NHL's top free-agent goalies in 2022: Darcy Kuemper, Marc-Andre ... (The Athletic)

Goaltenders are the most important position, but also the most volatile. No matter how safe they may appear, there's always risk involved.

If the annual goaltending carousel is a game of musical chairs, signing Jones is what happens when a team is the last one standing. Whether that’s for real or not is up for a pro scout to determine, but the numbers suggest promise. What happened afterward left a lot to be desired – and a lot of money on the table. He dipped a bit to close out the season and didn’t have a strong playoffs, but the foundation is there for Husso to take the reins somewhere and be some team’s answer. one of the goalies below Greiss is Martin Jones, who has allowed 32 goals above expected over the last three seasons. Obviously not the same goalie he once was – it’s been five years since Holtby has posted a .915 save percentage – but last season felt like a renaissance before he got injured. His start to the season last year was exceptional and it looked like the Leafs finally found an answer in net. After a strong second season, he now ranks 19th among goalies in projected GSVA per game – and part of the reason he’s so low is due to his small sample size. Husso only played 40 games which is hardly enough to go on for a goalie, but in that time he ranked seventh in the league with 13 goals saved above expected, earning a .919 save percentage in the process. His first year in Colorado is where he was finally able to prove his worth and he had an exceptional season, saving 16 goals above expected thanks to a .921 save percentage. There is plenty of risk involved with turning to Fleury to be a team’s answer in net, especially if there isn’t a solid backup plan behind him. Different teams have different needs and fits – it makes a bit more sense to go through an exclusive list of forwards if that’s at the top of a team’s wish list.

Darcy Kuemper Might Ruin His Value On The Biggest Stage (Pucks and Pitchforks)

Darcy Kuemper has been pretty average in the Stanley Cup Final, and that might change the minds of the New Jersey Devils in free agency.

He’s clearly someone who is at least decent in net, but his issues might push the Devils to the trade market once and for all. So far, Kuemper has two very good performances in the Final and then two very bad performances. That might be what’s happening to Darcy Kuemper. The Colorado Avalanche’s starting goalie has been the difference in their losses.
