“Bullet” is also an adept grappler and it is a possibility that take the most efficient route to victory getting the fight to the ground. The key to a Santos victory will be to attack with leg kicks and make Shevchenko a less mobile target. She would drop a split decision in her promotional debut to Mara Romero Borella, but has since reeled off consecutive victories over Molly McCann, Gillian Robertson, Roxanne Modafferi, and Joanne Wood to become one of the division’s must-watch prospects. But “Bullet” sees that the time is right to turn her crosshairs on a different target: the bantamweight championship. With Nunes perhaps more vulnerable than in years prior with a recent loss or an opportunity to best Peña again, becoming only the second female two-division champion in UFC history feels like the right goal to pursue next. She has the power to take the lead on Saturday, adding a young contender to a resume that already lists Holly Holm, Julianna Peña, Katlyn Chookagian, Jessica Andrade, and others.
Zane Simon: It's not hard to see a lot of ways that Teixeira might be able to turn this fight in his favor. Prochazka loves to pressure with constant output and ...
A big part of that, however (and a remaining struggle) seems to be distance offense and whether or not his opponents have it. And it feels like a lot of his success has come from being a better grappler than the men he’s trying to take down. And while the grind is still there, the confidence in getting to it seems to be eroding. Like 80% of his game is clinch control and grappling without the slightest threat of a finish. That’s exactly the kind of wrestling game that works best for Matthews. Add in the quick turnaround for Fialho, and this feels like a disappointing loss. Zane Simon: I love Fialho’s UFC run to date, and I really like the set of skills he’s putting together behind a heavy power-punching game. Joanna’s takedown defense is exemplary and was so in the first fight, but just the threat of Zhang’s wrestling could throw off Jedrzejczyk’s rhythm and ability to get strikes off at will. I really think it’s in her nature to engage in a firefight after getting cracked, so I believe this will still be as fun as the last one. The division is getting better and the top prospects have shown a level of physicality and dynamic fighting ability that’s just not been prevalent in a lot of the top contenders over the years. The Bloody Elbow staff has made its picks for Saturday’s UFC 275 event in Singapore, and we’re predominantly picking Jiri Prochazka to take the light heavyweight title away from Glover Teixeira in the main event. Prochazka is a terrific athlete with fantastic vision, but if Glover can even just get on top of him and slow him down for a round, that might even things up enough to make this fight really interesting. Anton Tabuena: Prochazka isn’t as tested as the veteran champion and he can also get too wild at times, so I can see Teixeira finding opportunities to either counter with a big shot or land a takedown.

With Brazilian flyweight Rogerio Bontorin hospitalized following weight cut complications, his fight with Manel Kape has been scratched from UFC 275.
Bontorin (16-4, 1NC) has lost three of his last four fights, with one No Contest in the mix. We called Marcus, from the UFC staff, to check on him and we needed an ambulance to go to the hospital. Bontorin had been expected to compete in a main card fight with Manel Kape at the PPV event in Singapore this weekend.

Oddsmakers don’t think Jedrzejczyk will be able to finish her opponent – her only two stoppage wins in the UFC were both back in 2015 – but Jedrzejczyk by decision definitely carries value. This is a rematch of 2020’s fight of the year and one of the greatest title fights in UFC history. Jedrzejczyk hasn’t fought since a split decision loss to Zhang at UFC 248 more than two years ago. Shevchenko has closed as a -1100 favourite or longer in four of her past five outings. Oddsmakers are anticipating this fight to enter the fifth round. Shevchenko has gone through the the UFC women’s flyweight division like a buzzsaw. Santos is hoping to shock the MMA world in the same way Julianna Pena did as a +700 underdog against Amanda Nunes up at bantamweight earlier this year. If Teixeira can land takedowns and protect his chin he absolutely can retain his title. Since only eight of Teixeira’s 21 UFC bouts since 2012 have gone under 2.5 rounds there is some inherent value on that plus-money over. Can his height, reach and youth advantage combined with his power, pace, chin and unique movement overcome the veteran savvy of the current titleholder? The 29-year-old has knocked out his last 10 opponents and only one of those fights saw a third round. They occur on a continuum, and can affect a person's whole life.

