McIlroy missed a close-range birdie chance at the 15th and failed to get up and down from the greenside bunker to save par at the 16th, where Thomas scrambled a three to grab a share of the lead, only for the four-time winner to respond with a close-range birdie at the par-four next. A 40-foot birdie at the 12th was a sixth in seven holes for McIlroy to briefly move him three ahead with six to play, only for him to miss from three feet at the par-three next and see his lead cut to one again when Thomas birdied the 14th. Thomas went on a four-birdie run from the sixth to get to 14 under, while Finau match the PGA champion's birdies at the ninth to join Clark in a three-way tie for second, as McIlroy got up and down from a greenside bunker to pick up a shot on the same hole and reach the turn two ahead.

This year's installment has the added drama of the USGA allowing the golfers who have signed with LIV Golf to compete. He began Sunday with an eagle on No. 1 and didn't look back from there. At that point, it looked like McIlroy was relatively free and clear in first. He was three shots up and performing lights-out. While the RBC Canadian Open represents continued progress for Finau, the wait for his first win of 2022 goes on. Finau's fourth-place finish in the Charles Schwab Challenge was only his second top-10 on the PGA Tour this year. His par putt didn't find the mark, so he bogeyed the hole and fell to 16 under, giving McIlroy a two-shot advantage heading into the final hole. Finau's birdie added a bit more pressure but didn't alter the outcome. He hit his tee shot into a bunker and settled for a bogey. McIlroy, Thomas and Finau were separated by two shots with three holes left to play. He posted an eight-under 62 in the final round to finish at 19 under, two strokes better than Finau. pic.twitter.com/yhs8naqOr2

McIlroy continues to let it rip when it comes to discussing the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series and the man behind it all.

Making it even sweeter is the fact that McIlroy's 21 victories have come in a shorter timeframe, too, albeit a slightly shorter one. Of much more importance to McIlroy, though, was the fact it put him one win ahead of a certain Australian legend who may or may not be behind the LIV Golf series. If you recall, McIlroy called the series "dead in the water" back in February, which it appeared to be at the time considering Dustin Johnson, among others, had seemingly backed out at the last minute.
