Calgary winger Tyler Toffoli then took a tripping penalty and the Oilers made the visitors pay when Hyman outmuscled a hobbled Chris Tanev — back in the lineup for the first time since Game 6 of the opening round despite a suspected upper-body injury — in tight to bury his fifth goal of the series and seventh of the playoffs at 9:53. Markstrom, who had allowed 14 goals in the series before getting pulled after two periods with Calgary trailing Sunday's Game 3 by a 4-0 score line, played the puck behind his own net on the first shift, but put it right on Nugent-Hopkins' stick for him to bury his third inside a deafening arena. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his second goal of the night with 3:27 left in regulation as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames 5-3 on Tuesday to take a 3-1 lead in the teams' second-round playoff series.

“Every game you play in the playoffs, you gain experience,” Smith said. Calgary showed some life on slick power play in the second with Kane off for slashing. This time, they took a stranglehold on the series without their best effort. “The main thing was that we had to keep pushing,” Nugent-Hopkins said after Rasmus Andersson scored short-handed from 150 feet away as Calgary rallied all the way back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game. “I can laugh now, right?” a relieved Smith said. We’ve just got to go home and focus on winning one game and take it from there.

He scored his third. “You don’t want that to happen ... ever. We’ve just got to go home and focus on winning one game and take it from there. “There’s room for greatness from everybody on our team. “Stuff like that happens, it’s hockey. After trailing 3–0 after the first period and 3–2 through two periods, Calgary tied the game in the third on an Edmonton power play when Andersson fired a 150-foot clearing attempt from his own end that somehow fooled Smith at 10:56. Nugent-Hopkins scored his second goal of the game with 3:27 left in regulation, and the Oilers beat the Calgary Flames 5–3 to take a 3–1 lead in the second-round playoff series.

Edmonton — How long has the Edmonton Oilers been committed to winning a game like this? A number of “lessons learned” were born along the way.

This is the first of three chances Edmonton may have to finish this series. Every game you win, you get confident and you get the ball We want to keep rolling and do good things to make our team successful. In games like this, there are enough solutions on the bench to find the answer. “I think we’re all stepping up tonight,” said Newgent Hopkins. “Every game is a team game, we know it. “Ryan Newgent Hopkins was the first draft to be elected for some reason,” said head coach Jay Woodcroft. “He’s a big player. “There is a decline and flow into the game, the series,” started goalkeeper Mike Smith. “It’s never perfect. As the Alberta battle shifted south in Game 5 on Thursday, Edmonton won 5-3, hanged the Northerners in the 3-1 series, and the longest Oilers scored two goals. It was Ryan Newgent Hopkins who gave the homeside a free score that Calgary Flames simply couldn’t find in the series where the Oilers were accused of being a single team. Shouldn’t Calgary be a deeper team here and have better goaltending and a stiffer blue line? The nugget achieved the big goal of signing a contract. A number of “lessons learned” were born along the way. Did no one have it to find the goal that gave them another lead when the 3-0 lead was lost?

Edmonton Oilers Vs Calgary Flames- Game 4 Morning After (Oil On Whyte)

The Edmonton Oilers were able to walk out of Rogers Place with a 5-3 win last night against the Calgary Flames. The Oilers are now up 3-1 in the series.

The Oilers need to snuff the Flames out. I really liked how the Edmonton Oilers came out a played in that game 4. Late in the third period, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins restores the Edmonton Oilers lead. I would have liked Nurse to put some pressure on him, but if he does that the play on the side of the net has a chance on a pass. In the second period the Calgary Flames were able to get themselves back in the game. Last night the Edmonton Oilers got off to a quick start when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins put the puck in a wide open net after Jacob Markstrom fumbled a dump-in.

The Day After: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins proved the Oilers aren't just a ... (Oilers Nation)

Edmonton will always remember Game 4 as the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins game, a well-deserved moment in the sun for a player who quietly does so many things so well ...

In the second round against Anaheim, they again had a 2-1 series lead and a chance to put the Ducks down 3-1, but blew a 2-0 first period lead and wound up losing in overtime. They took the Kings lightly in the first round, both in Game 1 and in Game 4. Nugent-Hopkins had his biggest game as an Oiler in Game 4, scoring the opening goal and then the game-winner with minutes left on the clock. Edmonton will always remember Game 4 as the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins game, a well-deserved moment in the sun for a player who quietly does so many things so well for this team. Every game you win, you gain confidence from and you want to keep that ball rolling and doing the good things that make our team successful. While we all would have loved to see a top-to-bottom spanking like the one the Oilers handed out in Game 3, it was impressive to see the team be resilient and edge out a difficult win as the Flames put forward a much better effort. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored 21 seconds into the game to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead and then Zach Hyman and Evander Kane scored to put the Oilers up by three goals before the end of the first frame. “The main thing was that we had to keep pushing. With just over three minutes left in the game, Nugent-Hopkins scored on the power-play to restore Edmonton’s lead. He does a lot of really subtle things really well and makes us a deeper team.” – Jay Woodcroft on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Every game is a team game, we know that. That didn’t happen with the Flames on Tuesday night.

The battles to watch in Oilers-Flames as Calgary tries to save its ... (thescore.com)

Edmonton's five best forwards have taken over the Battle of Alberta. Kane, Draisaitl, McDavid, Zach Hyman, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins have scored 16 of the Oilers' ...

On the Calgary side, Dillon Dube has been held to one assist and fanned on a promising one-timer Tuesday after netting 18 goals this season. His save percentage for the series is .850, much worse than his .943 mark against Dallas and the .922 figure that landed him a Vezina Trophy nomination. The Los Angeles Kings picked off one of his outlet passes to net a game-winner. The Flames' irresponsibility enabled Kane to pot his Game 3 hat trick. Draisaitl set up Hyman to score on the ensuing rush. He scored 3.58 points per 60 minutes in the regular season, 2.83 against the Dallas Stars in Round 1, and 2.27 so far versus Edmonton. McDavid and Draisaitl have been superb, and Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk are running out of time to measure up. Against Calgary, though, Smith sprung Draisaitl for a breakaway goal and looked formidable for long stretches of play. Oliver Kylington got caught standing flat-footed behind Nugent-Hopkins as he banged in the decisive rebound. But if an opponent wants to achieve this, they have to be prudent, get back in transition, and get in his way. It hasn't mattered that the power play's scuffling at 3-for-19 (15.8%) or that Draisaitl has a banged-up ankle: thanks to his visionary playmaking, he has 13 points in four games to McDavid's 11. Expect these four battles to decide if the Oilers advance or the Flames manage to prolong their season. Calgary stuck tighter to McDavid in Game 4, stifling one of his rushes via Erik Gudbranson's knockdown.
