All of these circumstances, he claims, would leave the Aurora to the “mercy” of a nearby fighter aircraft pilot’s competence. “The best they can do is fly along and hope the Chinese fighter pilot disappears.” Flynn went on to say that the fighter jet’s turbulence would put the Aurora pilot at even greater risk of losing control. You do it too much, and eventually, sometime, it’s going to go wrong.” “It’d be terrifying for (the Aurora pilot) to do any kind of evasive maneuver because they might trip the Chinese fighter pilot into doing something even more irresponsible and more dangerous,” he told Global News. The Canadian government has issued repeated diplomatic reprimands to Beijing in response to the incidents, describing the Chinese pilots’ actions as “unsafe and unprofessional.” But, Beijing is believed to have remained silent on these incidents. The events are “of concern and increasing frequency,” according to a spokesperson for the Department of National Defense. “In some instances, the (Canadian) aircrew felt sufficiently at risk that they had to quickly modify their flight path to increase separation and avoid a potential collision with the intercepting aircraft,” the spokesperson said.

Canada says China harassing its aircraft near North Korea (Aljazeera.com)

Canada says pilots put 'at risk' by Chinese warplanes on missions to monitor North Korean sanctions evasions.

“These interactions are unprofessional and/or put the safety of our RCAF [Royal Canadian Air Force] personnel at risk.” Canadian Armed Forces said in a statement on Wednesday the Chinese planes have at times flown so close they forced Canadian pilots to quickly change course to “avoid a potential collision with the intercepting aircraft”. The Canadian military has accused Chinese warplanes of harassing its pilots during United Nations sanctions patrols along the border with North Korea to monitor evasions.

Canada says Chinese jets put pilots 'at risk' (ABS-CBN News)

Canada's military has accused Chinese airforce pilots of unprofessional and risky behavior during their recent encounters in international airspace.

The ships had been shadowed by several Chinese vessels and aircraft as they transited through the maritime region. In June 2019, two Canadian naval vessels were "buzzed" by Chinese fighter jets when they sailed through the East China Sea. "These interactions are unprofessional and/or put the safety of the (Royal Canadian Air Force) personnel at risk."

"The aircrews in several PLAAF aircraft are very clearly visible as they approach and attempt to divert our patrol aircraft from their flight path," Canada's military said. There was no statement from the Chinese side at the time of publication. "Such interactions, which occur in international airspace during UN-sanctioned missions, are of concern and of increasing frequency. "In these interactions, PLAAF aircraft did not adhere to international air safety norms. In some instances, the RCAF aircrew felt sufficiently at risk that they had to quickly modify their own flight path in order to increase separation and avoid a potential collision with the intercepting aircraft," said the June 1 statement. Canadian pilots "sometimes see them raising their middle fingers."

According to Global News, before each mission, pilots and their commanders discuss potential risks and whether to proceed with a flight. China has increased its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region over the last two years, particularly around Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own territory. It can also assist other government agencies to combat, illegal fishing, pollution, drug trafficking, and more.

Canada protests after aircraft 'buzzed' by Chinese jets (Radio Free Asia)

Air force fighter planes flew as close as 20 feet to maritime patrol aircraft risking collision, report says.

The U.S. airplane had to make an emergency landing on China’s Hainan island and its 24 crew members were detained for 11 days before being released. “Buzzing” means flying extremely close and fast. A U.S. Navy P-3C Orion surveillance aircraft and a Chinese military surveillance aircraft came within 1,000 feet (305 meters) of each other in the skies over the South China Sea in 2017. The network quoted anonymous sources in the Canadian government and military as saying the government lodged “multiple” diplomatic complaints with Beijing for what they called the “unsafe and unprofessional conduct” of the Chinese pilots. A spokesperson for the Canadian Department of National Defence was quoted as saying that the incidents are “of concern and of increasing frequency.” On these occasions the Chinese jets came as close as 20 to 100 feet (six to 30 meters) to the Canadian plane, according to a report Wednesday in Canada’s Global News.

Citing the China Earthquake Networks Center, state news agency Xinhua reported that the epicentre was at a depth of 17 kilometres. A shallow 6.1-magnitude quake hit a sparsely populated area in Sichuan province about 100 kilometres (60 miles) west of provincial capital Chengdu, broadcaster CCTV said. The US Geological Survey said that the quake registered a magnitude of 5.9 and was more shallow, occurring at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 miles). The United States said the test was a brazen violation of a unanimous UN resolution in 2017 that warned of further consequences for tests of long-range missiles or nuclear weapons. At times, Chinese planes tried to divert Canadian aircraft from their flight path and flew so close that the crew was "very clearly visible," the statement read. In some instances, the Canadian crew had to quickly modify their flight path to "avoid a potential collision with the intercepting aircraft," the statement read.

Canada says China 'buzzing' military flights in Asia (BBC News)

Canadian military aircraft operating in Asia have been repeatedly "buzzed" by Chinese jets at dangerously close distances, Ottawa says.

Mr Le Bouthillier added that in some instances, Canadian aircrew felt "sufficiently at risk" to quickly modify their own flight paths to avoid potential collisions. A state-owned Chinese newspaper later described the incident as a "warm welcome" for the Canadian forces by China's navy and air force. Similar Chinese behaviour has been reported in the past by Canadian, US and other allied aircraft and vessels operating in the Pacific.
