What thing to note is that the Vancouver Canucks do not have to trade Miller this summer. A more perfect target was Mark Scheifele but he currently appears to be off the table. That may make some teams hesitant, but it appears the Rangers may be willing to give up a fair package for his services this upcoming season. The Rangers are cap-strapped for the next two seasons. Reports on Wednesday indicated Miller’s agent and the Canucks were not optimistic that they would be coming to terms on a new deal. If the Canucks are more amicable to something similar, the Rangers could easily offer their 2023 first-round pick, Nils Lundkvist, and maybe another mid-tier prospect to get a deal done.
Canucks rumors: The trade market on J.T. Miller is heating up, while Bo Horvat will likely receive an extension this offseason.
The Canucks open their season with a five-game road trip, taking on the Edmonton Oilers in the season opener on October 12th. He added the club has to address a bit of everything, and there isn’t a particular position they are looking to fill. He noted other teams have multiple second-round picks, and if the organization’s staff believes there are good players early in the second round, they might have to take a look at potentially adding a pick. The Canucks are without a second-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, and general manager Patrik Allvin discussed the chances of the club trading to acquire one. The Canucks will likely have to retain some of Myers’ salary or take on another contract in a deal for the defenceman. He adds the Canucks are open to moving Myers for the right deal.

The Canucks apparently have an asking price on Myers but what would the right side of their defence core look like without him? The trade rumours about J.T. Miller are cranking up and Faber was joined by Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff to discuss the latest that he is hearing. Seravalli mentioned that there is a small handful of four or five teams still in the mix for Miller in trade discussions.
Also, what's the latest on the Bo Horvat contract talks? Who will the Canucks take 15th overall in this year's NHL Draft?
The club likes both players — both for their on-ice contributions, and as stand up professionals — and haven’t told them “no” yet, but there’s been no rush to execute those deals prior to the opening of the market on July 13. Among teams that have gauged the club’s interest in parting with DiPietro, there’s a sense that the Canucks are still valuing the young netminder on the trade market like a very promising young asset. By all accounts, the Canucks don’t seem to believe that their key Russian-based players — Vasili Podkolzin and new unrestricted free agent signing Andrei Kuzmenko — will be impacted by what appears to be a mandatory military service matter. That Canucks management moved aggressively to iron out the framework of a potential Miller extension in advance of the draft is telling. From DiPietro’s point of view, it’s clear now that Spencer Martin has signed a two-year, one-way deal, that he’s been passed on the depth chart for potential NHL playing time. He’s the captain and new management wants him to take the reigns as a leader with conviction. As Martin showed last season, the swing for a team between having a reliable third puck stopper and an unreliable one can be significant. Make no mistake though, Canucks management is aware of the risk they take on in continuing to hold Miller beyond the next nine or 10 days without a settlement. That’s not to say that Horvat talks are on the back burner. The draft board ahead of Vancouver’s selection with the 15th overall pick could shape up unpredictably on Thursday night. Miller, the club’s leading scorer last season, has one year remaining on his current contract and is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 13. Still, the club made Miller’s camp a sizeable offer on Tuesday, with Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reporting that the two sides remain “far apart” in talks.
Canucks want to know one way or another what Miller is thinking likely before the Draft. Meanwhile the market for JT may not as high as VAN is hoping.” David Pagnota: The Canucks made Miller a six-year offer.
Irfaan Gaffar: “Canucks and Miller’s camp are gonna work the media and their people for the next 24-hours here at the draft.
