'Joker 2' is happening and somehow is not called 'Joker-er' (Vanyaland)

If you heard a cacophony of deafening chirps after finishing your dinner Tuesday night, don't worry: This ain't Hitchcock and you don't have to worry about ...

Maybe people will just judge this on its merits and refrain from hysterical hyperbole for the sake of clicks and likes. Maybe the cultural temperature has cooled enough for people not to make a moral panic out of a comic book movie. Similarly to IGN, we’re thinking this might have something to do with Batman. We can hear the “No, duh,” coming from each of you right now, but it’s more likely than Harley Quinn, given that the last film directly concerned our boy Bruce watching his parents get gunned down for something like the 80th time on screen.

In 2023, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash will both come to theaters. But it would have to have a real thematic resonance the way this one did, ultimately being about childhood trauma and the lack of love, and the loss of empathy. In the meantime, Warner Bros. is going to continue building out the DCEU with sequels and origin stories in the coming years. As such, there was never much doubt that Warner Bros. would find a way to get a sequel off the ground with the same creative team. Phillips has returned to write and direct, Phoenix is back in the titular role, and Joker co-writer Scott Silver once again helped pen the script. Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) suffered from a neurological disorder causing him to laugh uncontrollably in the first movie.

Fans Desperate for 'Joker 2' to Be Based on Willem Dafoe's Pitch (We Got This Covered)

Willem Dafoe once pitched a hypothetical 'Joker' sequel starring himself, so you can guess what fans want to see.

Dafoe has been fan-cast as the Joker since the 1980s, and some folks will never give up that ghost. Having made his screen debut in 1980, the actor has spent over 40 years establishing himself as cinema’s crown prince of bug-eyed mania, launching more memes that Morbius in the process. Since the beginning of 2020, the 66 year-old has shown up in the acclaimed Nightmare Alley, The French Dispatch, The Card Counter, and The Northman, while he came perilously close to stealing the show when he returned as Norman Osborn in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and he’s not even done with the superhero genre with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom coming next year.

Joker 2 Is Happening And It Has A Terrible Title (GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT)

It looks like Joker 2 is happening with Joaquin Phoenix returning to the role. But the title they gave the sequel is really something.

It’s not difficult to see where this is going with Joker 2 considering the mental illness at the heart of the first film with Joaquin Phoenix and the background of the character in general. And considering, at least for now, it sits outside the other Warner Bros. and DC properties that include the DCEU as well as the most recently released The Batman which has its own budding universe, it’s even more impressive that this film has made a world of its own. The rumor mill has been turning lately with more and more buzz about Joaquin Phoenix returning for Joker 2, an anticipated followup to the surprise 2019 blockbuster that kicked things off in this budding franchise.

That is enough proof that Joaquin Phoenix will return to play Arthur Fleck and his alter ego Joker. The Joker film introduced us to Arthur Fleck, a struggling comedian, and a clown. Another interesting detail the film adds is that this reiteration of Artur Fleck has a strange laughing condition. This detail could be a starting point for Joker 2, given that the first film ended with Arthur Fleck wreaking havoc in a facility. Todd Phillips confirms that the 2019 blockbuster film Joker will return for its sequel in his recent Instagram post.
