The St. Louis Blues lost Game 3 on home ice 5-2 to the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche will now carry a 2-1 series lead going into Game 4.
I started with FanSided as a Baseball Contributor. Now I am writing about the NHL and the St. Louis Blues for The Hockey Writers. I grew up in Central Illinois as a huge fan of every sport. The Blues must come out fast and be ready to play a lot better in front of whoever their goaltender is. The series was an uphill battle for the Blues before it started, but now with the Binnington injury and series deficit, it becomes even more difficult. The Avalanche played nearly the entire game with only five defensemen, and the Blues could not take advantage of that. Binnington has been somewhat of a savior for the Blues in the playoffs, with a .948 save percentage (SV%) and a record of 4-1. It was less than seven minutes into the game when he left, and he had made three saves with a 1-0 lead.

“I think it was Binnington,” Kadri told reporters when asked about the bottle. With the Avs nursing a 3-2 cushion late in the third period, as a raucous Blues crowd tried to scream the home side back into the game, Husso’s brain locked up. One problem — the Blues turned it over, and before the netminder could get back, the Avs were zipping his way off the break. Someone who’d stand up to the bullies. Never mind that donnybrook in the crease. Husso was sent to the bench. It was textbook hot-goalie mode, a combination of reflexes and anticipation that starts to put a Cup favorite on dangerously thin ice. Last spring, Bednar’s roster got worn down physically by Vegas and mentally by Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Avs faithful were desperate for a rough-and-tumble anti-hero of their own. The Avalanche dug themselves a 1-0 deficit, on the road, some 6:45 into Game 3. It’s a muddle. And it’s unfortunate, but it is what it is.” An unfortunate hockey play, but a hockey play nonetheless.

Things like that happen, we're a good team and we could have done a better job of getting momentum back." Binner is a heart and soul (player), playing unbelievable," Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly said of the play. “I was just kind of sitting behind him and just tried to poke it with my stick.
(AP) – Despite regaining the edge in their second-round series, the Colorado Avalanche aren't satisfied. Artturi Lehkonen scored twice, Darcy Kuemper ...
“We kind of lost our structure a bit and kind of having our numbers where we need them in order to generate some offense. “I think there was a little bit of a momentum swing there,” O’Connor said about the Blues changing goaltenders. Nathan MacKinnon assisted on the goal to give him points in seven straight postseason games. “Of course it was a good answer from the last game,” Lehkonen said. “I was just kind of sitting behind him and just tried to poke it with my stick. I think their defenseman kind of collided with me and pushed me into him.
The Colorado Avalanche took down the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 and will look to build on their 2-1 series lead at Enterprise Center on May 23.
Statistically, the Avs have already been the better team at 5v5, as they lead this series in scoring chances, high-danger chances, and expected goals, according to Natural Stat Trick. Losing their No. 1 netminder likely changes the Blues’ approach to the game. His poor play is what gave Binnington an opportunity between the pipes in the first place. Binnington was removed from Game 3 after Nazem Kadri and Calle Rosen crashed into him in the crease. The Blues didn’t leave the contest unscathed either, as goaltender Jordan Binnington suffered a lower-body injury and could be out for weeks, according to The Athletic. Defenceman Samuel Girard suffered an injury early on, and he’ll be out for the rest of the postseason.
The Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues clashed Saturday night in St. Louis to determine which team would take a 2-1 lead in the series.
And despite the extra workload, I thought it was Makar’s best game of the series. It’s not just because O’Reilly has scored seven goals in the postseason and is riding a seven-game scoring streak. But his consistency is still a work in progress, and the Avalanche are deep. O’Connor’s goal was something of a broken play, and Husso had just entered the game. Case in point: Ryan O’Reilly’s goal in the dying moments of the second period. He suffered a broken sternum on the play and is out for the remainder of the season. And at times O’Connor has shown a nose for the net. And I think that might have played a factor in Kadri driving the St. Louis net with reckless abandon. Kadri was behind Rosen and he sent the Blues defenseman flying into his own goalie. But here’s the thing: it wasn’t a penalty. And while the Avalanche prevailed 5-2, it was a much closer game than the score would indicate. And while I do think Colorado was the better team, St. Louis pushed hard and kept the game within one goal until late in the third period.
The best player in the second-round series between the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues got knocked out early in the first period.
Ahead of Dallas’ must-win Game 3 matchup against the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals on Sunday, it has been fined a whopping $100,000 for antics in Game 2’s loss to Golden State Friday evening. They have a seven-game lead over the Phillies and looked to be in great position to coast through the regular season en route to a division title. The Avalanche rebounded from a 4-1 loss in Game 2, taking control of Game 3 in the second period and never allowing the Blues back in the game. They've got one of the best rotations in the league and their offense is putting it together. Aliu told ESPN that Kadri felt unsafe at the Avalanche's team hotel in St. Louis, partially due to social media threats. Aliu and Kadri are founding members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, an organization of current and former hockey players of color that is seeking to eradicate racism from the game. The NHL Department of Player Safety determined there was no supplemental discipline necessary for him.

While with Toronto, he was suspended the remainder of the first round in 2019 for cross-checking, which turned out to be five games, and three games for boarding in 2018. The Maple Leafs dealt him to Colorado in the summer of 2019. "Obviously, there's some animosity between the Blues fanbase, and maybe the team, and him. "I'm just trying to go out there and try to win and compete," said Kadri, who was momentarily distracted by the water bottle tossed in his direction during the interview and indicated it may been from Binnington. "If people take that personally, that's on them. Last season, Kadri delivered a blow to the head of Faulk in Game 2. I want to win and that's it." "We've talked about this with Naz and the way he's tryng to change his reputation, making sure he's playing through checks. "It was a bang-bang play and I made a mistake. On the TNT broadcast, longtime NHL referee Don Koharski termed it a hockey play. I’m going out there to win and compete and if that’s personal that’s on them. "Listen, reputation, it doesn't mean anything: It's either a legal play or it's not," said Avalanche coach Jared Bednar, whose team lost defenceman Samuel Girard [broken sternum] for the playoffs on a check from Ivan Barbashev into the boards.
