Flames Missing Tanev's Shutdown Style in a Massive Way (The Hockey Writers)

Connor McDavid has been torching the Calgary Flames through three games, making Chris Tanev's injury all the more frustrating.

He’s been a very active and reliable source for nearly two years at The Hockey Writers. He is a credentialed writer for the Calgary Flames but also does features on other teams throughout the league. If he and the Oilers are able to start converting on the power play as they did over the course of the regular season, his numbers could improve even further. The issue for them hasn’t been a lack of goals, but rather their inability to keep the Oilers off the board, and McDavid in particular. He not only led the Flames this past season in terms of ice time on the penalty kill but also averaged over 17 minutes per game at even strength. With that said, however, this Edmonton Oilers team is far more dangerous, as they are not only led by the best player on the planet in Connor McDavid but have several other offensive weapons in players like Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane. By no means are they finished, as they proved in the first round over the Dallas Stars that they are a very resilient bunch.

Veteran defenceman Christopher Tanev gutted out a tough performance for the Calgary Flames on Tuesday in the heat of the Battle of Alberta.

“There’s a reason why he’s a leader on our team and I think he showed that tonight. “It’s great to see him in the room. “We hope to see him back next game, too. Understandably, he wasn’t credited with a hit. He showed a lot of heart tonight. He’s just an unbelievable guy, honestly.”
