Matthew Tkachuk échangé cette semaine? - TVA Sports (TVA Sports)

3 Trades New Jersey Devils Could Offer For Matthew Tkachuk (Pucks and Pitchforks)

The rumor mill was swirling on Tuesday about the possibility that Matthew Tkachuk could be moved. What would the Calgary Flames need from the New Jersey ...

The Flames don’t want a terribly long rebuild, so getting this kind of player for Tkachuk would be hard to compete with. The Flames could easily use Bratt as a centerpiece to a rebuild. It seems like it might be something that could move the needle. This is buying at the highest point for a player who’s also going to cost an arm and a leg. The Devils haven’t really pulled the trigger on a trade like this in years. This was before the Johnny Gaudreau sweepstakes ended with him going to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and it appears things might be changing.

NHL Rumors: Devils, Flames, Jets, Canadiens (The Hockey Writers)

NHL rumors: Gaudreau almost signed with Devils, Flames could lose Tkachuk, Dubois working on trade to Montreal.

Jim is a daily must for readers who want to be “in the know.” Jimmy Murphy of Montreal Hockey Now wonders if the next step by Dubois is to stage a contract holdout. Winter said, “I don’t want to get into the negotiations — I share Brad (Treliving’s) view that it’s never really healthy for the process — but I think ultimately to admit that Andrew has submitted a proposal on a multi-year deal tells you he’s quite interested in staying here despite the uncertainty that surrounds Matthew Tkachuk.” He writes, “In all likelihood, Tkachuk has indicated to the Flames what many have feared for years — that he isn’t interested in extending his stay in Calgary.” He adds, that a trade is likely something that could come in short order if the two sides don’t immediately work out a long-term extension. Pat Steinberg of The Fan960 writes, “The more you dive into Calgary’s decision to take Matthew Tkachuk to arbitration, it’s clear this is a move to buy time. The Flames don’t want another team coming in and trying to scoop the player.

Gaming out the various scenarios in the Matthew Tkachuk arbitration ... (Flames Nation)

If you were nervous about the Calgary Flames' ability to sign Matthew Tkachuk to a long-term deal after losing Johnny Gaudreau to free agency, Monday's news ...

If not, it’s hard to imagine that Tkachuk will be a Flame for very much longer. If certainly feels, at this juncture, that the simplest move for the Tkachuk camp could be waiting for an arbitration award. But if that happens, the most prudent move for the Flames may just be a trade – either before the season or early in the season. This is my speculation, but for a team to utilize a mechanism that teams to seldom use in this situation is quite significant and probably not a good sign. (Offer sheet compensation levels are based on total compensation divided by five if the deal involved is five years or longer.) If you’re the paranoid type who thinks Tkachuk wants out of town pronto, accepting his qualifying offer was perhaps the most expedient way.

If Matthew Tkachuk Is Available, Toronto Maple Leafs Must Go All-In (Editor In Leaf)

The Toronto Maple Leafs need to trade for Matthew Tkachuk this offseason in exchange for William Nylander, who fans have grown tired of.

They need a big body in the top-six who can score and hit and bring a different element during playoff-time. The Toronto Maple Leafs have long been missing a power-forward from their otherwise powerful lineup. Although it was a long time ago in junior, Tkachuk and Marner have a history together of putting up points and winning.

The Flames cannot lose a star for nothing two summers in a row. But it is crucial for the Flames to know what he's thinking. He's going to get his money whether he stays in Calgary or goes elsewhere. Earlier this week, the Flames filed for arbitration to resolve their contract. Several years ago, when UFA Zach Parise left the New Jersey Devils to sign in Minnesota, he dreaded telling GM Lou Lamoriello. But Lou simply wished him well and said he knows that sometimes players just want to go home. It came down to his preference to play in Columbus over Calgary.

Notes on Matthew Tkachuk, Conor Geekie, Vitali Kravtsov, and Ilya Mikheyev.

The Flames have had every opportunity to extend Tkachuk on a long-term extension, and yet have failed to secure his signature on a deal to this point, indicating that Tkachuk’s heart may not be in Calgary long-term, just like Gaudreau. As a result, the Flames might be motivated to move Tkachuk now in order to avoid a situation where the team allows 100-point wingers to leave in free agency in two consecutive offseasons. In what has so far shaped up to be a nightmarish offseason for the Calgary Flames, there could be another high-profile departure yet to come. Eric Francis of Sportsnet believes that the Flames and Tkachuk are “parting ways,” and that the club elected to pursue arbitration in order to “buy more time” to find an appropriate exit plan.

