In the event of a heat warning or extreme heat emergency, the provincial government and local authorities will take appropriate actions based on their individual heat plans and processes. A heat plan should identify cool zones inside and outside of homes (such as community centres and libraries), ways to cool down (such as taking cool baths or showers and drinking plenty of water), and identify vulnerable family members and neighbours who are susceptible to heat and who should be checked on. The guide is available in English, French, Punjabi, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese. As a strong ridge of high pressure pushes into B.C., Environment and Climate Change Canada has released heat warnings for multiple areas starting Monday, July 25, 2022. While temperatures will rise, B.C. is not anticipating an extreme heat emergency comparable to summer 2021. People are encouraged to monitor themselves for symptoms and should create a heat plan to keep safe.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures along the coast could reach up to 35 C inland and the upper 20s near the water. The province said on Monday local authorities and First Nations are implementing their heat response plans including opening cooling centres, and it asks people to check with their municipality, regional district or First Nation for the most-up-to-date information. The province announced a heat alert system in June to set temperature ranges and government responses during heat warnings or emergencies, after the B.C. Coroners Service said more than 600 people died during the extreme heat wave last summer. "One of the things that were identified last year is that people didn't want to leave their pets," Houston told CBC's The Early Edition. "It'll be a lot easier for people to come in and take advantage of the cool air." "Environment Canada and local medical health officers expect an increase in health and safety risks from heat and are advising the public to take precautions." "A lot of us don't have air conditioning, particularly on the coast," Castellan said on CBC's On The Island. "Indoor temperatures are particularly difficult for certain population groups."

"It would have been really devastating to leave that job just because of paperwork," he said. The project has been referenced during debates in Parliament. However, after CBC publicized her case, Salimjan received a letter from the federal agency instructing her to submit a notarized statement describing the precariousness of her situation. Salimjan says she expected the IRCC to deliver the certificate of identity within 20 days of submitting her application, but she still had not received it after more than 20 inquiries to the agency. An ethnic Kazakh from Xinjiang and a Canadian permanent resident, she specified in her application that visiting the local Chinese consulate to renew her expired passport meant she would have to disclose her personal information to the Chinese authorities, who she feared might use those details to harass her and her parents who are living in China. But on Tuesday, Salimjan received a letter saying she could pick up her certificate of identity — a Canadian travel document that is an alternative to a passport for refugees, stateless people and permanent residents who cannot obtain one from their country of origin.
