After going 4-4 against a pair of AL East rivals at home, the Toronto Blue Jays hit the road to open a series with the Oakland Athletics.
Blue Jays lead after three innings (-112): Manoah’s 0.51 ERA the first time through the order makes it unlikely Oakland will get much done on offence early. The Blue Jays and Athletics have matching relief ERAs (4.38), and both have been worse lately. Blue Jays -2 (-105): The starting pitching mismatch gives us enough confidence to move this up from the traditional run line for more value, and Toronto is likely to win handily because of the disparity between the two lineups. Unlike Manoah, Irvin is likely to put upward pressure on this game’s run total. Manoah’s presence on the mound changes the equation slightly, but the big right-hander has looked a little more human in recent starts. While those factors are valid, they shouldn’t be enough to dissuade an over bet.

He can contain a Toronto team which has lost three games in a row, and did not get many clutch hits on Saturday and Sunday against the Rays. After they got shut down in consecutive games by the Seattle Mariners, you might wonder how the A’s will beat Manoah and the Jays. Start with this: Toronto has struggled with West Coast road trips in previous years. He is able to run the fastball in toward the hitter and use the slider to get hitters to chase pitches away. Cole Irvin has a 3.58 ERA, which is obviously not elite but is also entirely respectable. He has been relentlessly consistent, and when he gives up three runs in a start, it’s on the lower end of his performances this season. He has a 2.09 ERA. He has given up more than three earned runs only once this season, more than two earned runs only twice.
BOTTOM LINE: The Oakland Athletics begin a three-game series at home against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. Oakland has an 8-29 record at home and a 26-55 ...
He has a 3.19 ERA in nine career games against the A's. RHP Adrián Martínez (1-1, 6.30) pitches the middle game of the series for the Athletics. ... RHP Dany Jiménez, who went on the 15-day injured list June 21 with a strained pitching shoulder, played catch and is set to begin a throwing progression. LHP Yusei Kikuchi (3-4, 3.74 ERA) takes the mound for Toronto on Tuesday having gone 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA over three starts vs. “I feel like I need to test it before I go out there and try to throw 100 pitches on it,” Gausman said. “It's a big change of gears for everybody over there.” Irvin retired his first 11 batters before Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled in the fourth and Alejandro Kirk followed with a run-scoring single. Manager Mark Kotsay sounded optimistic about Montas — the subject of trade speculation — being ready to take his next turn in the rotation. “Just thankful for being born in the USA. It's kind of corny. “There was a lot of memories of the good times. Manager Bob Melvin left to lead the Padres. Toronto right-hander Alek Manoah (9-3) was tagged for five runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. A packed crowd at the Coliseum — there's no better place to play major league baseball than the Coliseum packed with fans.

The game takes place at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, California and will only be available on local TV or through an MLB.tv subscription. They’ve lost 24 of their last 30 games and have won just one of their last seven games. You really shouldn’t have to think about this one all too hard. Manoah has been dialed in all season though, allowing just 22 earned runs in nearly 100 frames of work.

He has pitched at least six innings in 13 of his 15 starts this season and into the seventh four times over his last eight. Bet the Jays to take this one by a couple of runs. As mentioned, Manoah has looked unhittable at times, allowing two or fewer earned runs in 13 of his 15 starts this season and now faces an A’s team hitting .209 with a .591 OPS when facing right-handers. The first game of a West-Coast swing can also be tough. You can even argue that they've been the best offense in baseball since the start of June, ranking first in batting average, OPS, and wRC+ in that time. Oakland ranks dead last in the Majors in both batting average and OPS when vs. The total hit the board at 7.0 and has been bet up a half run to 7.5 as of Monday afternoon. The A's are 4-17 in their last 21 home games when facing a right-handed starter. That means a tough task looms for A’s starter Cole Irvin. As noted, the lefty has been a reliable arm for Oakland, consistently pitching deep into ball games. They took the first two games of their series against the Tampa Bay Rays but lost that same series in a rare five-game set. The right-hander has also bounced back from his “worst” start of the year by posting outstanding performances against the Brewers and Red Sox. The Toronto Blue Jays did something odd this weekend.
The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to rebound from getting swept by the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend when they face the league's worst team, the Oakland.
I don’t love backing a team as a 2.5-run favorite, but there really isn’t much of a choice in this matchup. The A’s have one of the league’s worst offenses, ranking 30th in OPS, 29th in runs scored and posting a negative-116 run differential in 2022. The Blue Jays have really struggled as a team in the pitching department, ranking 21st in team ERA, but Manoah has been a bright spot all year long.

