Kyle Lowry struggling in playoffs makes Raptors trade look better (Raptors Rapture)

Miami Heat PG Kyle Lowry struggling in the playoffs only confirmed that the Toronto Raptors moved off the Hall of Fame legend at the best possible time.

In fact, the 36-year-old Lowry started to show his age in a very concerning way against Boston. While Lowry was solid in the regular season, averaging 13.4 points and 7.5 assists per game, it will be hard for Heat fans to forget the Boston series. Not only did Lowry fail to make the Finals, but it came in an embarrassing fashion.

Surely, it’s a tough pill to swallow after such an exciting and hard-fought playoff run. Of course, the loss left a bad taste in the mouths of Heat players and fans alike. In the 10 playoff games that he played this season, he averaged just 7.8 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.

A look at Kyle Lowry's postseason, which included a hamstring injury and poor shooting. And notes on Tyler Herro and more.

But these guys were so committed to the challenge that they are willing to do whatever it took to get themselves out there and compete and really compete at a high level physically. “He can get it going in a hurry. “If it was the regular season, there was no chance he would have played. It just shows you the mental toughness of the guys in the locker room.” You don’t know how many more opportunities you will have to get back to this, so for me, honestly it was a waste of a year. I think Tyler would have helped in this series, to be able to have another playmaker, a guy that could get into those gaps and make those plays in between that are not necessarily scripted or play call actions. We had guys that the day after the season were getting surgeries. “I wish I would have been able to play a little bit better, at a higher level, but I didn’t,” Lowry said. ▪ Tyler Herro’s absence was felt in this series. “I was out there playing. But for me, it’s a waste of a year. You’re... not winning a championship, it’s a wasted year.”

Kyle Lowry wasn't pulling any punches after his Miami Heat were eliminated from the Eastern Conference Finals in Game 7 on Sunday night.

So it was fun, and I appreciate the guys, my teammates and I appreciate the opportunity but for me, it was like a waste of a year. We look forward to the opportunity of getting better over the summer and getting back to this opportunity.” You’re not winning a championship, it was a waste of a year.” Finishing this season with 53 wins and the top seed in the Eastern Conference, the Heat are expected to be among the NBA’s top teams once again. “And so for me personally, honestly, it was a waste of a year. “My personal life has been a bit different for me this year, but I’m given an opportunity to play basketball, and anytime I get a chance to play I’m really happy to do it.

Former Toronto Raptors great Kyle Lowry calls his first year with the Miami Heat a 'waste' after being eliminated in the playoffs by the Boston Celtics.

You're not playing for a championship -- you're not winning a championship, it's a wasted year." But for me, it's a waste of a year. For the series, he averaged just 9.4 points on 28.6% shooting, scoring three points total in games four and five combined.

“I wish I would have been able to play a little bit better, at a higher level, but I didn’t,” Lowry said during the postgame press conference, refusing to offer any excuses for his poor performance on the nagging hamstring injury. But for me, it’s a waste of a year. Lowry, who missed eight of the Heat’s playoff games due to a hamstring injury, was even worse from beyond the arc, shooting 13-of-54, a 24.1% accuracy.

3 reasons Heat must try to acquire a Kyle Lowry upgrade after ... (ClutchPoints)

The Heat nearly reached the NBA Finals, but Kyle Lowry really struggled in the playoffs. Should Miami try to find an upgrade?

While he can still be effective as a complementary piece, the Heat cannot afford to rely on Kyle Lowry as a primary option. However, if the Heat are truly looking to make the championship jump, they must address making upgrades. If the Heat can flip Lowry for an improved offensive point guard, they could find their missing piece. The franchise outperformed most expectations that were set for them by a great deal. Lowry put up 13.4 points per game in the regular season and 7.8 in the postseason. The 2021-22 season was a great success for the Miami Heat. Their 53-29 record secured first place in the East. They also were just one game short of heading to the NBA Finals after their Game 7 loss. However, on offense he is unable to fill the role that is expected. The lack of star power and offensive ability was one of the most noteworthy takeaways from the Heat in these playoffs. Lowry did not prove to be the postseason solution the franchise had hoped for and struggled throughout while also missing time with a hamstring injury. Attempting to upgrade at the point guard position to find a guy closer to his prime would benefit the team greatly. Miami elected to hand Lowry a three-year, $85 million contract in a deal. Lowry came to the Heat in a sign-and-trade agreement this past offseason.

Rather than return to Toronto, where he established roots and became the greatest player in Raptors history, Kyle Lowry left for the Heat in free agency.