Buffalo Sabres: What would a trade for Tkachuk look like? (Sabre Noise)

Last month, I wrote up on some trade scenarios regarding the Buffalo Sabres and the Chicago Blackhawks. Now, it's time to shift gears.

But, if Tkachuk’s situation goes to an arbitrator, it also means that a trade partner could not work out a long-term extension with the winger until January 2023. And while I don’t believe Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams will make a move here, he does have the capital to make one if he goes in that direction. This would have spelled doomsday for the Flames, as they already lost Johnny Gaudreau in free agency to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Could New Jersey Devils Realistically Acquire Matthew Tkachuk? (Pucks and Pitchforks)

With rumors swirling around Calgary Flames superstar Matthew Tkachuk, could the New Jersey Devils be in play to acquire the former 100-point player?

The Flames get back an elite prospect in Alex Holtz, who could in theory replace Tkachuk at 1st line LW. And finally, they get back a B-Tier prospect in Shakir Mukhamadullin. It could be a fair deal for both sides, but it also could be an offer that Calgary laughs at. This is a 100-point player who provides a rare combination of skill and speed. It truly depends on Tkachuk’s willingness to stay in Jersey. And with a dwindling cap reserve, the cost of his extension has to be in the back of Fitzgerald’s mind as well. The trade is also hard to discern from the Devils’ perspective. GM Tom Fitzgerald is also a cousin of Tkachuk, so their family ties could also be a big factor. They may decide that it is more valuable to keep Tkachuk for one more playoff run.

Flames Filing for Arbitration with Tkachuk is a Very Bad Sign (The Hockey Writers)

On Sunday, the NHL Players Association announced the list of players who have filed for salary arbitration, including three Calgary Flames: Andrew ...

While it remains likely that Treliving will look to negotiate a new long-term deal with Tkachuk over the next week, I expect he will be moved. There have been questions (for a few years) about whether he wanted to remain with the Flames long-term, and it appears those questions have been justified. What this means is that general manager Brad Treliving is likely doing everything he can to find the best available trade offer for his star forward, and will try and move him before a deal is resolved by an arbitrator. Technically, Treliving could send him anywhere he wants, but Tkachuk could let any interested team know whether or not he would be willing to negotiate a long-term deal with them. This would keep him with the Flames for the 2022-23 season before he became a free agent, similar to Johnny Gaudreau. This would have been a major disaster for the Flames. They simply cannot afford to lose two superstar talents while gaining nothing in return.

Maple Leafs Face Long Odds to Acquire Matthew Tkachuk (The Hockey Writers)

There is belief that Calgary Flames' Matthew Tkachuk will be traded soon. While the Maple Leafs have the means, see why this isn't likely.

Here’s where the Maple Leafs would look to sweeten the pot. Tkachuk could be in the same situation where he has a destination in mind. There’s still nothing wrong with throwing your hat in the ring to see what transpires. But it would take much more than this for the Flames to even think about it. Our Kevin Armstrong wrote last July that the Maple Leafs should jump into the Tkachuk rumor to see about potential interest. If it’s in the states, it doesn’t matter what the Maple Leafs do. It would also take them moving some key current and futures pieces to make a trade a reality. He would bring a level of physicality that would be hard to stop. The Maple Leafs would be prudent to at least explore the opportunity. Adding him to someone’s top-six could be the thing that gets teams over the top on their quest for the Stanley Cup. There would be instant chemistry. They cannot allow what happened with them with Gaudreau. They must maximize a return in any potential trade.

Roster players that could fit for the Flames include Josh Norris and Drake Batherson. On the prospect front, the Sens have a lot of good ones. What kind of package would you like the Flames to get for Tkachuk? Let us know in the comments! Brady Tkachuk is a star in Ottawa, and the Senators have over $10 million in cap space, so they could fit in Matthew, too. In terms of roster players, the Flames would probably have their eyes on the likes of Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas or Colton Parayko. The challenge is that none of them would put a big enough dent in Tkachuk’s anticipated cap hit (probably north of $9.5 million) to balance the books. We’ll try to focus on clubs that Tkachuk would reasonably sign with for a long-term deal. Players like him don’t get traded often, nor do they potentially get traded when the acquiring team can negotiate a contract of their chosen length and price tag.

