Fernandez made it 5-5 and then raced past a stunned Mladenovic who lost her serve to make it 6-5 and then bowed out at 7-5. Kristina Mladenovic is far off her best and this match was perfect for Fernandez to get her feet wet and build some confidence. The opening set was a proper confidence-builder for her as she smashed her opponent with fierce shot-making that resulted in a bagel.
