They enlist the help of De Niro’s character, who says his friend “was killed because of something monstrous he had seen,” and tells the gang that getting involved could cost him his life. Shannon, standing by him, claps for emphasis. “You don’t get here without things starting a long time ago.

Like Rian Johnson’s 2019 hit, Amsterdam features an A-list ensemble cast; marries the serious with the eccentric, tonally; and centers around a mysterious death, which makes way for much bigger—and more startling—revelations. Margot Robbie, John David Washington, and Christian Bale star as the leading trio: a nurse, an attorney, and a doctor bonded by a deep friendship and a shared accusation of murder. While not affiliated with Knives Out in any official sense, David O. Russell’s highly anticipated film Amsterdam might well be a spiritual cousin of the star-studded murder mystery. The story is billed as “an original crime epic about three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. What exactly that entails remains to be seen, but a rough outline of the film is present in the trailer, which depicts Robbie, Washington and Bale fighting to clear their names after they’re accused of putting “a dead white man in a box.”
The first trailer for David O. Russell's star-studded 'Amsterdam' crime film — with Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, more — has been released.
His other films include Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. Amsterdam hits theaters Nov. 4. “We formed a pact and we swore to protect each other, no matter what,” Bale says, before revealing that the three friends are accused of killing someone, “which is not true.” The trailer, which opens with Rock’s character appearing perplexed at the three friends carrying a “dead white man in a box,” features a voiceover from Bale explaining how the three associates met, forged a bond and found themselves in Amsterdam.

“This is becoming a lot larger than any of us,” observes Robbie’s character, who has seen some stuff. It doesn’t even have a top on it.” As he wheels the pine container away, he laments: “Who do you think is going to get in trouble here?” “You have a dead white man in a box,” Rock’s character says at the start of the trailer.
Taylor Swift is making a return to the big screen, for the first time since 2019's Cats, in Amsterdam. Christian Bale, Robert De Niro and Margot Robbie also ...
But still, her getting the same billing as supporting cast members Shannon et al gives us hope that we'll see quite a bit of her in the film. Plus she'll be working with the very best in the business, so that's got to count for something. Swift has only really dipped a toe into the movie-making pool in the past, bringing her musical talents to Cats (her songs in that movie were the only ones that slapped) and appearing only briefly in rom-com Valentine's Day and drama The Giver. Amsterdam – a comic-twinged, period murder mystery – looks like an ideal setting for her to flourish as an actor, with an opportunity to flex both dramatic and comedic chops.
