Massive solar project in southern Alberta nearly complete (Globalnews.ca)

Renewable energy is becoming more common in Alberta with the southern part of the province becoming a hot spot for solar energy.

The massive project is the Travers Solar Project, the largest of its kind in Canada blanketing 3,330 acres. Construction on the Travers Solar Project is set to be complete by the fall. “There is probably about 20 different engineering firms that were a part of the project and that are currently working on it, and I’d estimate there would be in excess of hundreds of engineers that have participated in the design and currently work with us in the construction.”

Jason Kenney to remain as premier, party leader until new UCP ... (CBC.ca)

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney will remain at the helm of the United Conservative Party until a new leader is chosen, the UCP caucus said on Thursday.

"This is really a beautiful day for hope," said Aheer, who has also previously called for Kenney's resignation. "Our NDP government wasn't perfect, that's for sure," she said. "The most important thing today is for Jason Kenney to leave — for Jason Kenney to follow through with what he said last night, when he clearly said, he didn't have the mandate and the respect of Albertans," Barnes said. We know that. It's unclear as of yet when that could be. "The healing process can't start until Jason Kenney leaves," said Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche MLA Brian Jean, who is gunning to become the party's permanent new leader.

CUPE Alberta President Calls on Albertans to Keep Fighting (Business Wire)

President of CUPE Alberta, Rory Gill released the following statement on Premier Jason Kenney's resignation. “Last night, the worst Premier in Alberta.

Jason Kenney’s resignation is welcome news, but our fight against the UCP government’s privatization agenda must continue. It is not focused on the things that matter to Alberta families; it is focused on itself and distracted by its internal disarray and infighting. “Last night, the worst Premier in Alberta’s history resigned.

Ms. Smith, who is not a UCP MLA, said it would be reasonable for the party to allow Mr. Kenney to extend his leadership, despite his apparent resignation. He advised the party of his “intention to resign as leader … upon the election of a new leader.” I believe we can rebuild this party and rebuild the brand.” Mr. Kenney late last year fended off a caucus revolt by agreeing to an early leadership review. His resignation plans, therefore, surprised conservatives in Alberta and across the country. Rajan Sawhney, the Minister of Transportation, supported Mr. Kenney in the leadership review. On Thursday, he released the letter he sent to the UCP, informing the party of his plans. He intends to compete for the leadership. “I am seriously considering running for leadership,” she said in an interview Wednesday evening. He joined the UCP caucus after winning a by-election in March on a campaign to unseat his old rival. A number of cabinet and caucus members were considering running for interim leader ahead of Thursday’s meeting. While that secured a technical win, Mr. Kenney said it was not enough to maintain power.

Is a 'big tent' conservative party realistic in Alberta anymore? (Globalnews.ca)

'I'm not sure that that glue -- hostility towards the NDP -- is sufficient to keep this party together," MRU political scientist Duane Bratt said.

“There’s been a lot of politicians in Alberta who’ve been kind of riding the fence, being a little bit wishy washy. If Jason Kenney does go, and there’s a change in direction in the UCP, I think those parties will have a hard time gaining any traction. “But it is my fervent hope that in the months to come, we all move on past the division of COVID.” Governing Conservatives provincially and federally is very difficult.” That depends on who wins the leadership,” Bratt said. “This was step one. “And I think this forthcoming leadership race will test that even more. “But once that race is over, and we see who the new UCP leader is, then I think that exodus starts anew. Independent MLAs Loewen and Barnes were kicked out of UCP caucus one year ago after calling for Kenney’s resignation. I think that also holds for our conservative movement. “It is not united. We are stronger untied.

When pressed on potential future leaders, Smith called Finance Minister Travis Toews a "very, very exciting individual" and "a very sharp fellow." "What I'm hoping is when that meeting happens [Thursday], that the people who were dissidents were no longer considered dissidents. Because they weren't problems for the party, and they weren't problems for the caucus. "That could be an advantage or a disadvantage," Williams said. "He's got experience in government, so I would suspect someone like that, who is well enough known.

BENNETT: Jason Kenney led Alberta through bulldog willpower and ... (Nelson Star)

Kenney resigned after just 51 per cent of party rank-and-file endorsed him in a leadership review.

The RCMP continues to investigate allegations of voter identity fraud in that race. On the strength of soaring oil and gas prices, he balanced the budget for the first time in years. In less than two years, he got 87 constituency associations and candidates running. In recent weeks, as the system has continued to strain under COVID-19, he blamed Alberta Health Services, the front-line care provider. He defeated Brian Jean in the inaugural 2017 party leadership race. He created a so-called energy war room designed to fight with oil and gas foes. Kenney has said he didn’t know anything about it. Backbenchers said Kenney had promised to bring them around the decision-making table but instead froze them out. Some dissenters found themselves kicked out of caucus. There were Facebook townhalls and a radio show. His favourite target was Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s federal government. “We inherited profound fiscal and economic challenges.