In the midst of a four-game slide, the Toronto Blue Jays need a win to avoid dropping a series to the 27-55 Oakland Athletics.
Toronto is a tough team to strike out, too. Martinez under 3.5 strikeouts (-112): Martinez only has two MLB appearances under his belt, but it’s clear he lacks swing-and-miss stuff. That shouldn’t be too much to ask against the A’s considering they slash just .219/.286/.356 against southpaws, and Kikuchi has a strong history against them from his time in Seattle. He throws his sinker 59.9% of the time, and Toronto has handled that pitch well in 2022. Facing a rookie starter in Martinez is likely to help them get going. Skip Advertisement
Oakland took the first game of this three game series with Toronto, 5-1 and all of the sudden, the Blue Jays have lost four in a row.
The Memphis Grizzlies are seriously committed to second-round draft pick Kennedy Chandler. The former Tennessee point guard and the team came to terms Tuesday on a four-year, $7.1 million deal that includes a guarantee of $4.94 million -- the highest guarantee ever for an American selected in the second round, according to The Athletic. Chandler, a 19-year-old Tennessee native, played one year with the Volunteers before he was selected 38th overall in the NBA draft last month. After the Padres tied the game with an unearned run against Gilbert in the bottom of the third, Seattle scored three in top of the fourth -- the rally starting with two out and no one on. The Yankees got on the scoreboard in the fifth. Chestnut quickly proceeded to put the protestor in a chokehold and slam him to the floor before continuing on. The Cardinals scored a run off of Anderson with a two-out rally in the first. While he didn’t top his world record of 76 hot dogs and buns consumed during last year’s competition, Chestnut still bested the field by a considerable 15.5 margin by putting down 63 hot dogs and buns on Monday. Chestnut set the previous record of 75 hot dogs and buns eaten during the 2020 event. A protestor rushed the competition stage and stood next to Chestnut while holding a sign. Campbell, 30, spent the 2021–22 season working in Germany as a skills coach and, eventually, an assistant coach for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers of the DEL. Prior to that, Campbell worked as a skating coach for the Malmö Redhawks of the top-level Swedish Hockey League. She has also served as an assistant coach for Team Germany at the 2022 IIHF Men’s World Championship, becoming the first woman to coach at that tournament. New York Mets ace Max Scherzer returned to the mound after more than six weeks on the injured list and picked up exactly where he left off in May. In a six-inning outing against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, Scherzer struck out 11 batters, allowed only two hits, and held the Reds scoreless. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media discussed the Mayfield situation during his Tuesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” He said he has “heard nothing to corroborate Baker to the Seahawks at all.” “It seems crazy to me, but they have never really been that interested in Baker,” Rapoport said. "There is no traction on any kind of a Lakers deal for Kyrie Irving," The Athletic's Shams Charania said during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday. "There is nothing new on that, I'm not quite sure we're going to see that take place." The over is a strong play today especially with an unknown quantity on the mound for Oakland.

The Jays' outfielder has collected at least one hit in 13 of his last 14 games, hitting .392 with a 1.074 OPS, including eight extra-base hits over that stretch. The Jays lead the MLB in batting average, OPS, and wRC+ since June 1. The Blue Jays are the play here because of their offense and the state of the A's, but it’s hard to feel confident backing them at this price with Kikuchi on the mound. But despite the struggles the offense keeps rolling and whether it's a guy like Alejandro Kirk, Teoscar Hernandez, or Lourdes Gurriel Jr., they continually present us with betting value when it comes to total bases props. We talked about how strong the Blue Jays’ offense is. This guy had surrendered at least three runs in each of his five previous starts, none last more than 4 2-3 innings. The total hit the board at 8.0 and has been bet up to 8.5. The Blue Jays' woes continued Monday night, dropping Game 1 of their series against the Athletics 5-1. And we know what happened last night — so this could be described as a very slight lean. Yusei Kikuchi (3-4, 4.74 ERA): The roller-coaster season for Kikuchi continues. Adrian Martinez (1-1, 6.30 ERA): The 25-year-old A’s prospect is making just his third career start. Can Toronto bounce back when it hands the ball to Yusei Kikuchi for Game 2, or does Oakland have value as an underdog again?

The Blue Jays face the Athletics on Tuesday. Our MLB odds series includes our Blue Jays Athletics prediction, odds, and pick.
Toronto has lost four straight and has fallen into another funk, just when it seemed the Jays were beginning to stabilize and secure their wild card position in the American League. Toronto is unsteady and ripe for the plucking in this game. It is a far better team than Oakland, and the A’s are not throwing one of their particularly good pitchers at the Jays in this game. We’ll see how he adjusts to last week’s rough ride in the Pacific Northwest. Cole Irvin got his first win in roughly two months against the Blue Jays on Monday. That was unexpected. Adrian Martinez has made only two starts this season for the A’s. His first was on May 10, and he pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings versus the Tigers. His second start was on June 30 against the Mariners. Seattle shredded him for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings. Yusei Kikuchi has a 4.74 ERA, and he has had a very difficult year, particularly in June. He posted a 7.17 ERA for that month. It’s hard to say, but the Jays desperately need more from the former Seattle Mariner, who produced a 2.36 ERA in May but managed only a 5.52 ERA in April. He had one really good sequence of starts this year, but that didn’t last.

Look for a comfortable Toronto win on Tuesday to set up a rubber game matchup on Wednesday. Although this stadium is regarded as a pitcher's park, the total has gone over in five of the last seven meetings here between these two. The Oakland Athletics will play host to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. Toronto Blue Jays vs. Adrian Martinez will be making his third career start on Tuesday. The rookie right-hander was lit up by the Seattle Mariners in his previous outing, allowing seven runs in just 4 2/3 frames. The lefty is just 3-4 with a 4.74 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. He did produce his best start of 2022 in his last time out versus the Tampa Bay Rays. He went six innings of one-run ball, striking out eight.

Kevin Gausman is unlikely to make his next start on Thursday in Seattle after not throwing his bullpen session on Tuesday. He suffered an ankle injury on a comebacker last Saturday against Tampa. His last time out, Kikuchi gave up one run on four hits and a walk in six innings in a win over Tampa last week. After a bounce-back performance last week against the Tampa Bay Rays, Yusei Kikuchi finally seemed to have something to build on heading into Tuesday's start against the Oakland Athletics.
