“I didn’t have a sign, I didn’t have a megaphone, and in fact, I have no history of being disruptive at events.” “There was nothing at all to suggest that I was there to protest,” Sa’d said. “I’m very surprised to hear that statement from Hamilton police, because I made all of this abundantly clear.”

Hamilton police say they have charged a 33-year-old woman with trespassing after a protest against Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford.

Police and Sa'd agree that she was moved off the property and released with a ticket for trespass to property. Lawyer Caryma Sa'd said she is the person who was arrested at the airport. "I was not part of any protest group," Sa'd said in an interview. A hotly-controversial decision on whether or not to freeze base funding for police in Edmonton was delayed Friday as fallout from a dispute between the mayor and the provincial justice minister continued to rattle political circles. A shelter many expected to remain open until the end of June in Wetaskiwin, Alta., will close a month early. A lawyer for families of victims killed in the Nova Scotia mass shooting says an 18-hour delay in finding five bodies of those murdered is a sign of "deficient" policing. The London Police Service is requesting the public’s help with locating a person of interest after a gun was fired on Richmond Row in the early morning hours of Friday. The Region of Waterloo says there's a high safety risk at a Kitchener encampment and they are working with residents to prepare them for their eventual move. The Ontario Provincial Police is closing its detachment in the town of Black River-Matheson. The building is approximately 90 years old and is located in Matheson on Railway Street. Canada has tapped into its own strategic stockpile of emergency medical supplies -- stored for a national emergency -- to help Ukraine. It has donated over 375,000 items of medical equipment and medicines from Canada's strategic stockpile since the invasion by Russia began. She said she intends to fight the ticket in court. "I made that clear to everyone I spoke with, that I was attending the rally simply to document in my capacity as an interested resident of Ontario."

Seklly referred to Hamilton’s plans as “ anti-housing.” The land in Hamilton that has been protected from development is within the Flamborough—Glanbrook riding. Numerous Black community organizations called for a judicial inquiry into HPS officer conduct on those days, while also calling for the charges to be dropped. Members of anti-sprawl climate justice groups were also demonstrating at the event. Several media outlets reported that the nurse suffered a brain injury (commonly called a concussion). The event was in the Flamborough—Glanbrook riding. In Hamilton, there was community outrage last fall after HPS officers arrested six housing advocates, five of whom are Black, after they protested the removal of unhoused people who had built encampments in a downtown park. Donna Skelly is running for re-election for the PCs in the rapidly urbanizing riding. Hamilton Police said shortly before 9 p.m. that they “ charged a 33-year-old female with trespassing,” and gave her a ticket. “A protest subsequently formed outside the premises and eventually moved onto private property, blocking the road to the Cargojet facility,” HPS said. All individuals complied but one individual refused to move and was arrested. “It had my name on it,” Sa’d told a male security guard. A video posted to Sa’d’s popular @CarymaRules Twitter account drew over 120,000 views within one hour and 40 minutes of being posted on Thursday night.

Toronto lawyer says she's 'shaken up' after arrest outside Doug Ford ... (CBC.ca)

Hamilton police arrested and ticketed a Toronto-based lawyer for trespassing near a Progressive Conservative campaign stop on Thursday, but Caryma Sa'd says ...

Sa'd acknowledged that while the facility is private property, the rally was a public event. He added that his group of protesters were asked to move even when they were on public property outside the facility. "It is wrong and inappropriate to arrest a journalist, even though they may be citizen journalists, at a political event," he said. Don Mclean, a member of the group, said he watched the arrest and corroborated Sa'd's account. She said someone from Ford's team asked her to leave and called the police when she refused. The person appears to be wearing an in-ear headset, but their affiliation is unclear. Sa'd said she's a bit "shaken up" by the event and isn't sure if she'll attend others in the future. Sa'd said she wasn't part of a protest but was there to document the event. She's known for creating cartoons and videos that criticize politicians and people protesting public health measures. "I'll wait for the police," Sa'd said in the video. A video posted on Twitter by Sa'd appears to show the conversation in front of the Cargojet facility before her arrest. Sa'd said she has been asked to leave Ford events in the past and this time RSVP'd to attend the event.

Hamilton police have charged a 33-year-old woman with trespassing after an incident during a campaign rally for Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford.

Lawyer Caryma Sa'd arrested at Doug Ford rally in Hamilton (rabble.ca)

Toronto lawyer Caryma S'ad was arrested at an event held for Doug Ford, however, she had a ticket to attend the event.

Hamilton Police deny her entry to the event in that video, during which Sa’d also claims to have a printed invitation in hand. Last Monday, May 17, S’ad was present in Toronto when security personnel and police officers clashed with protesters outside of the Television Ontario (TVO) studios during the leaders debate. Having reviewed the footage, I don’t understand why there was a physical encounter or handcuffing,” said Sa’d. “I don’t think the matter was handled appropriately, in that it shouldn’t have escalated to physicality. I was an invited guest trying to understand who revoked my permission to attend and why,” Sa’d said. In an interview with rabble.ca, Sa’d said: “I wanted to attend Doug Ford’s rally because it’s an extension of the political satire and public legal education work that I enjoy sharing online. Based in Toronto, Sa’d is a lawyer who frequently represents tenants who are participating in housing litigation.
