NBA Finals: Warriors' Andrew Wiggins emerges as second star next ... (CBSSports.com)

Wiggins has been Curry's most reliable running mate on both ends of the court throughout the playoffs.

Though it doesn't happen often, Wiggins can reliably come to the rescue with isolation or post-up creation when his team needs him, as he did on this fadeaway in the first quarter of Game 4. This is nothing new for Wiggins, however, who has gone from a disappointing would-be franchise player as a No. 1 overall pick with the Timberwolves to an absolutely elite role player with a Warriors team that sits two wins away from its fourth NBA championship in eight seasons. He needs at least a couple of teammates to come along for the ride -- and if you look up and down the roster, Wiggins is the one who's been sitting shotgun with Curry at the wheel this whole time. It's clear that it's going to take at least two more herculean efforts from Curry if the Warriors are going to beat what looks like, on paper at least, a superior Celtics squad. But every once in a while, when the Warriors' offense collapses and the shot clock runs down, they need someone who can get a bucket. "I just want to win. On the next Warriors possession, Thompson hit a 3-pointer that gave Golden State a lead it wouldn't relinquish. He came crashing in from the weak side with reckless abandon for 13 defensive rebounds, and also came up with three offensive rebounds, none more important than this put-back on Jordan Poole's missed layup with just under five minutes remaining. At plus-20 for the night, he gracefully played Mercutio to Curry's Romeo performance of 43 points and 10 rebounds on 7-for-14 3-point shooting, as the Warriors pulled out a gritty, inspiring 107-97 win to tie the series at 2-2. Tatum is shooting just 50 percent in the restricted area during the Finals, compared to 68 percent in the regular season. After an 8-for-23 performance in Game 4, Tatum is now averaging 22.3 points in the Finals on 34 percent shooting. Stephen Curry, we knew, would bring it on a nightly basis, and he's exceeded expectations against the Boston Celtics so far with masterpiece after masterpiece.

Stephen Curry 'wills' Golden State Warriors to victory with 43 points ... (ESPN)

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry had what teammate Klay Thompson called his best Finals performance to date, scoring 43 points to lead the Warriors ...

"He was going to come out with that type of fire," Green said. Green added: "You just try to do what you can to help free him up to get him to his spots or open up some space for him to create and get to his spots. "The things he does we kind of take for granted from time to time," Thompson said. ... I think if everybody is forceful on the offensive end, and that means with cuts, that means crisp with your passes, then you allow him to be in the position to do what he does." But Curry outscored the rest of the Warriors' starters 43-39. He became just the fifth guard in NBA history to have at least 40 points and 10 rebounds in a Finals game. Kevon Looney, who came off of the bench for the first time this series, had 11 rebounds and finished with a plus-21 net rating. But it was Curry who carried them to the point when that shot could become the dagger. With just over a minute left in the game and the Warriors up three, Green grabbed the offensive rebound off a missed Thompson 3-pointer. "Felt like we just had to let everybody know that we were here tonight," Curry said. On Friday, he scored 10 in the final frame. BOSTON -- Stephen Curry isn't one to show tons of emotion throughout the course of a game.

5 takeaways from the Warriors' series-tying Game 4 victory in 2022 ... (NBA.com)

Stephen Curry captures the moment, Steve Kerr makes a crucial choice in the 4th and more thoughts as the Warriors retake homecourt advantage.

“Well, you have a group of guys who are going to be in the Hall of Fame someday: Steph, Klay, Draymond,” he said. There were times in that series when Tatum was the best player on a floor he shared with a two-time MVP and NBA champ (Giannis Antetokounmpo). Then against the Heat he closed out strong, averaging 28 points and 10 rebounds in the last two games. Coach Steve Kerr had a perfectly reasonable answer for the Warriors’ road success in the Steph Curry era. When two superior teams meet, the city and the name of the arena rarely is ever matters. Contrast this to the First Round Tatum, Second Round Tatum and the East Finals Tatum. It wasn’t too long ago when he had a career-defining 43-point masterpiece against the Bucks and in a two-game stretch had 80 points and another game with 13 rebounds. A few switches to get favorable matchups and jumpers followed, and the job was done, with 10 rebounds a bonus on the tally. It was a chilling sign for the Celtics, who were mostly helpless against the carnage done by Curry and his first 40-piece of the 2022 postseason. Otherwise, it was a mild effort by Green and a forgettable two-game stay in Boston, capped by a fourth-quarter removal. Oh, and doing this against a tough defensive team such as the Celtics, that’s a bonus, should Curry and the Warriors pull this off. Both were possible because Kerr sat Green for Kevon Looney midway through a tight fourth quarter — and perhaps as a result, the Warriors’ chances increased. Curry was in for an epic night, a defining night for him in the Finals, where in the past he hasn’t always been at his peak. So: About that left foot he and the raised red flags?

Game 5 Preview: Warriors vs. Celtics - 6/13/22 (Warriors.com)

The NBA Finals return to Chase Center for a pivotal Game 5 matchup between the Warriors and Celtics.

Marcus Smart, Derrick White and Al Horford also have had their moments offensively for the Celtics in the Finals, who as a team are shooting 49 percent in their wins and 39 percent in their losses. He’s averaging 34.3 points while shooting over 49 percent (both overall and on 3-pointers), and he’s made no fewer than five threes in any game in these Finals. Should he keep up at this pace, this will be Curry’s highest scoring performance in his NBA Finals career, and the third highest scoring postseason series overall. He’s averaging 3.0 blocks per game and has the second best average plus-minus rating (+5.0) among players who play at least 15 minutes a game in this series, trailing only Looney. The Celtics have been the best road team during this postseason, and they’ll need that to ring true at least one more time to keep their Championship hopes alive. AST: Tatum (6.2) Wiggins has been dealt the tough task of defending Boston’s All-NBA star Jayson Tatum. And just as he did against Luka Doncic in the Western Conference Finals, Wiggins is making Tatum work for everything he gets in The Finals. Tatum is averaging 22.3 points while shooting 34.1 percent from the field, down from the 27.0 points on 44.6 percent shooting he had through the first three rounds of the postseason. In fact, the Warriors have outscored the Celtics by a single point (422-421) through the first four games. Curry made seven threes in the game and Andrew Wiggins had 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the win, which tied the series up at 2-2. AST: Green (6.2) Stephen Curry had 43 points and the Warriors ended a tightly contested game with a 17-3 run to win Game 4, 107-97, in Boston on Friday night. The Warriors have won the third quarter in each of the first four games of the series and are a cumulative plus-49 in that period for the series, but Boston rode dominant fourth quarters to each of their wins in Games 1 and 3. AST: 27.2 (1st) The Dubs have gone 10-1 at home this postseason, and with three games at most left in the series, the Warriors can and will use any edge they can with each team two wins away from an NBA Championship. If Monday’s Game 5 plays out anything like the first four games, it will be decided in the second half, as the team who has won the second half has won each of the first four games in the series.

The Celtics would be on the brink of a title. The 43 points represented Curry’s second-highest total ever in a road playoff game.
