Le Service de police de Gatineau (SPVG) a confirmé qu’une personne a perdu la vie sur la rivière des Outaouais, dans le secteur Masson-Angers, après que son embarcation a chaviré. Les policiers ont reçu l’appel un peu avant 17 h. Plus tôt samedi, Environnement Canada avait publié une veille d'orages violents qui visait des secteurs de la Haute-Gatineau, Papineau, Gatineau, Ottawa et l'est ontarien, notamment. En Outaouais l’orage a laissé aussi sa trace. Hydro Ottawa a pour sa part rapporté que près de 120 000 abonnés n'avaient pas d’électricité en fin de journée. Scénario similaire pour plus de 70 000 résidences d'Hydro One dans l'est ontarien. Des manœuvres de réanimation ont été effectuées par les services d'urgence, mais son décès a été constaté à l'hôpital. Le service des incendies d’Ottawa a confirmé que des toits de maisons se sont envolés à Stittsville. Les pompiers indiquent également que des orages majeurs ont frappé différents secteurs à l'ouest d'Ottawa ainsi qu’à l’est de la ville.

En début de soirée, vers 17h30, Hydro-Québec indiquait au Droit qu’environ 115 000 foyers en Outaouais étaient privés d’électricité en raison de l’orage violent et qu’une importante opération de rétablissement de service était en cours. À Fassett, dans la MRC de Papineau, le clocher de l’église du village n’a pas résisté aux rafales. Avant de frapper la région le puissant orage a balayé le sud de l'Ontario, tuant au moins deux personnes et privant des dizaines de milliers de foyers d'électricité. Selon Environnement Canada, l’orage s’est produit autour de 16h samedi. «Le service d’autobus R1 circule à la station Blair. L’électricité a repris dans la portion est de la ville donc le service est offert partiellement.» Des témoins ont porté assistance aux deux personnes.

City crews are responding to storm damage | City of Ottawa (ottawa.ca)

There have been multiple reports of power outages, damaged property and fallen trees, particularly in the Navan, Stittsville, Merivale and Hunt Club areas.

Ottawa residents are asked to avoid damaged areas and stay off roads unless absolutely necessary. The City’s 3-1-1 call centre is seeing a significantly higher number of calls than usual. Crews from the Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Fire Service, Ottawa Paramedic Service other city services are responding to the emergency and will continue to do so into the night.
