Exactly a Year from Release, Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer ... (IGN)

Universal Pictures has unveiled the first poster for Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, exactly one year before the movie is scheduled to hit theaters.

Nolan's long-time collaborative streak with Warner Bros. came to an abrupt end shortly after he expressed anger towards the studio for launching their films day and date on HBO Max, which the director called "the worst streaming service." As such, Murphy's name appears on the poster alongside several other high-profile actors from the movie's star-studded cast, including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh. He is standing against an explosive backdrop, surrounded by a blaze of heavy smoke clouds.

I’m guessing it’s very much somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. Anyway, I’ll save a history of long-lead marketing for if we get a teaser trailer tonight. Ditto Dark Knight Rises (teaser with Harry Potter 8 in July, trailer with Sherlock Holmes 2 and Mission: Impossible 4 in December). I have mixed feelings about what did or didn’t happen two years ago in terms of Tenet’s theatrical release. We got that announcement teaser for The Dark Knight in July of 2007 with the opening night of The Simpsons and then mostly radio silence (online/viral mystery marketing notwithstanding) until the trailer and IMAX prologue in December of 2007, just seven months from the film’s July 18, 2008 release. We don't just owe it to the 150,000 workers of this great American industry to include them in those we help, we owe it to ourselves. Tenet was notably one of the only blockbuster films to arrive in theaters during the summer of 2020. Aside from the featured players, Oppenheimer boasts one of the most star-studded ensembles in recent memory. Top billed stars beyond Murphy include Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place), Matt Damon (The Last Duel), Robert Downey Jr. (Avengers: Endgame), and Florence Pugh (Black Widow). While the film isn't due for another year, the first Oppenheimer trailer is playing in front of Nope this weekend. Oppenheimer is a biographical tale that follows the titular character's involvement in the Manhattan Project and the ultimate creation of the atomic bomb. "In 2021, they've got some of the top filmmakers in the world, they've got some of the biggest stars in the world who worked for years in some cases on these projects very close to their hearts that are meant to be big-screen experiences.

It’s unclear if Universal will debut this “Oppenheimer” teaser online. The official first trailer for “Oppenheimer” is debuting exclusively in movie theaters.

Oppenheimer receives its first poster, teasing the newest film from legendary director Christopher Nolan and actor Cillian Murphy.

The 77th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima is on August 5th. Based on this poster, which shows the brilliant scientist engulfed in the destructive force of his own creation, and the tagline that focuses on the effects of his creation, it seems likely that the film’s plot will focus on Oppenheimer’s regret over the role he played in creating the atomic bomb. The poster was Tweeted by the official Oppenheimer account.

First Oppenheimer Teaser Shown Ahead of Nope - IGN (IGN)

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer just got its first teaser trailer, debuting exclusively in theaters ahead of Jordan Peele's new sci-fi horror flick, Nope.

As the film’s title appears on screen, Lewis Strauss (Robert Downey Jr.) can be heard saying: “The man who moved the Earth” which is presumably a reference to Oppenheimer himself. Code name Trinity, this test was of an implosion-design nuclear device, nicknamed “The Gadget”… the same design as the Fat Man that was eventually detonated over Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) is then seen on screen, briefly, as footage of fire and smoke are intercut between black and white footage of the man himself.