Zhang and Jędrzejczyk first met at UFC 248 in March 2020, right before the pandemic began, and they produced a slugfest for the ages. The rematch is only a three-round bout, allowing both fighters to push even more aggressively if they choose. The UFC's delegation won’t include President Dana White, who is staying home for his son’s 21st birthday. Shevchenko will take on Brazil's Taila Santos in the seventh title defense for the seemingly unbeatable 125-pound champion. She has some holes in her game.' But once they step inside the octagon, they feel the opposite side. But I’m a fighter.
Most expect another battle when Zhang Weili and Joanna Jędrzejczyk fight again, but will time and experience lead to a different bout when they face off at ...
A new wrinkle is expected to come in the form of Zhang’s grappling as she may look to pursue takedowns more fervently to disrupt the offense of Jędrzejczyk. Jędrzejczyk is expected to use her multi-faceted attack once again, particularly mixing up her attack from the conventional to the unorthodox stance where she was able to have success in the first bout. Considering she now faces a potential murderer’s row of opponents in Zhang, Carla Esparza, Namajunas, Marina Rodriguez, and Mackenzie Dern, it is a fair question as staying at the top of such a division is a tall order for even younger contenders fresh in their prime. By her own admission, the delay in her return to competition was due to negotiating a new deal that coincides with her newfound fame and drawing power that makes her one of the most popular non-champions on the entire roster. But the time away has led to questions about Jędrzejczyk. For one, does she still have the drive to go through the grind of the fight game with so many new avenues now afforded to her? Coming off her career-defining victory (so far) against Jędrzejczyk, Zhang returned in April to be stopped in shocking fashion in the opening minute of her bout with Rose Namajunas. The former champion underwent reinvention going into the rematch, working with Fight Ready and former champion Henry Cejudo in Arizona but ultimately coming up short in a five round effort to reclaim the title. One can imagine the last year has felt quite different for Zhang Weili. After dropping her professional debut, “Magnum” reeled off an impressive 21 fight win-streak that saw her graduate from competing in her native China to the world stage of the UFC. In the Octagon, she bested the likes of Tecia Torres, Jessica Andrade, and Joanna Jędrzejczyk to become the best strawweight in the world and emerge as a celebrity in her own right back home.

Two underdogs on the main card have received the majority of the tickets and dollars in their respective clashes. Parlays has been a much different story, as Shevchenko has been the most popular leg by far for UFC 275. The biggest favorite on the card comes in the co-main event, which is another showdown for a title belt. So I’m not sure she’s deserving of a title shot right now. “Part of why Teixeira is an underdog here is his age, and also how he won the title,” said Brandon Yaeger, Lead UFC Trader at Caesars Sportsbook. “A lot of people really weren’t sold on his performance, and looking back at Teixeira’s performances before winning the title, he was kinda getting caught with some punches in a lot of those fights. I think a lot of that factors into the line.”
A permanent relocation up to bantamweight might be in the cards for the Ultimate Fighting Championship's Rogerio Bontorin.
As a result, Bontorin has not officially won a bout since 2019, when he forced the doctors to step in due to the damage he inflicted on Matt Schnellat 135 pounds in 2021, and although he won the fight by decision, he missed the bantamweight cap by a pound and went on to test positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic. Glover Teixeira's title victory was one of the feel good stories of 2022, but he will need to hold off both a younger challenger and Father Time once again ...
While a UFC title victory would be a career changing moment for Prochazka, he has admitted himself that he will need to approach his battle with Teixeira differently. The challenger will need to take a more disciplined approach and pick his spots to engage with Teixeira on the feet as to leave less openings to be taken down and let the champion wear him down. After going 4-4 between 2014 and 2017, it appeared for a time that his run may not be destined to end with a UFC title. Of course, he made them count as his promotional debut in 2020 saw him stop former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir in the second round. While Teixeira had put together a five fight win-streak to return to title contention, most still expected the knockout power and experience of champion Jan Blachowicz to give him plenty to deal with. “The Natural” needed all 25 minutes to win the belt back that night, but to many that fight ended then and there.