He’s 23 and coming off a nearly point-per-game season with great underlying numbers — a solid bet to produce in the present and future — and isn’t on track to reach unrestricted free agency until 2024, even though Fitzgerald likely has some of this summer’s cap space earmarked for a possible long-term deal. There’s no shortage of options there for Calgary. The issue — and it’s a big one — is whether Tkachuk would have any interest in signing a long-term deal with Detroit. Age-wise, he fits, especially given the moves GM Steve Yzerman just made. They’ve also made the playoffs eight years in a row — that’s good, for obvious reasons, and also speaks to the front office’s desire and/or need to be relevant on a yearly basis. Including him in a Tkachuk deal would get Nashville within shouting distance and work for the Flames – Sissons has years of team control on top of his solid production. Using Kyrou as the primary chip for Tkachuk could represent the Blues solving a problem they don’t yet have — but it’d also be a steep cost and wouldn’t solve the shorter-term issue of creating space for the new guy. He carries a $5.8 million hit for three more seasons and, if Calgary wants to avoid an immediate rebuild, is probably their best bet at minimizing the damage of losing Tkachuk (and Johnny Gaudreau). The biggest roadblock for the Blues is going to be salary cap space — even in the short term. Krug would make sense for the Blues to shed cap space; the fit for Calgary, though, could be an issue. For the last few years, the Tkachuk trade discussions have always started with St. Louis. It’s where he grew up; his dad, Keith, starred for the Blues and now works for the team; his family still lives in the area. Because of Tkachuk’s power in this situation, Calgary would have to pick the best deal that he’s OK with. The Boston Bruins are still waiting on decisions from Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci and will need all of their available cap space to sign them – plus they still have to figure out David Pastrnak’s long-term future with the franchise. The thought is that he’s looking to land in a large, American market — if not with his hometown St. Louis, perhaps somewhere relatively nearby.

Matthew Tkachuk trade destinations: Ranking the four best NHL ... (Sporting News)

It seems inevitable that the Flames power forward is moved. But where will he go?

They still need to sign RFA Jesper Bratt, but he could potentially be going back the other way in the trade with the Flames and use the money they would have given him for Tkachuk's deal. The Sabres have been building to get to the point where they can afford to send off prospects in order to gain back legit NHL talent. Now seems like the perfect time to grab an immediate scoring forward like Tkachuk to help further the rebuild. They do have some RFAs next season to worry about in Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens, but the team has been built around players on entry-level deals and veterans on short-term cheap deals, so it shouldn't be an issue. However, that would mean the Islanders are left without a true No. 1 center to play with Tkachuk. I don't love the idea of needing to move Krug, but if you can get a decent defenseman back in either deal to help the left side, then that certainly helps. It's not surprising considering the 24-year forward has had plenty of time to re-sign with the team and has yet to sign the dotted line. With the price set that high, the Flames could and would get a significant package of draft picks back. Sure, they signed Ondrej Palat, but the 31-year-old does not put up the kind of numbers like Gaudreau or Tkachuk and is at least three years older than both. Vladimir Tarasenko's trade request remains intact, and if the Blues could find a suitor for him, that would take his $7.5 million cap hit off their books. Tkachuk is not going to take a one-year deal, which works in the Flames' favor, as it will avoid what happened with Gaudreau from repeating itself next season. Despite helping lead the Flames to a Pacific Division win, he could be heading out of Alberta.

Tkachuk does have some power over where he might land, given that teams likely won't want to pay as large of a trade price for him as a rental.

Any team looking to pull off a Matthew Tkachuk trade would need to put together an impressive trade package for the Flames.

One of those players would likely need to go the other way in a Tkachuk deal. The one snag with a Matthew Tkachuk trade to New York is the salary cap. While Tkachuk would cost a haul, he could bring the Blues back to being Stanley Cup contenders. The Devils have a wealth of picks and prospects could offer the Flames, and have over $9.5 million in cap space to sign him to a new contract. A player like Tkachuk would go a long way in helping the Devils compete in a stacked Metropolitan Division. The Flames won’t be so willing to trade their 24-year-old star, and his RFA status further complicates a deal.
