The Whitecaps are 2-5-3 all-time against New England, with the last game coming in July 2019. The Revs are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 6-5-5 record. He was rated one of the CPL’s top five players in 2019. In the latest CPL transfer abroad, York United have sold left back Diyaeddine Abzi to Pau FC in France’s Ligue 2. “(Making the final) means a lot. (Like) this York team today, that it’s not dominating the CPL, but they come here and do a very honest game against an MLS team. It was also his first goal in four games, when he scored as a substitute against Dallas. York had only surrendered seven goals in the regular season, and won both of its Canadian Championship matches on penalty kicks. On TFC just signed Italian legend Lorenzo Insigne to a contract that will make pay him $15M per year for five years, an MLS record. On a play near the end, with the Caps leading 1-0, and they failed to clear an easy ball: “I was of course on my toes. Tosaint Ricketts was the only other national outfield player in the 18, and came on in the 77th minute for White. We always knew it was going to be tough coming here … but proud of the effort my guys made today.”

Not content to roll over down 2-0, though, York did find a way back into the tie in the closing stages. The Whitecaps also produced a golden opportunity just before the half-hour mark, as Lucas Cavallini beat York’s offside trap and came in alone on goal, but Niko Giantsopoulos made a tremendous kick save to deny the Canadian international. York, meanwhile, entered with a similar team to recent weeks, based largely on player availability, as Max Ferrari continued on the right side and a fresh Cédric Toussaint (who was suspended in the CPL last weekend) slotted into midfield.
VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Whitecaps punched their ticket to the Canadian Championship final Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over York United.
FOOTNOTES: Giantsopoulos was briefly a member of the Whitecaps earlier this season. Vancouver finally snapped the scoreless deadlock in the 53rd minute when midfielder Ryan Raposo fired a shot from just outside the six-yard box. “We were able to make it close against a quality opponent that’s in a good moment right now. Diyaeddine Abzi put a shot around the wall and forced Cropper to make a diving save. ”Sometimes you need those as a goal scorer to get the ball rolling. “It just landed right in front of me and it was ‘Oh, thank you,“ White said. He acted as an emergency backup goalkeeper in Vancouver’s MLS game against Charlotte FC on May 22. “That’s the curse of the Canadian Championship,” Sartini said. So I’m real proud of the guys. “I think we could have got a result here,“ he said. “But luckily we live in a humanistic society where rationale is better than anything else. ”I think the goals were just a lack of communication and little errors on our part and they capitalized on it.

This will be the final game in a York jersey for dynamic left-back Diyaeddine Abzi who is heading to France when the European transfer window opens. Caicedo found his first MLS goal of the season with a fine free kick in Texas and hopefully he’ll start to find some more end product success as the year goes on. Alexandre is still a bit of a wildcard as we have yet to see much of him, while Berhalter has probably had a better season than Teibert to this point, but has a foot injury currently keeping him out. You’d think that Sartini’s ideal starting back three would be Blackmon, Godoy, and Ranko Veselinović, although Javain Brown has done well in the back three (better than as a wingback this season). Luckily for the ‘Caps it’s at home, where they have for the most part gotten results this season. A win on Wednesday night will send the ‘Caps to the Canadian Championship final for the first time since 2018.

Sports Talk Line’s independent sports journalism is a unique offering in the world of sports. All season ticket holders already have tickets to the match so it should be a good showing at BC Place. “We look forward to do a solid performance like we did in the first two games of the Canadian Championship.” Vanni Sartini said to the media on Tuesday afternoon. Here is what I could see for the Vancouver Whitecaps vs York United starting lineup. Lucas Cavallini has been in fine form of late scoring an early goal in Dallas after his stint with the Canadian National Team. He should start up top Wednesday night for the Whitecaps. Ryan Gauld came off the bench but Vanni Sartini noted he wanted his best 11 on the pitch so expect to see Gauld starting. This year has been different as the Whitecaps were able to get past Valour FC 2-0 before a shootout victory over the aforementioned Cavalry FC 5-3 in penalty kicks.

One area that does need improvement is the defense though, as the lack of natural centrebacks continues to plague Vancouver. Deep into the second half, Nerwinski was put into a spin cycle by Isaiah Johnston as York was able to pull one back and hope was renewed for the team from Ontario. For a couple of minutes there, it looked like the Whitecaps defense was going to collapse, but the team held on strong and were able to hold their one goal lead. The Whitecaps had domination of the game from the first whistle as they vastly outshot and outpossesed the team from Ontario. There was a fire from the Whitecaps in the first half that isn’t usually there as they searched to make the first move of the match and eventually they struck first in the second half by 2021 talisman Brian White. They then were able to take their foot off the gas and allowed York a little bit more possession and shots, which did lead to a scramble in the box but mostly just lead to York chasing after the Whitecaps players. This was no different when the Whitecaps took on York United from the CPL in the semi-finals of the Canadian Cup.

If you thought the last two Whitecaps matches were lacking late drama, then Wednesday's Canadian Championship semi-final was for you.
He coolly bangs home a rebound for his first goal and takes a volley off the bounce to knock home his second. If anything, the Whitecaps needed ball possession out of him to help protect the lead. In for Cava at 63’. Caicedo brought with him a fresh energy, showing for balls by quickly closing large gaps between himself and the ball-carrier. In for Raposo at 63’. Martins’ clearances were measured when helping out the back three, though his distribution had a bit too much oomph. No, his play did not result in either goal, but Cava’s ability to corral passes, either on the ground or in the air, all while keeping defenders at his back, was authoritative. He started finding ways to latch onto crosses from the wings, or became the one to run to the corner and whip in those crosses, as he had done on White’s second goal. Raposo was quick with his decisions on the ball and his crosses, both live and dead balls, were effective throughout. Quiet in the first half, though that had everything to do with the Whitecaps primarily attacking from the wings and less so through the middle. Dajome with space to run is a beautiful thing, whether its to receive a pass, with the ball already at his feet, or to open up the field for someone else. Instead, it was a matter of succinctly intercepting the telegraphed passes the York players were making. Dajome was better about it in the second half, but a higher caliber team than York would easily take advantage of the ‘Caps right side if it remains so laissez-faire. Though Vancouver controlled the match for long stretches, outshooting their opponents from Ontario 12-2 in the first forty-five minutes alone, they were finally rewarded for their efforts with a Brian White tally early in the second half.

So it’s safe to say, they’re looking forward to that game. Yet, that they were able to pull this off shows how much this team has changed as of late. Speaking of which, that’s something that the ‘Caps are warning fans of ahead of that clash – come to that game, but not for Insigne, as the hosts want as many of their faithful in the building to cheer them on in that final. You add in the fact that it’ll likely be one of the first games for Toronto’s big summer signing, Lorenzo Insigne, and there will be plenty of pomp and circumstance for that match, one that the Whitecaps are happy to be a part of. And now, they’ve got a game that could be club-defining for them now with Toronto FC, one that can both give them a much-needed trophy to add to their cabinet, as well as qualify them for the 2023 edition of the CONCACAF Champions League, all while getting one-up on a rival that has often gotten the better of them in the past. So for the seventh time in their history, they’ll get to contest the final of that tournament, giving them as good of a shot as they’ve had in a while to pick up their second-ever trophy as an MLS club, dating all the way back to when they won the 2015 edition of the Canadian Championship.
