HBO has dropped a teaser for "The Idol," an upcoming series co-created by Sam Levinson and the Weeknd and starring Lily-Rose Depp.

Alongside Depp and Tesfaye, Troye Sivan, Suzanna Son and Steve Zissis were announced as series regulars on the show with Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga and Anne Heche in recurring roles. In April, Variety reported that Amy Seimetz had exited from her role as director on the project. The plot follows a self-help guru and cult leader who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.

If Levinson's resume is anything to go by, one look at Euphoria will give you a clear idea on the chaos and steamy scenes that are in store for his latest project. To which she replies with a smile, "Not really." "I just want to be a filmmaker," the singer added. And from the sneak peeks alone, it's pretty clear that Depp and Tesfaye will be playing the singer and club owner, respectively. In 2020, he opened up about his interest in writing for film, referring to a then-secretive screenplay that was in the works.

While the show is currently being hyped to the hilt, there’s still relatively little known about it so far. ‘The sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood’ is quite a bold claim for a brand new series to start throwing around, but given Levinson’s previous form, it’s probably justified.
