Follow all the action from SW19 as the grand slam gets underway.

It wouldn’t be the early rounds of Wimbledon if there wasn’t a rain delay. The match is delicately poised but the rain has to clear up first. There are a few more umbrella’s coming up as the rain gets slightly heavier. The word coming out of Wimbledon is that there won’t be any play until 12:30pm at the earliest. Closing out the action will be Murray, who faces James Duckworth. Murray made it to the third round last year but was emphatically defeated by Denis Shapovalov and admitted afterwards that he was questioning his future. The US Open champion has shaken off injury concerns but faces a tricky opening match against world No 46 Alison van Uytvanck, who reached the fourth round herself in 2018.

The World No. 3 is chasing his seventh title at Wimbledon, a tally that would draw him level with legendary American Pete Sampras and move him within one of record-holder Roger Federer’s eight crowns. Despite that setback, Djokovic's movement around the court was sharp in his first competitive appearance on grass in 2022. Coupled with the huge attention on the US Open champion’s homecoming and a tricky opponent, this was a major test, but Raducanu passed it impressively by claiming a 6-4, 6-4 victory. A couple of fizzing backhands, coupled with a poor volley and double fault from Van Uytvanck, gave Raducanu the first break in the seventh game. But there were no early causes for alarm as Raducanu threw herself into serves and groundstrokes, missing two break points in the opening game but then saving three on her own serve as the first two games lasted a gruelling 17 minutes.

The first point goes to Kwon as Djokovic fires into the net but two strong serves from the Serb put him back in control. Djokovic is left doing the splits as Kwon gives him the eyes and fires a forehand winner to go 30-0 up. Djokovic is just starting to find a bit of rhythm now and has Kwon doing all the running. A massive serve forces Djokovic to return long and Kwon has the set! Kwon then opens his body up to smash a forehand into the corner to level it up at 30-30 and another drop shot gives him set point. Kwon hits another unforced error and Djokovic is on the board in the third set. Kwon is back in control as the Serb hits another easy forehand into the net and then gifts another point with a poor overhead smash. Kwon remains patient and focused though with a winner at the net to hold. Duckworth gets to it but he's out of position for the next shot and Murray gets to 30-0. Murray then hits a forehand into the net and it's an early break for the Australian. Murray takes advantage of Duckworth's shot trickling over the net with a nice drop shot that takes it to 30-30. Duckworth hits the net to allow Murray back in at 30-30 and his aggressive style pays off as he breaks again.

"The last thing I expected was to come back from surgery and win two titles in a row," Berrettini said after retaining his Queen's Club crown. Rune, Musetti and Draper are third, fourth and fifth — respectively — in the Pepperstone ATP Race To Milan, trailing only Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. After winning at Stuttgart and The Queen's Club, the Italian enters Wimbledon on a nine-match winning streak. The Italian leads Garin 2-1 in their ATP Head2Head, though Tuesday's contest will be the pair's first meeting on grass. That's what I think I achieved in the last couple of weeks, to get as many matches on grass as possible. "I love the serve-and-volley game, coming in as much as I can, slicing, attacking. I said — I insisted, in fact — that I can play on this surface, and it remains one of my favourite surfaces that tennis has to offer. The fourth seed is widely regarded as one of the game's best clay-courters, so that statement is not one to be taken lightly. "People kind of doubted that I can play on grass, I think it's fair to say. A new treatment on his chronic foot injury has provided relief from pain both on the court and in his daily life. In stark contrast to Nadal, Tsitsipas played three grass-court events in the last month, saving his best for last. It's a little bit more predictable when you have the history in the weeks before."

The club kept the name even though the new primary court was no longer so central. “I just really tried to cherish every single point on there, played every point like it could have been one of my last on that court.” Victories have been much harder to come by since then, but she already had fine memories of Wimbledon after reaching the fourth round in her first appearance in the main draw last year. Of course, every time I step out there on the court, there is this goose bumps type of feeling, butterflies in the stomach.” The little stuff: The benches and desks in the Centre Court press seats have been replaced with padded chairs. “Childhood dreams were realized here in 2011,” Djokovic said of the first of his six Wimbledon singles titles.

Wimbledon returns in full with big crowds, roars and a little rain (The Washington Post)

The All England Club had a first day unlike any since 2019, what with the pandemic nixing 2020 and forcing 50 percent capacity for the opening of 2021.

The war in Ukraine: As the tournament gets underway, Wimbledon’s Russia and Belarus ban leaves 16 of the top 100 on the outside. Then the crowd cheered Struff at great length as he tried to hold on, but then a well-placed, 97-mph, second-serve winner coaxed an error and ended it, Alcaraz applauding Struff as Struff walked out. At times it felt like one of those occasions when the opponent, in this case 32-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany, seemed more of an inconvenience. He’s one of the multiple, viable interests for British tennis fans who used to have to throw it all on Tim Henman a generation ago. “Yes, because I’ve experienced something that I’ve never experienced in my life in Australia. So this post-Australia period of next several months was challenging emotionally for me because of a lot of different factors.” He said the “sensations coming back on the court with everything that happened post-Australia, particularly the first few tournaments, was difficult. Well before he reached his present-day ranking of No. 12, he got seeded No. 29 last year at Wimbledon, which meant he got into the seeded locker rooms, no? They happened for Carlos Alcaraz, the 19-year-old Spanish sensation, and they were deep and big and throaty under the roof. All the possibilities came back into the air, in a manner that rings with the words of Ons Jabeur, the woman ranked a heady No. 2, when she said, “I’m someone from Tunisia; nobody even believed that I could be here, and here I am talking to you [reporters].” Right now, I don’t feel the traces of that, so to say, anymore. People watched from over the walls of the adjacent court, with one dangling a glass of rosé that looked well north of unpleasant. Over by little Court No. 17 early on, tucked in a row of courts sandwiched between the two monsters (Centre and No. 1), native Marylander Frances Tiafoe played his 25th major tournament, somehow. WIMBLEDON, England — Wimbledon resumed unmitigated life Monday for the first time since 2019 and the last echoes of “Roger, Roger!” ricocheting around Centre Court from a soaring men’s final way back then.

Emma Raducanu lives to play another day at Wimbledon (The Globe and Mail)

By the time Djokovic got Kwon under control, three hours had passed and the crowd was in need of relief. When Raducanu emerged onto Centre Court 10 minutes ...

“I’m going to play like a kid who just loves playing tennis,” Raducanu said over the weekend. The important thing is that she cemented one positive memory on the most recognizable surface in tennis. Maybe the “hopefully” is a verbal tic. The British tabs have spent weeks playing up Raducanu’s Wimbledon – only her second – like it’s her last chance to win this thing. It speaks to a young person who senses keenly – maybe too keenly – what’s at stake. The crowd was back and the air was lighter. After the worst of it was over on Monday, Raducanu likened it to her gap year (only, I suppose, more painful and more profitable). The all-clear was announced on Saturday. Between points, she wanders off to the back wall to have a little chat with herself. It’s another to do it on a cool late afternoon at a place where they serve champagne for breakfast. Which is not to say that she won with much elan. By the time Djokovic got Kwon under control, three hours had passed and the crowd was in need of relief.
