Jon Moxley takes on Hiroshi Tanahashi for the interim AEW Championship.
Umino put Jericho in the Walls of Jericho, but it was broken up by Suzuki and Guevara. Jericho broke up the pin, but he ate a Shotgun Dropkick from Umino. Guevara hit Umino with a Springboard Cutter, but then Wheeler Yuta surprised Guevara with a top-rope splash for a two count -- and the first "this is awesome!" They showed footage of Jericho attacking Shota Umino in New Japan back when Umino was just a trainee, which was very cool. The first big pop came when Eddie Kingston tagged in to confront Jericho, but Jericho tagged out to Suzuki. The crowd popped huge for it. Packed with action, it was a fun six-man tag that set the tone for what's sure to be an insane night. This was a chaotic opening match, but in the best way.

A few minutes into the match, Harwood was escorted to the back at one point, so he may have suffered an injury. The match wasn't perfect by any means, but it was as entertaining as it needed to be. After hitting Black with a 450, Pac locked Connors in the Brutalizer for the win. - Suzuki's entrance music alone is over with the crowd more than a lot of stars on the roster. This match was a fight from the moment the bell rang. This match was chaos, but the good kind of chaos. Actually, saying they obeyed the rules is a bit of a stretch. Caster and Billy were able to get in some offense here and there, but it wasn't much. Lee and Swerve were able to secure the win before Team Taz taunted them from the crowd. The physicality was good here because both guys have the size and power to really make their hits look good, but it didn't have much else to it. Goto and Yoshi-Hashi scored the win to kick the show off. The last few minutes were the best part of the match.

Comoroto got Archer up for a gorilla press, but Archer slid out and took Comoroto down with a boot, then sent him to the floor with a flying tackle. I hope we bring in every single tag team in the world. He's signing the best talent in the world right now, because he wants the fans to enjoy a product that he's putting on. Because I promise you the more he brings them in, the more Cash and I will step up and show that we are the best. During the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view, Claudio Castagnoli (FKA Cesaro in WWE) debuted when he was the mystery opponent against Zack Sabre Jr., who was slated to face Bryan Danielson, tonight. Before his decade-long run in WWE, Castagnoli was a star on the independent scene, most notably having runs in Ring Of Honor, PWG, CZW, and Chikara. Castagnoli initially signed with WWE in 2011 where he quickly rose the ranks, going from the company’s development territory FCW and quickly making his main roster debut in April 2012. The match against Sabre Jr. would mark Castagnoli’s first appearance in a non-WWE ring since signing with the company in 2011.

Cesaro (real name Claudio Castagnoli) departed from the WWE back in February, bringing his 11-year run with the promotion to an end.
If I had any clout anywhere, as far as that much stuff, I would sacrifice some of the money from that roster to get rid of people, this may sound horrible, to get him. He needs to do whatever he feels is right for his family," Regal said while on The Sessions. "If my words mean anything. The idea of Cesaro being that addition fits right in line with what William Regal has said publicly in recent months. "I've only put my cards for four people where I've gone and said, 'I can't tell you if they are going to draw you any money, but they are incredible at what they do, they are professional, they will always be there, they will represent the company well.' Everything that you could want out of a person. He's a phenomenal, phenomenal athlete, lets be honest, his strength is tip-top, he has very few peers in the power department. There was a very awkward finish to this match that might have been a result of a legit Adam Cole injury. Dax Harwood almost singlehandedly took this from a somewhat middling match to an excellent match. Jay White looked very upset despite having his hand raised. - FTR vs. AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door featured an interpromotional pay-per-view from the United Center in Chicago, Ill. Forbidden Door presale tickets sold out instantly, drawing a million-dollar gate, though over 2,000 tickets currently remain after general sales. Jim Ross was on the call for this match, and of all the matches on this card, I felt like a match like this was the least-likely to be called by J.R. United Empire vs. This was the first match all night to feature blood as Jon Moxley bled profusely toward the end. This match was my pick for match of the night, and from this point on, it’s going to be tough to prove me wrong. PAC should be a more than formidable AEW All Atlantic champion, but with Miro also in this match, he was the wrong choice to win. The hits seemed to keep on coming as Dax Harwood went to the back with a dislocated shoulder, however he returned later in the the match to a huge pop with a taped shoulder. Viewership flatlined during the home stretch.
A brawl broke out between two fans during Sunday's AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in Chicago. It was during the main event.

