Quick reminder before the NBA Draft Lottery commences: Several teams will not have a first-round pick. Houston's evaluators have already done some groundwork, but this week's combine will go a long way towards whittling down their Big Board. Expect all sorts of superstitious behavior from Houston today. The shots just didn’t fall this year like they sometimes don’t for teenagers over small samples. It is much more of an eye-of-the-beholder situation, where different evaluators have drastically different takes. Toronto used that pick to select Florida State's Scottie Barnes, who would go on to win Rookie of the Year.

NBA Draft Lottery winners and losers: Magic, Cavs enjoy lottery luck ... (Sporting News)

The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery has concluded, and the order of teams picking is set. Here are the biggest winners and losers from lottery night.

They completed a miserable season that saw only 23 wins and the third-worst record in the league. With no consensus No. 1, they are shielded from the criticism that comes with screwing up the top pick in the draft. The Pistons were the biggest loser of the night. If the Kings had moved into the top three, they might have been destined to draft Sabonis' replacement. The three players that are atop most mock drafts are all big men in Smith Jr., Holmgren and Banchero. And they still have a great shot at picking the best player that comes out of the class. And the Pistons and Rockets were the big losers. That might still happen if one of the big men fall, but the Kings ended up with the fourth pick. But the No. 1 pick in the draft is still pretty darn good in any season. Who were the biggest winners and losers from the night? And for the Magic, Thunder, Rockets and Kings, maybe all of those losses were worth it. The draft lottery is general manager Sam Presti's Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup and NBA Finals all rolled into one.

Scottie Barnes actually did help lead the Toronto Raptors back to the playoffs after the Raptors jumped into the top four last summer, and he narrowly edged Mobley out for Rookie of the Year in the process. Cleveland jumped up to No. 3 last season, and with Evan Mobley at power forward, the Cavs nearly made it back to the first round of the playoffs for the first time since LeBron James left. Joining the in the top four are the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings in that order. The only guard widely believed to be in the running for the top selection is Purdue point guard Jaden Ivey, an elite athlete who impressed on college basketball's biggest stage in March. While this class lacks the surefire No. 1 pick last year's gave us in Oklahoma State point guard Cade Cunningham, there are a number of prospects who can make a case for the top selection. This will be just the fifth time the Kings have drafted in the top four in the past 40 seasons, and the first time since selecting Marvin Bagley III in the 2018 draft. Drafting at No. 3 will be the Rockets, who had the No. 2 pick in last year's draft. The San Antonio Spurs, slotted at No. 9, could have their first top-10 selection since selecting Tim Duncan. 2022 NBA Draft Lottery results: Magic get No. 1 overall pick ... (CBSSports.com)

The Magic will get the top pick in next month's NBA Draft after winning Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery.

Only the Cavaliers have had the first pick more often in the lottery era. "I feel like I'm the No. 1 pick in the draft because I feel like I'm the best overall player. "The fans. "[The No. 6 pick] will be the highest the Pacers have selected in over three decades, since Indiana drafted Rik Smits second overall in 1988." They made a clear push to change that last season by trading Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield to the Indiana Pacers for Domantas Sabonis. It didn't work last season, but adding another top-four pick might help them finally get back to the playoffs in the future. Most notably, the Sacramento Kings, who had the seventh-worst record in the league last season, jumped up to the No. 4 overall pick. Add in the likes of Markelle Fultz, Wendell Carter Jr., Jonathan Isaac (if he ever plays basketball again), Cole Anthony, Chuma Okeke and RJ Hampton, plus whoever they take at No. 1 this year, and that's a lot of young talent. They had two lottery picks last season in Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner, the latter of which is almost certainly going to be on the All-Rookie Team. "There's so much to look forward to. While that's not an ideal way to spend seven-plus months, all of the losing paid off as they won the No. 1 overall pick on Tuesday night. There is no clear-cut No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, and the various candidates comprise a wide range of positions and skills. The Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons round out the top five.

NBA Draft Lottery: Damian Lillard's face says it all, as Blazers face ... (CBSSports.com)

The Blazers fell in the lottery, only adding to the uncertainty of Lillard's future with the franchise.

There are plenty of contenders (and the superstars who play for them) who would happily trade for Lillard, and the Blazers will likely fetch a better haul if they don't wait until a trade demand crushes any leverage they might have. First, a late-season surge by the Pelicans -- ironically thanks in large part to McCollum -- caused the Blazers to lose out on New Orleans' 2022 first-round pick, which was considered to be a key piece of the trade. Not only did the Blazers fail to jump into the top four -- they actually dropped a spot. When the time for the seventh selection came, however, NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum uttered the dreadful words that Lillard and the city of Portland didn't want to hear. Boasting a lineup chocked full of fringe NBA players and G Leaguers, Portland went just 2-21 after the All-Star break -- yes, they won TWO games in almost two months -- in an effort to land a lofty draft pick to use on a promising prospect or to sweeten a potential deal for win-now help. The fact that Damian Lillard showed up as the Portland Trail Blazers' representative at Tuesday night's NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago tells you just how important this night was for the franchise.
