Murphy and Tate fought a competitive fight, but the damage on their faces would suggest otherwise.

Tate dropped to 19-9 and is 1-2 overall since returning from a five-year-long retirement. Murphy also appeared to break Tate's orbital bone as "Cupcake" dealt with bad swelling and a cut under her right eye. Lauren Murphy is far from finished with the UFC women's flyweight elite.

Results As They Happen, Winner Interviews And More From UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs Rodriguez Results, Live From UBS Arena In Belmont Park, New York.

Yair Rodriguez(14-3, 1 NC, fighting out of Chicago, Ill.) aims to secure his first shot at UFC gold with another showstopping performance. Former featherweight title challengerBrian Ortega (15-2, 1 NC, fighting out of Los Angeles, Calif.) returns to the Octagon for the first time in almost a year. The Pennsylvania-born, German-based middleweight finally got in deep on a takedown and dragged his fellow Dana White’s Contender Series grad to the deck late in the second, quickly moving to dominant positions and landing big shots. The 29-year-old moves to 7-2 in the UFC and 20-3 overall with the victory. Since returning to the UFC through a win on Dana White’s Contender Series two summers ago, “The Hanyak” has now gone 6-0-1, forcing his way into the rankings in the light heavyweight division and establishing himself as a dark horse veteran to track in the 205-pound weight class. As the Hawaiian swarmed, connecting with a big right hook, Lungiambula covered up, prompting referee Dan Miragliotta to step in and wave off the festivities. She also kept things standing throughout, out-muscling Tate in the clinch and mixing in a couple takedowns of her own. Now 8-0 in the UFC in his home state, Burgos picks up a second straight win, upping his record to 15-3 overall, while Jourdain falls to 4-4-1 in the UFC and 13-5-1 overall with the loss. In the third, Jourdain came out chasing down Burgos, unloading a storm of offence that put the ranked fighter on his heels. From there, “Danger” unleashed a storm of elbows that split the Chinese athlete open before locking in a triangle choke and putting his opponent to sleep. In the second, “The Tibetan Eagle” found his range and took it to Schnell, freezing him in place with a series of left hands and short, framed-off elbows that had referee Jacob Montalvo taking a close look. Following a close first round, Li came out a little more aggressive and active in the second, pressuring Salikhov, landing short shots when he could while looking for opportunities to uncork his right hand.

Those UFC Fight Night picks are only available at SportsLine. Ortega (15-2-1) was widely viewed as a future champion upon joining the UFC eight years ago, and he delivered on the potential by starting his UFC stint with a seven-fight unbeaten streak. In the co-main event, women's strawweight contenders take the spotlight when Amanda Lemos (-335) meets Michelle Waterson (+275). Before locking in any UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. The versatile 34-year-old Chinese fighter was climbing the rankings behind a stretch in which he went 8-2 but took a step back in his last fight with a first-round stoppage loss to rising star Khamzat Chimaev, who has since reached No. 3 in the rankings. You can only see who to pick at UFC Fight Night here. But a slew of injuries has led to numerous long breaks in between fights, and his mild-mannered disposition has contributed to somewhat limited recognition among MMA media and fans. Although his December 2018 loss to Holloway was lopsided, Ortega came close to unseating Volkanovski last September at UFC 266. Just last month at UFC 275, Gombas swept the board with his main-card picks and the five-fight sweep included telling SportsLine members to back Jake Matthews (+125) against Andre Fialho (-145) in a matchup of welterweight prospects. Caesars Sportsbook lists Ortega as a -160 favorite (risk $160 to win $100), while Rodriguez is a +140 underdog in the latest UFC Fight Night: Ortega vs. He started the MMA handicapping service MMA Knockout Bets in 2018 and has shown a profit every year since. Ortega says he still plans on wearing the belt before he retires, but to earn a third title shot he must get past the dangerous and third-ranked Rodriguez, who could secure his first title bid with a victory.

Jourdain stands up again, even with Burgos on his back, and he not as much moves out the back door as he does slide out the side, and he lowers Burgos down to the ground. Li lets go with a left hook and follows it with a destructive right that sends Salikhov collapsing down to the mat. Simon ducks a punch and shoots in for a takedown, and he lifts Shore off his feet and throws him to the ground. Murphy pushes out jabs as Tate does the same, and she reaches out with a right hand that Tate times for a takedown. Shore kicks on the inside, and he hurls a one-two to keep Shore on his toes. The former kickboxer reaches out with a few punches, and he connects with a kick on the knee that draws a reaction out of his man. Burns pulls his man down to the ground, and as he does, the Pennsylvanian spins around in the guard and nails Burns with several strikes. Stoltzfus wings a head kick that misses the mark, and Grant tries to intercept him with a leg kick and a left hook. Grant stuffs it and blocks a high kick on the way out, and he smacks Stoltzfus with a right hand over the top. Grant rushes away and catches a kick on the way out, and he chambers and looses a right hand while holding on to the leg. Ducote scores a right to the body and a left to the head, and Penne bull-rushes forward only to get pushed aside. Penne pushes off with a teep kick to the chest, and Ducote walks through it to smack Penne in the face with a left hand.

Brian Ortega Injury Gives Yair Rodriguez Anticlimactic Win at UFC ... (Sherdog.com)

Yair Rodriguez got an important victory in the UFC on ABC 3 headliner, but it wasn't necessarily the statement he wanted to make.

