The government announced last week it would suspend random testing at airports for vaccinated travellers, with plans to move testing offsite by next month. In recent weeks, Toronto’s Pearson airport has had planes stuck at gates and hours-long security lines because of staffing shortages. Unvaccinated people departing from Canada will be allowed to travel, the source said.

The suspension follows the recent move to temporarily stop subjecting vaccinated travellers to random COVID-19 tests.

Last week, The Globe reported that the majority of Liberal MPs also wanted the domestic travel vaccine mandates lifted because they didn’t believe there was still a scientific rationale for them. However, a source said the government will not change the re-entry rules for travellers. Effective July 1, the random and mandatory re-entry tests will be conducted outside of airports.
