Jourdain with a flurry and Burgos lands a low kick. Burgos with a body triangle now. Burgos ducks under a punch and lands a takedown. Shane Burgos with a low kick. Another couple of lefts from Jourdain. Burgos with a low kick but eats another 1-2. Burgos around the face with a neck crank. Shane Burgos with a low kick but eats a left hook. Jourdain lands a right. A high kick and a left hand from Jourdain. He follows that up with a low kick and another left. A 1-2 from ‘Air’. A big low kick from Burgos. He clinches up to put Jourdain on the cage. Jourdain trips him and scores with a 1-2. A low kick from Burgos. Jourdain returns it.

Shane Burgos survived a late comeback attempt from Charles Jourdain to secure a majority decision win at UFC Long Island.

Burgos continued to attack while also maintaining his dominant position before looking for a neck crank and then another rear-naked choke attempt. Jourdain stayed patient while trying to shake Burgos off his back, but he just couldn’t break free of his grip. The difference in the fight was Burgos’ grappling as he repeatedly took Jourdain to the canvas and threatened him with submissions, which also ate a lot of time off the clock.

Burgos reeled back in the last minute as Jourdain surged at him, throwing a flying knee. The fun and ferocious contest headed to the judges’ scorecards. This frustrated Burgos enough that he gave up on trying to get over the chin and attempted a crank against Jourdain’s jaw. Jourdain followed those up with hard strikes to the head. He stuffed it and landed some hard knees to the body. Burgos took the center early on in the first round of the fight, with Jourdain content to circle away and attempt a high kick. After ducking under a punch Burgos dragged Jourdain down to the mat and jumped on his back, again. Jourdain defended smartly, though, doing enough to protect against both the strikes and submission. Burgos again took the center and tried walking down Jourdain. Jourdain circled away from Burgos and tried darting in with punches, but Burgos’ head movement was equal to them. Burgos then locked in a deep rear naked choke, forcing Jourdain to slump back to the mat. Burgos tried to trap Jourdain against the fence and eventually succeeded, locking up a clinch that lead to a takedown. It was ultimately given to Burgos via majority decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28). Burgos out-foxed Jourdain early on, stalking him across the cage, taking him down and putting him in serious threat of being choked out.

Burgos took the back standing again, dragged Jourdain down, and mounted the back while Jourdain was on his way up. Jourdain put Burgos against the cage, ducking, moving, and firing punches in bursts. This time, Burgos stayed on the back with Jourdain along the fence, sapping the Canadian’s energy. Controlling the wrists, Jourdain did some good work in the clinch, but Burgos reversed and broke free. Jourdain went to the body with a kick, then clinched up again, working the body with punches. Burgos dragged him down, locking on a body triangle and sinking in a rear-naked choke.
