"You pay your dues all winter long, fall and winter, and then all of a sudden when the sun kicks in with the blue skies... Votto's return to Cincinnati's lineup isn't just well-timed for personal reasons, but because four Reds players were put on the team's restricted list due to their COVID-19 vaccination status. I can't wait to play. "It just gives me goosebumps. "I'm happy to be back in a major league uniform, competing in front of crowds and on television." Votto returned to the Cincinnati Reds lineup on Friday in time for the first game of a three-game interleague series against the Blue Jays. He told media before the game how much playing at the stadium by Toronto's waterfront means to him.

Really, I've tried to keep it really simple,” Votto said. “And there's several on this team, in my opinion, Vladdy being the most fun to watch. I'm hitter biased, but he's a treat and he's got what appears to be a fantastic future, so I can't wait to compete against him.” I mean, between being a fan of the team and being raised in this stadium in this team's backyard.” After a two-game rehab stint with Triple-A Louisville, and a couple more games in High-A Dayton, Votto said on Wednesday that he was “ready to play.” “I feel like with more information, it gets more complicated and starts spiraling down. “I have this image of me catching a foul ball,” Votto said on Friday, hours before his Reds opened a three-game series against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. “But I don't think I've ever caught a foul ball. We complicate it at times.” \n","providerName":"Twitter","providerUrl":"https://twitter.com","type":"rich","width":550,"__typename":"ExternalEmbedContent"},"$ROOT_QUERY.getForgeContentBySlug({\"locale\":\"en-us\",\"slug\":\"joey-votto-returns-to-toronto-as-reds-blue-jays-open-series\",\"type\":\"story\"}).parts.4":{"data":{"type":"id","generated":true,"id":"$ROOT_QUERY.getForgeContentBySlug({\"locale\":\"en-us\",\"slug\":\"joey-votto-returns-to-toronto-as-reds-blue-jays-open-series\",\"type\":\"story\"}).parts.4.data","typename":"ExternalEmbedContent"},"type":"oembed","__typename":"ExternalEmbed"},"$ROOT_QUERY.getForgeContentBySlug({\"locale\":\"en-us\",\"slug\":\"joey-votto-returns-to-toronto-as-reds-blue-jays-open-series\",\"type\":\"story\"}).parts.5":{"content":"Votto hasn’t looked great at the plate to start the year. David Bell said it "speaks for itself" on what it means for the Reds to get Joey Votto back into the lineup. Votto returns to play in his hometown.

LEADOFF HITTER: Between May 8 and May 19, Reds outfielder TJ Friedl was the leadoff hitter in every game that the Reds played against a right-handed starting pitcher. He signed with the Reds in April as a minor league free agent. He has a 101 mph fastball and a 1.65 ERA this year as a starter for the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate. In an unrelated transaction, Reds first baseman Joey Votto was activated from the injured list.

I still have no exact idea where he’ll play for the next 12 years while Kyle Farmer sets records for number of games played at shortstop, but Barrero’s talent is undeniable and he’ll surely slot in somewhere else to make it work. Joel Kuhnel, Tyler Mahle, Brandon Drury, and Albert Almora were placed on the restricted list. Chief among them, obviously, is the return of Joey Votto after several weeks on the undefined injury list, though there were several other moves of note, too.

That’s where they are right now, even if Joey Votto is back to sock a hundred dingers in a row again this summer. Factor in that four players are unavailable for this series in Canada due to the vaccination rules across the border, and this is a club that’s seriously seeking answers all up and down itself. Hell, maybe he can bat 5th or 6th in this lineup at some point, too.

'He has never forgotten us': The long-standing legacy of Joey Votto ... (Cincinnati.com)

ETOBICOKE, Ontario –– It's already been 20 years since Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto dunked on these rims as a high school basketball player.

They hear the story about when Votto learned he was drafted by the Reds in 2002. Throughout his 16-year MLB career, Votto has been loyal to the Reds franchise that drafted him. He tells them about how Votto was a “self-made All-Star.” Everyone admired how Votto would go to the fitness room every day at lunch. At Richview, Votto is still invested in making that happen. “He really brought in the athletic success this school has. As the students finish their pizza, he asks, “What do you want next week?” Someone says Chipotle, so Votto brings Chipotle. He comes by the school. He has never forgotten Richview. He’s still one of the guys. He has never forgotten us. He gets into the game. He has done so much for us.”
