A native of St. Louis, Porter has played nine seasons in the NBA after being selected third overall by Washington in the 2013 draft.

“I think with this team, we’re capable of going very far in the playoffs. With this team, we’re capable of going back to the Finals,” said the 29-year-old. “A whole lineup with 6-7 to seven feet, that’s hard to play against, and I think with this team we’re capable of going very far in the playoffs. “He’s a versatile defender and high-level shooter who fits well with our team both on and off the court.” The 11-year NBA veteran also provides an element that Toronto has been missing in his three-point shooting. With a 73-inch wingspan, Porter Jr. perfectly fits the player mould the Raptors have been targeting.

After winning the title with the Warriors last season, Porter Jr. chose the Raptors for many reasons. Winning another championship is one of them.

“You just see all the hard work paid off in the off-season, getting your body ready, because … it’s a lot of ups and downs.” “Winning a championship last year in Golden State, I feel like I can bring that experience here to help the younger guys out. He played 63 games with Warriors last season but hadn’t played more than 56 in a season since 2017-18, which had to factor into the contract he signed. “I had some offers, other offers, but this is definitely a place I wanted to go to,” he said. “I’m locked in with those guys for life, we had an unbelievable year but this is a new opportunity for me — to come to Toronto and have aspirations of winning a championship here.” “Obviously winning a championship (with Golden State), I think a lot of guys were expecting everybody to be back to run at it again.

The deal with Toronto will see him compensated better, and also provide him an additional year of security in his contract. The Toronto Raptors managed to sign free-agent winger Otto Porter in the early part of NBA free agency. While Porter indicated that he had various offers in free agency, he felt that the Raptors’ offer was the most enticing due to his fit on the roster, as well as the fact that his wife is from Toronto.

Between the three-point shooting and his impressive defensive capabilities, the Raptors expect Porter Jr. to fit right in with the team and reinforce their strengths as well as provide some new skills to improve a Toronto squad that lost in the first round of the playoffs last season. Porter Jr. should slot right in with the Raptors, who have built the team with players of his size and skills in mind.

Porter said that he was intrigued by Toronto’s style of play, which seems perfectly built for a player with his skillset.

Otto Porter Jr. Is Ready to Bring Toronto Exactly What the Raptors ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Toronto Raptors are getting a floor spacer and NBA champion in Otto Porter Jr. who said Toronto was one of his preferred destinations this summer.

He and the organization will likely get together and start crafting an offseason plan while keeping the workload light on Porter who has dealt with injuries for much of his career. He's been a 40% shooter from behind the arc for his career and has nailed 42% of his catch-and-shoot looks from three-point range over the past six seasons. "I['ve] seen what it took to put it all together," said Porter who averaged 8.2 points in 22.2 minutes per game for the Warriors last season. "This is definitely a place I wanted to go to," he said during his introductory press conference Wednesday afternoon at the OVO Athletic Centre. "My wife is from here, it’s just a lot easier for the family. He's gone from a high prized No. 3 draft pick by the Washington Wizards and a max contract kind of player to an injury-plagued role player and eventually an NBA champion. Only two rotation players remain from that group, Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet, and a little more championship know-how is never something to overlook.
