Currently unable to enter the United States -- and with his participation in the Australian Open also in doubt due to laws that could ban him from entering the country for a further three years -- Djokovic's next appearance at a grand slam could be the 2023 French Open. Djokovic's refusal to take the Covid-19 vaccine has hindered his participation in tournaments around the world, with the Serb unable to defend his Australian Open title in January after being deported following a period in detention But Williams, who turned 40 last September, is refusing to give up on her pursuit of a record-equaling 24th grand slam title, five years after she claimed her last at the Australian Open. She is currently entered in tournaments that will take place later this summer in Toronto and Cincinnati.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC may not be able to return to the 2023 Australian Open after being deported earlier this year.

And it appears he will have a much harder time than Voracova in having his ability to travel to Australia reinstated, which could leave him out of the tournament for a second successive year. But it was cancelled for a second and final time days later on “good order grounds” by the Immigration Minster. Novak Djokovic has taken a huge hit to his chances of returning to the Australian Open in January after a tribunal noted that he showed a “disregard” for Covid regulations when reinstating another tennis player’s visa.

U.S. Open confirms Novak Djokovic can't play unless he's ... (NBC News)

The U.S. Open has confirmed that Novak Djokovic will not be able to play in the tournament next month unless he is fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

As a result, Djokovic, who has repeatedly expressed that he will not take the vaccine, would not be allowed entry into the country. "The U.S. Open does not have a vaccination mandate in place for players, but it will respect the U.S. government’s position regarding travel into the country for unvaccinated non-U.S. citizens," it said. In a statement released Wednesday, the U.S. Open said that while it does not have its own vaccination mandate in place for players, it will respect the U.S. government' s position regarding travel into the country for unvaccinated non-U.S. citizens. Djokovic has previously said he was willing to sacrifice competing in tournaments in order to remain unvaccinated against Covid-19. The 35-year-old tennis star had been named on the entry list for the year's final grand slam on Wednesday, but as the U.S. Open noted, that is routine and does not mean he is guaranteed to be allowed to play. The U.S. Open has confirmed that Novak Djokovic will not be able to play in the tournament next month unless he is fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Djokovic, who was also barred from playing in the Australian Open due to his vaccination status, had said after his victory in London that he was hopeful "for some good news from U.S.A.," according to British newspaper The Guardian. The U.S. requires non-citizens to be fully vaccinated against Covid in order to entry the country.

Nadal, whose tally stands at 22, could race away even further in New York. Novak Djokovic Out of U.S. Open For Refusing to Get COVID-19 ... (PEOPLE.com)

The U.S. Open has confirmed that Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic will not be allowed to compete due to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

In January, Djokovic was deported from Australia because of his vaccine status and could not play in the Australian Open, the year's first Grand Slam tournament. Wimbledon did not make COVID-19 vaccination mandatory in order to participate in this year's tournament, enabling Djokovic to enter and eventually win. After the match, the champion told reporters it was not clear when he will next play a major tournament, according to ESPN. But he remains unable to play in the 2023 Australian Open since he is not eligible for a visa in the country, leaving the tennis star out of the next two major tournaments. "I don't have much answers there." Typically, the organizers said, eligible players are automatically seeded into the tournament, but they were unable to include Djokovic. If that is possibility, I don't know what [an] exemption would be about." This would not be the first time Djokovic is unable to compete due to his refusal to get a COVID-19 vaccine. I don't think exemption is realistically possible. "I don't know. The U.S. Open has confirmed that Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic will not be allowed to compete due to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, non-U.S. citizens who are not immigrants traveling to the country by air are required to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 before flying from a foreign country to the U.S. Given that Djokovic, 35, has repeatedly expressed that he will not take the vaccine, he would not be allowed in the country.

The Wimbledon 2022 winner is unlikely to feature at the fourth Grand Slam of the year.

It is currently unknown whether the 2021 men’s champion Daniil Medvedev will be able to defend his title due to the US stance over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. His loss to Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final prevented the Serbian from becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win a calendar-year Grand Slam (winning all four Grand Slams in one year) However, his bid to record the same number of Grand Slams as close rival Rafael Nadal may have to wait as the Serbian world number one is likely to be forced to sit out of the upcoming US Open.

"Let the guy come in and play in the U.S. I mean come on. Fortunately, political pressure—the one thing D.C. seems to pay attention to—is beginning to mount. "These politicians are getting in the way too much," tennis legend and TV commentator John McEnroe recently said. Vaccination has become one of the most partisan and politicized issues in the world today. First, it's noteworthy that Djokovic had COVID-19 in December. Many sporting organizations—including the NCAA—recognize prior infection as a form of immunization, and rightly so. But he was allowed to play in Wimbledon because the United Kingdom had no travel restrictions pertaining to coronavirus vaccination, and organizers of the All England Club announced in April that vaccination would not be mandatory. Some players say this is unfair to Djokovic and bad for the game. "In my opinion, it is right to let him play in America." Their level of protection was higher than that of people who had received two Pfizer shots and a booster. And just last week, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced he was lifting vaccine requirements for college students and university employees. Weeks after its law forcing citizens to get vaccinated (or pay fines) went into effect, Austria suspended the order. Although the Serbian star looked perfectly healthy in his four-set victory over Australian Nick Kyrgios in England, current COVID-19 protocols are likely to prevent Djokovic from playing.
