With free agency starting today, the Red Wings will be heading into it with $31,000,000 in cap space which is more than enough to make something happen in free agency. That’s at the point that you are grateful to be Red Wings fans. That could be the reason they are able to land one of the big names in free agency.

Who should the Calgary Flames look to acquire now that Johnny ... (The Win Column)

So it actually happened. The day the Calgary Flames and their fans have been fearing for years has finally arrived and Johnny Gaudreau has chosen to h.

This a bit more out of left field, but due to the cap problems in Toronto, Ilya Mikheyev is someone that could be an interesting UFA acquisition. He’s coming off a 49 point season (18 goals, 31 assists), and is expected to cost around $5 million AAV, which would give the Flames some space to sign another player around this same level instead of just getting either Kadri or Burakovsky. Clearly, it isn’t close to Gaudreau’s 115, but the plus side is that he would only cost the Flames a fraction of what Gaudreau originally would have cost. Another player from Colorado for the Flames to consider is Andrew Burakovsky. He’s likely to be cheaper than his teammate, but he still would provide a lot of value. Kadri also would also help to address the team’s need for a true centre. So while he doesn’t quite fill the shoes that Gaudreau is leaving, Kadri is a strong option.

"I want to win, and I believe after signing this deal, we will be able to add the right pieces along with myself to accomplish that goal: a championship." Malkin has spent his entire 16-year career with the Penguins. Only Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby have played more seasons in Pittsburgh with 17 to their credit. The Flyers would need to clear significant cap space in order to make a deal with Gaudreau work. In a surprising turn of events, Evgeni Malkin is re-signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins after stating that he would test free agency. Copp spent the entirety of his first seven NHL seasons with the Winnipeg Jets, and he earned a reputation as a steady defensive forward. After spending the first six seasons of his NHL career with the Canadiens, Lehkonen has really found a great spot in Colorado and now he'll spend the next five seasons with the Avalanche. On Tuesday evening, Johnny Gaudreau informed the Calgary Flames that he plans to enter free agency and won't be re-signing with the team. The team traded Vitek Vanecek to the New Jersey Devils earlier in the offseason and Ilya Samsonov signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs once free agency opened. Kuemper is fresh off of a season in which he put together a 37-12-4 record to go along with a 2.54 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage. As a result of his incredible performance, Marchment got a four-year contract worth $18 million from the Dallas Stars. Marchment will have to play up in the lineup in Dallas, so it will be interesting to see whether he can continue to produce at a high level in an increased role. Giroux had previously spent the first 15 seasons of his NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers before the franchise traded him to the Florida Panthers prior to last season's trade deadline. Following the move to Florida, Giroux had three goals and 20 assists to cap off the 2021-22 campaign.

“This might be a year where it drags on a little bit longer.” There’s some money to be spent, and players are going to make a lot of money.” So will the Washington Capitals after GM Brian MacLellan “jumped into the fire” by trading Vitek Vanecek to the Devils and doubled down on remaking his goaltending by not tendering a qualifying offer to Ilya Samsonov. “Evgeni is a generational talent who will be remembered as one of the greatest players in NHL history,” GM Ron Hextall said. Kadri, who will be 32 by opening night, was one of the Avalanche’s best players on their Cup run with 15 points in 16 games sandwiched around a broken right thumb he played through in the final. “It is my strong belief that this was a family decision, and I respect that fully,” disappointed Flames general manager Brad Treliving said Tuesday night.

Although the Flames don’t want to make a “knee jerk reaction”, they maybe faced with a possibility of a complete rebuild in the near future. At the very least, Lamoriello knows he should at least try and if all else fails, drive up the price knowing he mostly will be in the Metropolitan Division for years to come. The Philadelphia Flyers would be Gaudreau’s sentimental choice because he grew up in South Jersey and as a Flyers fan.

Want to watch the next generation of hockey stars before they make the show? A deal didn’t come to fruition – for an extension or a trade – and Gaudreau went into the final year of his deal, 82 games away from unrestricted free agency, and went nuclear. The Flames will lose Gaudreau for nothing. In other words: the ability to manage the asset exists with Tkachuk in a way it didn’t really exist with Gaudreau. Want to sign him long-term? Heck, maybe Gaudreau went into the season with a bit of a chip on his shoulder after he and the Flames couldn’t work out an extension. If they didn’t think they could’ve done it, perhaps they should have traded him – a stance slightly complicated by Gaudreau’s five team trade list in the final year of his deal, but a valid one nonetheless.

We learned on Wednesday that 10 Royals players in total — half the team’s starting lineup and their two best pitchers — won’t be able to make the trip. Due to Canada's vaccine requirement, the 10 players will be placed on the restricted list and won't be paid or receive service time. A big part of my decision to stay in Edmonton was because of the opportunity given to me only 7 months ago but also the chance to be a part of a championship team. The Kansas City Royals will be without 10 unvaccinated players who won't travel to Toronto for a four-game series that begins Thursday, manager Mike Matheny told reporters. The "Carrier Classic" is not expected to be revived because of this game between the Bulldogs and the Spartans. Gonzaga is projected to open the NCAA men's college basketball season at No. 1, while Michigan State is projected to be lower than the top 10. The Golden Knights then signed the former Montreal captain to a four-year, $28M extension before he had even played a game for them, a contract that they are now sending along with 24-year-old defenseman Dylan Coghlan for no return. It is all the off-ice stuff that has limited his market, as seen by this new contract, which comes in well below what a player of his production level would have earned normally on the open market. I want to win, and I believe after signing this deal we will be able to add the right pieces along with myself to accomplish that goal, a championship. Sanders and Saban were seen together filming a new commercial for Aflac in a video posted on Sanders’ Instagram. The Jackson State coach is seen joking around with Saban, and even ends with the caption “2 GOATs, 1 duck, no beef.” Earlier in the offseason, Saban had accused Sanders and Jackson State of paying $1 million to sign top recruit Travis Hunter. Sanders was infuriated by the claim.
