The five-time Selke Trophy winner would be near the top of this list based on his talent and leadership. He had a career-best 21 goals and 53 points this past season, plus 18 points in 16 games as the Rangers reached the Eastern Conference final. He was slowed by a pelvic injury in the playoffs. Kuemper had a career-best 37 wins this season and won the Stanley Cup, though he was hurt for part of Colorado's run. But he has only 91 games of NHL experience. The defenseman plays a physical shutdown style. He finished fourth in Hart Trophy voting and scored in overtime of Game 7 of the first round. He wasn't as strong this season. Then he helped Colorado win a Stanley Cup. Included in his run: a hat trick after he had received social-media threats over his inadvertent collision with Blues goalie Jordan Binnington, and an overtime goal in Game 4 of the Final in his first game back from thumb surgery. The longtime Flyers captain scored 23 points in 18 regular-season games after his trade and helped Florida reach the second round for the first time since 1996. He's due a big raise from his $1.8 million last season. The Maple Leafs acquired Matt Murray, so Campbell will move on.
Pittsburgh Penguins Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, Nashville Predators winger Filip Forsberg and Edmonton Oilers winger Evander Kane recently re-signed long- ...
He was the subject of well-documented investigations and a 21-game suspension last year before joining the Oilers. He'll be in the mid-30s in the latter half of the deal, which is when a scorer's production declines. Evander Kane seemed headed to free agency after TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported the Edmonton Oilers granted his agent permission to speak with other clubs. Forsberg has spent his entire nine-season NHL career with the Predators. In that time, he tallied 21-or-more goals and 48-plus points seven times. This was an expensive signing for the Predators. However, it's one general manager David Poile felt had to be made or risk losing his best sniper at a time when he's attempting to retool this club back into Stanley Cup contenders. Nevertheless, the $6.1 million cap hit and the 10-team no-trade clause during those years could become a salary-cap headache. Letang's conditioning and consistency suggest he should still provide the Penguins with perhaps three more solid seasons as a puck-moving blueliner. A future Hall of Famer, Malkin helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 2009, 2016 and 2017. The bad news is they've made a long-term investment in a defenseman who will be 41 when this contract expires. He's spent the entirety of his 16 NHL seasons with the Penguins, collecting 42-or-more points nine times. The cap hit on Malkin's deal is similar to that of teammate Kris Letang's recently signed contract but for two fewer years. It's a four-year, $24.4 million deal with an annual cap hit of $6.1 million.

Patrice Bergeron, UFA The Predators are already lacking in top-six skaters and losing their best goal scorer would've hurt them over more. However, there are still some elite players that have yet to sign a new deal. This year's class is a bit on the weaker side and a lot of the big names are already off the table. It's time to put some ink to paper.
The NHL offseason is in full swing with the draft in the books. Now teams across the league will shift their focus toward free agency, which gets underway ...
However, the Blue Jackets clearly want to keep Laine as a cornerstone of the franchise after acquiring him from the Jets just two seasons ago. This one is more about the moves that don't need to be made. The Blue Jackets have missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons as they try to retool their roster. The Flyers have also been linked to Gaudreau, who is originally from the southern New Jersey suburbs outside of Philadelphia. This is a team that is coming off a season in which it had the second-fewest wins in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers need to resist the temptation of backing up the Brinks truck for Gaudreau and build around young players like Owen Tippett, Joel Farabee, Cutter Gauthier and Carter Hart. A few mid-level signings to shore up the center position in the form of Dylan or Ryan Strome wouldn't be a bad idea, but lofty contracts are not what this team needs right now. It's safe to say that the Bruins need to address the middle of the ice and bringing back at least one, if not both, Bergeron and Krejci would be huge. The Oilers took the next step and advanced all the way to the Western Conference Final. However, it was Mike Smith's performance in net that ultimately led to Edmonton's demise. There's a ton of pressure on the Flames after winning the Pacific Division and having a strong season that resulted in them winning a playoff series. Some clever maneuvering will be required in order to add talent to the forward group. If the Bruins are able to add the two veteran centers to the 2022-23 roster, it would go a long way toward stabilizing the position. Their future depends on this deal getting done and keeping him in a Flames uniform for potentially the remainder of his career. There won't be a ton of star power up for grabs after the Nashville Predators re-signed star winger Filip Forsberg to a massive eight-year contract. After a career-best 115-point season, Gaudreau's value will never be higher and his importance to the Flames' franchise can't be measured.
The offseason is under way and with the market opening July 13 there will be plenty of action this summer. Some teams have already been busy getting their 2022- ...