In the end, he’ll get a rare decision win and a ton of valuable experience. Della Maddalena has only once fought past the second round and it’s the bouts that go the distance that will give us a better gauge of where he stands in the loaded welterweight division. It’s going to be a standup battle, it’s going to have us on the edge of our seats, and there’s probably going to be some judging controversy after the eye-popping striking numbers are tallied. I did this for Jessica Andrade (I wasn’t the only one) and Lauren Murphy (I was one of the only ones) and I’m doing it again for Santos. Della Maddalena’s boxing is the first thing that jumps out at you when you watch the tape. When the fight breaks down into an all-out scrap, will Matthews default to his training or can he find that extra gear to push through Fialho’s power punching and answer with primal force? That said, Santos is going to give her a fight, possibly the toughest test she’s faced since winning the title. He has a huge speed and athleticism edge in the standup, so Teixiera will have to counter with fundamental boxing technique and guile to avoid a KO blow. Plus, anytime one fighter’s grappling defense is a question mark, I’m always going to favor the power of jiu-jitsu. Her first fight with Zhang Weili took an incalculable physical and mental toll on both women and while Zhang looked better in her second fight with Rose Namajunas, I have to wonder if she’s ever allowed herself time to truly recover. I’m in agreement with what UFC President Dana White said earlier this week: If Shevchenko runs through Santos like she has everyone else, I’ll be impressed and she should be allowed to fight for whatever title she wants. Should Teixeira get within grabbing range, the challenger should do everything in his power to create separation and reset in striking distance.

An absolutely stunning scene early on the UFC 275 card saw Silvana Gomez Juarez knock out Na Liang in violent, highlight reel fashion.
On the other hand, Na is now on a two-fight losing streak and will most likely be fighting for her job next time out. An overhand from Na landed, and then a few seconds later, Na shot for a takedown which Juarez defended. Meanwhile, Juarez had lost two straight after arriving in the UFC on a three-fight win streak.

It all goes down from Kallang, Singapore on Saturday night.
Sherdog's live UFC 275 “Teixeira vs. Prochazka” coverage will begin Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
Teixeira goes with a punch to the body and then kicks the head, and Prochazka replies with a body shot of his own. Prochazka tees off on Teixeira with punches and knees to the chin, and Teixeira powers through them and hunts for a single. Prochazka climbs on tight and absorbs a few more punches, and Teixeira uses the opportunity to spring to the side and snatch on to an arm-triangle choke. Prochazka jumps in the air with a knee, and Teixeira looks to catch him on the way down and take him down. Prochazka sprawls and gets up, and he fights off another takedown try from the Brazilian. Prochazka threatens with a front choke, but when that does not succeed, he has to try with everything he has to get some distance and not get put on his back. Prochazka nails his man with a right hand and jumps in the air with a flying knee, and Teixeira takes it on the chin and goes for a takedown. Emeev rolls all the way through to get Maddalena to the mat, and he lands in a way that he puts Maddalena on his back and looks for a side-naked choke of sorts. Culibao goes after a head kick of his own, and Choi breaks it up by rushing forward with a right to the head and a left to the body that whiffs. Choi goes high and low, and Culibao loads up with all he has to crack Choi with a left and a right that send Culibao crashing to the canvas. Santos pushes out with a front kick, and Shevchenko greets her with a slapping kick to the inside thigh. Choi swipes with a left hook and a low kick, and Culibao pops him with a right hand and left hook to reply. The Chinese fighter drops to a knee, and as she returns to her feet, Juarez greets her with a sweeping right and a devastating left that knocks her down to the floor in big trouble.Perceval sees that Liang might be totally out, and he intervenes, as Liang rolls to her back staring at the lights.

Weili Zhang did not leave it to the judges at UFC 275, stopping Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a spinning back fist to win their highly anticipated rematch.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Zhang fired a spinning back fist— and Jedrzejczyk hit the canvas! They continued to trade, and a massive “Weili” chant broke out at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. China’s Zhang fired a kick to the body. The Polish fighter was trapped against the fence, eating punches; she got back to her feet, but Zhang showed more of her newly honed wrestling skills, getting the fight down again. Lots of top time from Zhang; when they got up again, Jedrzejczyk appeared to nearly get the upper hand, but Zhang got her back down. It did, though it was a very different fight — one that didn’t require the full three rounds afforded to it. One of the most hotly anticipated rematches in years started off with Jedrzejczyk on the outside, using lateral movement, while Zhang tried to cut her off.
Zhang and Jedrzejczyk picked off right where they left off in what many crowned as 2020's Fight of the Year.
Jedrzejczyk stepped in and Zhang clobbered her with a spinning backfist. Jedrzejczyk face planted and Zhang walked away, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Jedrzejczyk shucked off a takedown attempt from Zhang but ate a stiff one-two combination. Jedrzejczyk rejected the idea and scrambled to freedom. The Chinese powerhouse scored multiple takedowns and punished Jedrzejczyk with ground-and-pound. Zhang wrapped up Jedrzejczyk against the fence and mauled her with strikes.
Valentina Shevchenko and Taila Santos went the distance in their UFC 275 co-main event, in what turned out to be a very close affair.
Santos had a body triangle in place, and got under the chin! Off the restart, Shevchenko landed a throw, had a headlock in place, but Santos rolled through and wound up on top, in guard. She’d finish the round in Shevchenko’s guard — and there was a good chance Taila Santos was up on the scorecards after two rounds. A big takedown followed for Santos. She transitioned to the back, but was high up, and had to be careful not to come off the top. She ripped a kick to the body, and fired a superman punch. Shevchenko had a whizzer in place, defending, and Santos fired knees to the thigh. The action was halted just seconds into the third, after Santos started the frame without her mouth guard. That left Santos with her back to the fence, and Shevchenko found room to land some knees. Shevchenko fanned on a front kick to open round two, and missed on a spinning kick as well. Santos went hunting for a neck crank or rear-naked choke, while the champ fought hands and fired punches back at Santos, doing a fair amount of damage given the angle. That missed; Santos closed the distance for a takedown, but Shevchenko reversed. Santos sat on the outside early as the UFC 275 co-main event got underway — but landed a counter after Shevchenko opened fire.
Zhang Weili came out on top of another action-packed slugfest versus Joanna Jedrzejczyk, this time with a wild knockout.

