Canada is a favorite for the Group B decider, but the odds are not be as lopsided as some we've seen in this CONCACAF W Championship tournament. Some respect is given to Costa Rica for its bright tournament performance thus far, but there is still only one winner expected in this match. Head coach Amelia Valverde has named an unchanged side for the first two matches, and is likely to do the same against Canada with the team clicking well. Still, moving Beckie back allows Priestman to fit more attacking players in the mix, with both Adriana Leon and Nichelle Prince starting against Panama. Both teams have scored seven goals in the process and not yet conceded a single time, so there's little to separate the two as of yet. Still, Beverly Priestman will need to sort out the offense ahead of a decisive game against a solid defensive squad.

Canada is a favorite for the Group B decider, but the odds are not be as lopsided as some we've seen in this CONCACAF W Championship tournament. With Canada struggling up front as a whole, will Bev Priestman consider starting Grosso from the beginning against Costa Rica in the Group B decider? Costa Rica generates attacking chances, and often finds a way to finish them, converting exactly half their 32 shots into on-frame attempts thus far through the first two matches. A minute later Janine Beckie jumps on a deflected Costa Rica clearance in the box and comes close to a second. 3rd min.: Canada with the first attacking threat of the match. Great start for Canada. First goal given up by Costa Rica at the W Championship. 22nd min.: It's been all Canada, who have the Costa Rican side pinned in its own half. 55th min.: Costa Rica has spent more time in Canada's half than Bev Priestman and the Canadian squad are probably comfortable with. Beckie and Prince have put in quite the shift. The nine points placed Canada at the top of Group B and ensured it will avoid rivals USA in the semifinals and instead face the second-place team in Group A: one of Jamaica or Haiti depending on the final results. The subs pay off for Canada with Adriana Leon feeding Schmidt the ball. After a save by Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Cloe Lacasse pushes the rebound off the left post, and it stays out.

Jessie Fleming, Sophie Schmidt score as Canada clinched top spot in Group B with 2-0 win over Costa Rica.

Headers from Beckie and Gilles were off-target in the first three minutes. The two third-place teams qualify for a World Cup intercontinental playoff. Schmidt doubled the lead in the 70th minute after a Canadian attack down the right flank. Canada and the U.S. have met in five of the previous 10 CONCACAF women’s finals, with the U.S. winning all five. The second half was choppier, with more breaks in play and Costa Rica managing some more possession if not scoring chances. Sinclair also came close with a header in the 16th minute. With two wins apiece before Monday’s match, both sixth-ranked Olympic champion Canada and No. 37 Costa Rica had already secured World Cup qualification by ensuring a berth in the semi-finals of the eight-team tournament. Fleming often moved up the field while Sinclair worked behind the forwards. Beckie also fired high in first-half stoppage time. Winning the CONCACAF tournament comes with a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics and a berth in the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup in 2024. With Costa Rica stringing a line of defenders across the field, Priestman deployed Beckie and Prince wide with Sinclair and Fleming in the middle when Canada was on the attack. Canada and Costa Rica entered the game with the same number of wins, points, goals scored (seven) and yellow cards (one).

Canada looking to establish rhythm against Costa Rica at ... (TSN)

The Canadians are getting set to take on Costa Rica on Monday in the final game of the group stage of the CONCACAF W Championship in Monterrey, Mexico. Canada ...

“We are working on a lot on the field and working on being more dangerous in the attacking third. “I think we've just got to use our strengths,” Priestman added. “I think creating those chances, being very threatening in the final third is important for us. The “lack of goals” narrative has stalked this team for several years, and it reared its head again after Canada was held to just a single goal against 57th-ranked Panama – a 64th-minute tally from Julia Grosso. “That's just part of being a professional at this level,” Leon said. This game is where we can hopefully get our flow and kick on because I think we need that test now heading into the games in front of us,” she said. “They're definitely going to put up a fight,” forward Nichelle Prince told TSN. “Obviously, we have played against them multiple times, and it's always a really good game. The next goal for both teams is to earn Olympic qualification. But I think we need a game now where those sorts of antics don't disrupt the rhythm.” Canada and Costa Rica are both currently tied atop Group B with six points and a +7 goal differential. It was a closer match than many would have anticipated, with Panama content to sit in a low block and smother the Canadian attack. “I think the most important thing for us now is we move past that game.