New AEW World Champion Jon Moxley addressed fans following his victory over Hiroshi Tanahashi at Sunday's AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door.
Prior to Moxley and Khan’s speeches, a brawl ensued between JAS and BCC during the closing moments of Forbidden Door. As seen in the video below, Kingston appeared unhappy about having to team with his former CHIKARA and PWG rival Claudio, which is a side storyline to pay attention to. “The Jericho Appreciation Society represents filthy, scuzzy sports entertainment,” Moxley said. During the end of his speech, Moxley would also take a friendly jab at his former employer, WWE.

The AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door main event between Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi was one hell of a match. With CM Punk not dropping his belt, it will be interesting to see the eventual build-up between these two talented wrestlers. NJPW even got their fair share of wins against the “home” wrestlers.
Jon Moxley ended up being able to main event the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event, but he was reportedly set for another bout originally.
One of the biggest blows came to CM Punk, who was originally going to main event the show against Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW World Championship which he had recently won from Hangman Page. Unfortunately, Punk suffered an injury that forced him off the show, and that led to Tony Khan changing the main event to be for an interim AEW World Championship after he opted not to vacate the title from Punk. Tanahashi remained in that match, and the AEW President put Moxley in against him, which was a match the former WWE Superstar ended up winning. Jon Moxley was able to walk away from the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event as the interim AEW World Champion, but he was originally slated to be in the opening match of the show according to Dave Meltzer of the “ Wrestling Observer Radio.”

I thought I was just going to disappear from wrestling, and I didn't like the thought of that. With tonight's match, however, he was able to once again show his stuff and how he is still able to retain his years of experience into his 60s, making him a threat in the ring. Hearing the crowd respond to him, it's made me turn back the clock and think of all the different memorable reactions over the years to different wrestlers.

Except for during the very early stages of the company, PAC has been occupied with a lot of faction feuds and multi-man matches. Ospreay had his way with and mocked Cassidy early to build heat, and it only made the gorgeous strings of combos and counter wrestling that followed that much more meaningful. It feels like a potential winner-take-all match with Matt and Nick Jackson – the AEW world champions – would be possible at “All Out.” Will Ospreay for the IWGP United States championship had show-stealing potential, and it delivered on all it of it. It all ended with the surprise return of the legendary Katsuyori Shibata, who has wrestled sparingly recently due to injury, to save Cassidy from an attack by Ospreay and United Empire. Castagnoli is the newest member of the Blackpool Combat Club in a dream stable with Moxley, Danielson and William Regal. Khan said during the post-show media scrum that he originally talked to Castagnoli about debuting at Ring of Honor’s upcoming “Death Before Dishonor” show. The King of Swing got a huge pop from the Chicago crowd — and plenty of tweets from WWE talent, including Becky Lynch — in his first appearance since letting his WWE contract run out in February. He showed off his signature strength, carrying Sabre Jr. up the ring steps and then bumping him over the top rope. Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood have won seven different tag team championships from the top wrestling companies in the world. They now hold the AAA, ROH and IWGP tag team titles after defeating the teams of Jeff Cobb-Great-O-Khan and Rocky Romero-Trent Beretta on Sunday. Each team was given moments where you thought they would win before FTR hit the Big Rig to bring home the New Japan belts. After spending his entire first title reign performing in front of zero fans, he became the first man to get a second go with the belt as he defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi — the competitor he’s been chasing for years — in a very good main event. The tensions between the Bullet Club-rooted groups grew even more when Jay White pinned Adam Cole to win the four-way match that also included “Hangman” Adam Page and Kazuchika Okada to retain his IWGP world heavyweight championship. It made the show’s last impression feel more like a go-home show than a pay-per-view.
AEW & NJPW collided for a fantastic night of professional wrestling with Forbidden Door. Let's go over each match, ranked from worst to best!
Moxley and Tanahashi went to war in the main event, literally, with Moxley bleeding brutally. As expected, this match saw all four guys going crazy, with Connors managing to shine and get over with a crowd that was expecting Ishii in his spot. Building to a major stand-off between Suzuki & Kingston, the two men unloaded on each other with chops and strikes in front of a very appreciative crowd. Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho would team up with Minoru Suzuki against Wheeler Yuta, Eddie Kingston, and Shota Umino to kick off the main show. Worked or not, the early portion of the match would see Dax Harwood sent to the back for an injury. With the match becoming a 4-on-2 handicap match, the odds would be somewhat stacked against Caster and Gunn.