Tate continued to march forward until the final horn but was unable to impose her will in the clinch or at range. A measured opening stanza saw “The Leech” able to avoid Salikhov’s toolbox of spinning kicks, but the Dagestani did secure a takedown in the frame to gain a slight advantage. “The Leech” picked up the pace in Round 2, causing swelling under his foe’s eye with a stiff jab before slipping a punch and sending Salikhov (18-3, 5-2 UFC) stumbling backward with a massive right hand. Fortis MMAproduct rallied from the brink of defeat to submit Mudaerji in an action-packed flyweight showcase. In a matchup that was billed as a striker’s delight, Burgos (15-3, 8-3 UFC) set himself apart through his grappling. The time of the stoppage was the 4:38 mark of Round 2, allowing the Strikeforcechampion en route a unanimous decision triumph in a 125-pound feature. The former title challenger was at a loss to explain what had just transpired in the immediate aftermath. Jourdain (13-5-1, 4-4-1 UFC) has a modest two-bout winning streak halted in defeat. “T-City” landed a takedown late in the period, and that’s when Rodriguez attempted to frame an armbar from his back. Rodriguez found success landing straight punches and a variety of kicks during exchanges, while Ortega looked to pressure his adversary and close the distance. I guess I did but not the way I wanted.”

"We knew we were going to get in each other's ass, and I got there first," Jacoby said. "I think he got tired from beating on me, and I was able to capitalize," he said. Schnell pounced, landing several strikes and getting his man to the floor, where he landed a series of particularly brutal elbows that left his rival with a ghastly cut. But it wasn't enough to dissuade Jingliang, who was aggressive and active after a close first round. "I thought I had the first two rounds, but that body triangle killed my legs. He then immediately went to the ground in pain. B/R's combat sports team was in place as well to digest the daytime drama and put together a list of its winners and losers. And I know we would have." Ortega was unable to continue after suffering an apparent right shoulder injury during a non-submission tie-up on the mat. But it's part of the game." Clearly defeating the No. 2 fighter in the weight class would have elevated him into a title fight opportunity. "I think it was a very tight fight, and I already told him we can run it back any time," Rodriguez said.

UFC Long Island results and video: Yair Rodriguez gets injury TKO ... (Bloody Elbow)

On the UFC on ABC 3 main card, Yair Rodriguez defeated Brian Ortega due to an injury TKO, and Amanda Lemos stopped Michelle Waterson-Gomez by submission.

Murphy blasted a takedown, and scored a couple of punches before Tate scrambled up to her feet. Neither fighter was willing to concede the takedown, so the match resumed on the feet. With about a minute to go, Michelle realized a takedown in the center of the cage, but was only able to land one punch before getting swept as the round ended. Back in open space, there was a lot of measuring and moving around going on, coupled with a lot of missing going on. Tate started to pump her jab to back off the aggression, and Murphy then shot in for a takedown. It was starting to look bad for Burgos, but he managed to clinch up on the back to stop the onslaught. Michelle honorably admitted to tapping out and the match was over. It was a mother right hand that dropped Muslim, and some ground and pound sealed the deal. The UFC’s #9 rated 125-pounder, Matt Schnell, rallied through allllll the adversity to put the #12 rated, Sumudaerji, to sleep with a triangle in the second round. The referee was on the wrong side to see the tap, but good sportsmanship prevailed as Lemos unlocked the hold, and Waterson-Gomez admitted defeat. The opening act was a bit pedestrian, but Li hurt Salikhov with a massive right in the second, and refused to let him off the hook. The finish came as Waterson-Gomez shot in for a single leg and Lemos defended it, and then jumped right onto a guillotine.

Oliveira vs. Makhachev - Key questions and analysis on who will ... (ESPN)

Is this the best lightweight title fight the UFC could have made? Will Charles Oliveira reclaim his UFC lightweight title against Islam Makhachev? Troy Taormina ...

We all know Oliveira as a submission machine, but what makes him so dominant of late is his improvement in striking. On the mat, he's shown dominant wrestling, and he's already faced and stifled decorated grapplers such as Arman Tsarukyan and Nik Lentz. How bettable Makhachev is will depend on prices closer to fight time, but from a first look by the numbers, he's already a justifiable favorite. In his previous three bouts, Oliveira has been dropped in the first round but rallied to get a KO or submission finish to win. Still, it would be definitive evidence that his Dagestani countryman, training partner and biggest fan, former champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, has been correct all along in insisting that Makhachev is the future of the 155-pound division. Oliveira got where he is -- tied with Israel Adesanya for No. 3 in the ESPN pound-for-pound Top 10 -- by finishing Chandler, Poirier and Gaethje in succession. A victory over the other would be a magnificent accomplishment for either man. I have Volkanovski as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world right now, and I have Oliveira at No. 4. Marc Raimondi: Take note of a few sequences in Oliveira's fight with Gaethje at UFC 274 in May. Gaethje landed shots and Oliveira dropped to the canvas. It would be dangerous, but it is his bread and butter. Oliveira has recently rounded into a dangerous Muay Thai striker with power in his hands and underrated kicks and knees. Was Oliveira hurt, or was he trying to bait Gaethje into going down to the ground with him, to Oliveira's domain? Oliveira has cleared out the other top names in the division -- Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler. Makhachev was the obvious next contender.
