Tony Siragusa, the nose tackle who played 12 NFL seasons with Indianapolis and Baltimore from 1990-2001, died Wednesday at the age of 55.

The New Jersey native also appeared as a member of Tony Soprano's crime family in multiple episodes of the HBO series The Sopranos, hosted a DIY Network show Man Caves and worked as a pitchman for brands such as Depends adult diapers. Siragusa stood out on Hard Knocks ahead of his final NFL season, but it was just the beginning of his on-camera success. Indianapolis happily signed Siragusa and watched him blossom into a consistent contributor, and although he never garnered postseason awards typical of a star, he certainly carried himself as one. "Goose was quite a character, but he was one of our leaders on the 2000 Super Bowl team," former Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement. "He was probably one of the best run-stoppers to play for our defense over the years. But he truly made his mark as a member of the Baltimore Ravens, tallying 159 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries and winning a Super Bowl in the 2000 season before becoming a fan favorite as a star of the first-ever Hard Knocks series in 2001.

He joined the media after retirement, serving as a Fox sideline reporter through the 2015 season. I knew he was someone who would change my life forever. Teaming with fellow wide body Sam Adams, Siragusa shut down rush lanes and tied up blocks in front of legendary middle linebacker Ray Lewis for the 2000 Ravens, arguably the most dominant defense the league has seen in the past four decades.

Ex-NFL DT Tony Siragusa, 'the Goose,' dies at age 55 (ESPN)

Former NFL defensive tackle Tony Siragusa, known during his playing career as "the Goose," has died at age 55.

"It was the scariest thing that's happened to me in my life." Said Siragusa: "[Defensive line] coach Rex Ryan came up to me and said 'You've got a family. "We appreciate everyone who has expressed an outpouring of support for our players, coaches and staff." The medical staff told Siragusa he had to at least have an MRI to make sure there wasn't spinal damage. Sharpe famously declared he wanted "restitution," and he stole Siragusa's truck in order to get an apology. As much as Siragusa relished the spotlight off the field, he was comfortable with doing the dirty work for one of the NFL's premier defenses, even though it led to countless knee surgeries and no Pro Bowl invitations. His mother came running down from the stands and his older brothers sprinted to the locker room where a golf cart had moved the motionless big man. "I saw Rich's eyes roll back," Siragusa said at the time. Affectionately known as "Goose," Siragusa served as a vital cog in the middle of the Baltimore Ravens' historic 2000 defense, which spearheaded the franchise's first Super Bowl title that same season. "This is a tough one," Lewis said. "We would not have won the Super Bowl without him. In the 2000 AFC Championship Game, Siragusa took out Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, driving the All-Pro into the turf and separating his left shoulder.

Tales of the Goose: Helicopter landings and no-holds-barred humor ... (ESPN)

Siragusa might not have made any Pro Bowls or the Ravens' Ring of Honor, but teammates attest to his legacy: Siragusa was a Hall of Fame character.

When Siragusa came into the NFL, he spent his entire $1,000 signing bonus from the Indianapolis Colts at a bar. When Simms said he wasn’t going to be intimidated, Siragusa asked Simms about the progress of his home being built in New Jersey. “I feel like I’m going to have to wake up and pinch myself because I’ve had so much fun in my career. The guy was a tremendous force in the locker room.” “I’m having tears in my eyes when they wheel him off the field. Then, I see him come back in the game and I’m thinking to myself: ‘What the hell is going on?’” And, as much as the Ravens organization mourns his death, teammates know Siragusa would want them to remember him with a smile. No one was safe from Siragusa. In 2001, he brought paint guns to training camp to harass rookies. He’d break the ice in the room. Siragusa arrived in a helicopter, which landed squarely on the 50-yard line. Siragusa endeared himself to teammates because he joked about everyone, including coaches. But, teammates heard he was planning to make a big splash.
