Unfortunately, I did the mistake in that last lap in Q3, where I knew it was the lap I had to put together and I just didn’t do a good enough job. But then you arrive to Formula 1, you think you're the best in the rain, and then you suddenly find yourself with the likes of Max, Charles, Lewis, what to say about Lewis, and other drivers that are very, very, very good in the wet and it's super difficult to make a difference or make one tenth of a difference. Of course, a shame to miss a pole position but I also know that tomorrow are the points and that's what I like on a Sunday, to go racing, and especially when you have a good feeling with the car. I think it was Portimão, and it felt great, so that's a target, to do it again. I knew it was the lap where I had to put everything together and I didn't as a driver, so I didn't deserve to be on pole. If I look back to FP2 the pace was there and I was feeling at home with a car and I'm pushing well on the tyres. And it's so tight all the time, every single qualifying or in the race, like last time, so I hope we can all have a fun race. I kept it cool through the session and then towards the end, I decided to push for a couple of laps and put a decent lap on the board. But towards the end, those last two laps, they started to switch on and I managed to put a couple of laps that were decent, but it was a big challenge. it was nothing special but I just put it on the board and see how it how it is and it was pole position which came as a bit of a surprise. The pace has been there all weekend, except for FP3 where we had some issues that we think we have corrected them for Quali, but if I base myself on my FP2 pace then we should be in a good position to try and hold on to it. And yeah, it was a good lap, but I was struggling a lot with the standing water.

What the teams said – Qualifying at the 2022 British Grand Prix ... (Formula 1 RSS UK)

The drivers and teams report back on all the action from final practice and qualifying at Silverstone, for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022...

"It felt like we had made a good step with the car in the dry in FP3, and that we could be in the mix for qualifying. The car behaves well in the dry as well as in the wet and all the data emanating from the factory show that we have taken a good step forward thanks to the changes made this weekend." But all we can do is turn the page and see what we can do tomorrow. "Obviously, we are not happy with the level of performance shown here, but the guys are continuing to work hard, and we will be looking to maximise any opportunities that come our way in tomorrow’s race. "I am looking forward to tomorrow, the track conditions should be dry, and I think we have the opportunity to score some points, which is always our main target. "In FP3 we looked very strong with good pace in the dry and we felt like we made good progress. It’s put us quite a bit back on the grid, so we have a lot of work to do tomorrow but we will come out swinging.” "We found the issue in the car that was troubling us on Friday and in the race we will be a lot more competitive. The car is good in the wet and the dry, so if the car is working well during the race tomorrow then we should have a good chance of winning.” We backed off to charge the battery and go into a racier mode for the final lap but that was just when the rain started to fall heavier and it cost us. It was tricky for everyone out there but I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t have a better qualifying session, we didn’t expect to fight for pole but more was possible. It will be a very tight battle with our competitors, but I’m ready for it and I’m sure we can put together a strong race and fight for the win.
