Giroux likely waits to see what the market is and could choose one of the teams listed above. The Rangers might get involved because they could use another piece like Giroux due to the fact they are close to winning it all and that kind of piece could get them there. During the 2021/22 season, Giroux played a total of 75 games between the Flyers and the Panthers, combining 21 goals and 44 assists for 65 points.

Claude Giroux expected to sign with Ottawa Senators - Daily Faceoff (Daily Faceoff)

The Ottawa Senators are currently the front-runners for signing forward Claude Giroux as free agency begins.

If Giroux does sign with the Senators, he’ll join what has been a significant overhaul of the team. He was dealt at the deadline to the Florida Panthers, where he joined the team’s historic regular season, as well as their first series victory since 1996, before they were swept in the second round by the Tampa Bay Lightning. That’s something the Senators can provide, with both their excessive cap space, and only having a few long term commitments to work around at the moment.

Senators Sign Claude Giroux to Three-Year Deal (The Hockey Writers)

Pierre Dorion's busy summer continues and Claude Giroux is coming home after signing a new three-year deal with the Senators in free agency.

She has written articles for multiple tennis websites and interviewed the likes of Roger Federer and Serena Williams. While her career in sports started in tennis, her first love has always been hockey. With the Panthers, the 34-year-old put up 23 points in 18 regular season games to help them win the President’s Trophy and put themselves in a position to make a deep playoff run. She is also THW’s Social Media & Marketing Manager as well as co-host of Chicks & Sticks, a weekly show produced by THW. In 2006, she spearheaded the social media initiatives for Tennis Canada and Rogers Cup and was the primary person responsible for their upkeep for over 10 years. Giroux will be a great fit with the Senators and their talented young core. He brings over 1,000 games of NHL experience to the table and 923 points during that span. Giroux is coming off an 8-year deal with an $8.275 AAV. He signed the contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, the team he spent the first 15 years of his prolific career with.

Star forward Claude Giroux, 34, traded from Philadelphia to Florida last season, signed a three-year free-agent deal with the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

But at the same time, I think we learned a lot from the Washington series and also the Tampa series. But after dispatching the Washington Capitals in six games in Round 1, the Panthers ran into a wall in the form of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who swept the No. 1 seed right out of the postseason in Round 2. And with a solid, full season in 2022-23, on the right team, he should have an opportunity to top 1,000 points for his career (923), and maybe secure the championship that has eluded him.

"I'm grateful for the tremendous amount of support from family, friends, teammates and others who have helped me stay strong through these difficult times." "We've still got more things to do," Holland said of Edmonton's off-season. Later in the day, the Senators reportedly traded forward Connor Brown to the Capitals in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick. The winger with a boatload of off-ice baggage said the opportunity the organization offered him in January after the Sharks terminated the remainder of his contract for violating COVID-19 protocols played a big part in his decision. The native of Port Huron, Mich., posted a 31-9-6 record with a .914 save percentage and 2.64 goals-against average with Toronto before losing in seven games to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Detroit Red Wings inked forward and Michigan native Andrew Copp to a five-year, $28.125-million deal, defenceman Ben Chiarot signed on for four years at a total of $19 million, and winger David Perron got $9.5 million over two seasons. Later in the day, the Senators traded forward Connor Brown to the Capitals in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick. The 34-year-old originally from Hearst, Ont., moved to the nation's capital with his family as a teen and starred for the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on the other side of the Ottawa River for three seasons. The Washington Capitals got in on the goaltending action by signing Darcy Kuemper, who's coming off a Stanley Cup victory with the Colorado Avalanche, to a five-year, $26.5-million contract. The Oilers, meanwhile, re-signed defenceman Brett Kulak on a four-year, $11-million contract after acquiring him from the Montreal Canadiens at the trade deadline and confirmed the return of forward Evander Kane. "To my teammates in Toronto, thank you for everything," Campbell wrote on Instagram. "Words don't justify how special the past couple of years mean to me." The Maple Leafs, meanwhile, continued to retool the position in Toronto after allowing Campbell to walk and trading Petr Mrazek last week, inking Ilya Samsonov for one year at $1.8 million in a deal that will see him work alongside newly acquired Matt Murray.

Ottawa Levels Up With Claude Giroux Signing (The Hockey News)

The Senators have been stockpiling great young forwards for a few years; now they bring in a veteran to pull the top six - and the team - together.

On top of where he plays, perhaps one of the most important skills that Giroux adds to Ottawa is leadership. Now the question is one of expectations. True, he has usually been a center in his career, but he also lined up on the wing with Sean Couturier in Philadelphia and a couple different pivots in Florida. Hypothetically, the Sens could also put him on the wing with either Norris or Pinto if they wanted to go that route.

Dorion said on Ottawa radio that he thought the team needed a slight “upgrade” in goal. He was the one player a lot of the contending teams were after (at the deadline). To add a player of this calibre to the lineup, when we feel we’ve already improved, was just something that excites us as an organization. The two will compete in camp for the top job. “It was always part of the plan,” Dorion said. Whether it’s Alex, Cam Talbot or Claude, they’re impactful players . . . so for us to be able to do this was always part of the plan.” “Everywhere I’ve been going in the last two months, everyone’s asking me – are you signing Claude? – I can’t go to the grocery store, I can’t go to the beer store, I can’t go to the liquor store. He told the late Senators owner Eugene Melnyk four years ago that he would love to sign Giroux when his contract ended in Philly and he became a free agent. According to Dorion, the team’s board of directors, headed by chair Sheldon Plener, signed off on Giroux and asked Dorion good questions about his roster intentions and spending. Giroux, a longtime Philadelphia Flyers captain and former Gatineau Olympiques star in the QMJHL, can play centre or right wing. “With the pieces that Pierre was able to add, and all of those young players had great years last year and they’re only going to get better,” Giroux said, as son, Gavin, fidgeted beside him. Giroux was the icing on the cake, a player that fans in Ottawa and Gatineau once hardly dared dream could sign with the home team. The Senators have certainly come up in the world.
