Latest Fleet and Network Update With TAP Air Portugal CEO (Sam Chui)

The latest update of fleet and network from TAP Air Portugal CEO. The airline will operate its entire fleet this summer as the national carrier prepares to ...

“We are willing, because there are some routes which are successful,” Ourmières-Widener said. It is not only ideal as a hub for North and South America but “Lisbon should be even more connected to Africa,” she said. “We want to be part of it,” she said. “The A321LR is an amazing aircraft, and we are exploring for next summer what kind of destinations it could serve,” Ourmières-Widener said. And we are looking at how to reinforce our organizational setup to make sure we are doing everything when an aircraft is not able to be operational, for example in terms of maintenance,” Ourmières-Widener said. But with more airlines worldwide looking for new markets, other carriers are also aiming for a wider footprint in Africa. The TAP CEO acknowledges the growing competition, “but I think people always underestimate what [Africa] means from an operational standpoint [for an airline] and also organization,” she said. “And we are reinforcing our team in Brazil with a new general manager.” The additional aircraft will be second-hand E1s. “The E1 is the right size“, she said. “The A330-900 is the right aircraft, but one issue is the reliability of the engine. We are discussing with Rolls-Royce what we have to solve.” But we are working hard with Rolls-Royce and Airbus to improve the availability of the aircraft,” she said. “But we are also having discussions with suppliers, the chain around the fleet.

This 52-year-old early retiree left the U.S. for Portugal with his family ... (CNBC)

In 2015, Alex Trias quit his six-figure job and retired early at 41 in Portugal. Now, he and his wife live off their retirement savings and passive income ...

I try to build downtime into my day and spend a lot of time in nature. Plus, our property tax bill in Portugal is a fraction of what we paid in the U.S. He and his wife and daughter have been living in Portugal since 2015. And we never bother with hats or gloves in the winter. In Lisbon, we rarely use an air conditioner in the summer. Living abroad has completely changed our outlook and priorities in life. I once had an overnight emergency room visit that involved multiple tests and consultations; the entire cost was covered by our insurance, and I paid nothing other than my co-pay. "Bem educado" means "polite" in Portuguese, which comes as very high praise. One of our biggest monthly expenses is dining out at restaurants. Our favorite Portuguese bargain: Multiple bags of fresh fruits and vegetables. We've been living here for about six years now, and we're nowhere near ready to leave. My wife joined me in retirement four years later after quitting her job as a nurse.
