A tornado alert was briefly issued for Cypress County, a rural municipality that surrounds Medicine Hat, although it was no longer in effect by late Monday afternoon. Further calls reported damages to residents along Highway 523, Mounties said, adding road closures were in place throughout the county and the public was asked to avoid the area. It noted that several power lines were down across the region and emergency crews were responding to reports of people confined to their vehicles under live power lines.
