Hockey Canada issued a statement Tuesday in the wake of Scotiabank's withdrawal. It's our national sport, and we bestow a degree of privilege and respect upon hockey players and coaches that we just don't in other sports here in Canada." McKee said in his view, it's dollars more than anything else that can force change in an elite and well-funded sports organization. "This is a drastic step and could cause many others to follow suit." In a statement, Esso, through its parent company Imperial Oil, said it is watching the situation and "that concrete steps must be taken immediately to address safety issues and ensure swift culture change." Last week the federal government announced it would also stop all government funding until Hockey Canada can show signs of positive change.

Scotiabank, Canadian Tire, Telus withdraw support for Hockey Canada in response to its handling of an alleged sexual assault and out-of-court settlement.

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage is set to meet July 26 and 27 to hear from more witnesses. Details of the settlement have not been made public, but Smith testified Hockey Canada came up with the funds, adding no government money was used. “We have been on this journey for some time, but we agree that more needs to be done, and more quickly.” Scotiabank said it’s making a donation to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, which supports victims of gender-based violence. It has also requested a redacted copy of the non-disclosure agreement related to the out-of-court settlement and a long list of Hockey Canada communications. Hockey Canada said in a statement Tuesday it “values” its relationship with Scotiabank, adding “we both respect and understand their decision.”

OPINION: Hockey Canada's swift out-of-court settlement seems 'fishy' (Sault Star)

According to a May 26 piece posted by CBC Sports, the alleged assaults took place in June 2018, following a Hockey Canada Foundation gala and golf event in that city. The un-named plaintiff alleged she was sexually assaulted by multiple Canadian Hockey ...

She was humiliated and feared reprisals and the destruction of her well-being and reputation. But most of all, she saw the power of money, fame and eight young men who had no inkling or desire to recognize her place in the world as a human being. She was up against a hockey organization with money, men with power and money and junior hockey players who were looking at the same “lifelong benefits” if they could keep their noses clean? Was she taken in by the attention of a famous National Junior Hockey Team member who bought her drinks and shots? He invites others into the hotel room and she is allegedly gang raped. Fearing reprisals, she surrendered to their sexual demands, even though she was crying and in pain. If so, that is coercion and the intimidation she spoke about. She described how other players were invited into the room without her consent, where she was sexually assaulted for several hours. In her statement of claim, she met one of the players at a downtown bar where she became visibly intoxicated after he bought her several alcoholic drinks and shots. This remains to be seen, but what took place after the sex with one player, was deemed as sexual assault, non-consensual, abhorrent and reprehensible. At this point she felt an ongoing fear of further physical and sexual assault. The unnamed plaintiff alleged she was sexually assaulted by multiple Canadian Hockey League players, including members of Canada’s gold-medal winning 2017-18 World Junior team.

Continuing to be better (Hockey Canada)

“Whether it’s in sport, EDI, the registrar’s office and recruitment of student-athletes, everyone is trying to be better and do better. The support Radcliffe feels from her team, leadership and the community is what encourages her to be creative and collaborative. I’ll come and be a part of the GSA.’ So, it’s been huge steps and that’s the goal, is that the GSA should be student-led.” In addition, there are 27 gender-inclusive washrooms available on campus, two Pride flags flying high and an EDI webpage complete with resources and directories for Indigenous students, people of colour and the GSA. Radcliffe grew up in a family that gave back to the community through volunteering. [Volunteering] was the best way for me and I want to instill that in them.” Radcliffe has recognized that it’s a struggle for most organizations to find volunteers right now, but that struggle creates opportunity for student-athletes in Olds. She grew up playing baseball and school sports, not because she was a standout on the court with her 5-foot-2 frame, but because the school needed her to have a team. Because of the network she had built, Radcliffe eventually earned a full-time position with Hockey Canada as the female development coordinator before moving into the manager position. It was a twist of fate that led to a goaltending career. Over the last decade, Olds College has worked to develop its Broncos athletics program, expanding to include basketball, volleyball, futsal, rodeo and women’s hockey. “There was everything from nine-year-olds to 18-year-olds on that team.
