Antigonish County District RCMP has charged a man with theft after an incident at a convenience store on Main St. in Antigonish.
As investigators continued with their investigation, they learned that the same suspect had attempted to break-in to an ATM at a bank on College St. prior to attending the convenience store. At approximately 3:15 p.m., yesterday afternoon, the suspect was located by police and safely taken into custody. Violence was not threatened, nor was there a weapon involved.
Sneesby, 72, has pleaded not guilty to counts of second-degree murder and offering indignity to human remains.
The officer was initially taken aback, he said, when Sneesby told him Gladue’s remains were in Manitoba, two provinces away from where she was last seen. They also included concocted situations involving illegality — including one case where company employees cleaned up after a co-worker who, as part of the ruse, had beaten up his sister’s abuser. The undercover operators created 52 “scenarios” designed to gain his trust and eventually elicit evidence about Gladue’s disappearance. Sneesby previously worked as a long-haul trucker but could no longer drive because of a DUI. He took pride in riding shotgun and securing loads — often vehicles secretly rented by the RCMP and trucked around Western Canada for show. On the limo ride to Winnipeg, Sneesby met other “winners,” who were all undercover RCMP officers. His lawyer has raised the possibility that Sneesby killed Gladue in self-defence.