I want to be a businesswoman. I want to be a mom. Moments earlier, Shevchenko (23-3) was tested from the opening round by Santos, who won four straight fights to earn her first UFC title shot. The Chinese veteran left no doubt the second time, ending the bout with the spectacular spinning strike that ended it. Both fighters were bleeding from cuts in the third round, and Procházka also wobbled Teixeira in the middle rounds before his dramatic finish. Procházka survived nearly five rounds of consistent punishment from the 42-year-old Teixeira, who became a first-time UFC champion at 205lbs late last year.
The new champion also earned some star power with his style of fighting that leaves him in vulnerable positions.
The fact that Jedrzejczyk hadn't fought in two years seemed to catch up with her. Two of the three judges agreed that Shevchenko had won the second round, which opened the door for her to rally in the championship rounds by sweeping both on all three cards to steal the victory. The swing round in this case appeared to be Round 2 when Santos continued her success on the ground. Jedrzejczyk's five consecutive title defenses from 2015-17 remains the most successful reign in 115-pound history. Shevchenko, who briefly secured a triangle choke attempt on the ground, got the better of the standup that round and was also much busier offensively while her back was stuck to the ground. In just his third UFC fight, the 29-year-old native of the Czech Republic is now a champion. Either way, it's a fight fans won't soon forget as each warrior was willing to persevere through extreme damage and fatigue until an uncharacteristic mistake from Teixeira in Round 5 led to his heartbreaking defeat while ahead on two of three scorecards (with the third one even). This fight had a shocking ending similar to Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen I yet was much sloppier and frenetic than most great title bouts as technique largely went out the window in this veritable street fight. But it's the incredible intangibles he employed in rallying to victory that will keep them coming back to the turnstiles to watch him compete. Meanwhile, in the co-main event, women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko was forced to rally and hang on for a disputed split-decision win against Taila Santos. From an action standpoint alone, Prochazka's submission win with just 28 seconds to go in the final round easily belongs alongside Jon Jones-Alexander Gustafsson I, Zhang-Jedrzejczyk I and Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard II as the best championship tilts in the 29 years UFC has been in business. Thanks to his willingness to so often go against the grain of what is considered the orthodox norm in this sport, it's very likely no one will.
Zhang Weili scored one of the best KOs of 2022, putting out Joanna Jedrzejczyk with an insane spinning backfist at UFC 275.

Jiří Procházka made Glover Teixeira tap out. In the process, he becomes the new light heavyweight champion.
Shevchenko quickly worked her way back to her feet, then executed a takedown of her own, finishing the fight in a dominant position. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Teixeira dropped Procházka with a left hook, and he held Procházka down for the remainder of the round. Incredibly, Teixeira took shots to the face and body in order to set up the takedown. Since then, Weili lost consecutive bouts to Rose Namajunas. This will be Jędrzejczyk’s first fight since the loss to Weili. And with new women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza seeking fresh opponents, this is a bout with significant consequences for Weili and Jędrzejczyk. That was the case until Procházka locked in a rear naked choke in the fifth round. Santos took Shevchenko’s back in the opening round after a scramble, which is an unfamiliar sight. The victory puts Weili back into a title bout for the strawweight title, as well as marked the end of Jędrzejczyk’s career. Zhang Weili came out on top of another action-packed slugfest versus Joanna Jedrzejczyk, this time with a wild knockout.
