Last month in an interview backstage at Coachella, Japanese Breakfast told NME: “This year is about enjoying myself. Japanese Breakfast made her Saturday Night Live debut last night (May 21) on the show’s season 47 finale – watch her play ‘Be Sweet’ and ‘Paprika’ below.

Tonight marked the Saturday Night Live finale, and that allowed Japanese Breakfast to have some time in the spotlight as the musical guest.

There was a sadness to the end of the show tonight, which makes some sense given the goodbyes we watched throughout the night. The thing that stood out most to us as a viewers was how enthused Zauner seemed to be performing on the stage. Almost immediately, it was clear why the show chose them for the finale.

She shared the story during an appearance on 'The Tonight Show' and afterward, she and Fallon chowed down on a hot dog.

As planned, they stopped by the hot dog stand and took advantage of a two-for-one hot dog deal to cap off their night. “I didn’t want to take off the outfit and get stuff on it, so I just didn’t really eat anything that day.” She spoke about her decision to go for a hot dog during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It was such a busy day getting ready and I was so hungry, all I ate was gruel in the morning,” she said.

Rather than going to a lavish afterparty, she stayed true to her DIY roots by eating Nathan’s hot dogs in the MGM Grand food court: “[We] stayed up late in a freezing cold warehouse making this record eating a lot of junk food. [It was] full-circle at the Grammys, getting to share a hot dog.” Naturally, Fallon then surprised Zauner with a pair of celebratory hot dogs to share on the spot. When Fallon pointed out that the soundtrack will undoubtedly be great, Zauner responded with a laugh: “I’m going to hopefully write my Oscar-bait original.”

This week's Season 47 finale of SNL aslo saw them say farewell to cast members Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney.
