Reign Round 2, Game 3 Preview – Desperation Mode, Tka-Ching! + ... (lakingsinsider.com)

WHO: Ontario Reign (2-2) at Colorado Eagles (4-0) WHAT: 2022 CALDER CUP PLAYOFFS – Round 2, Game 3. WHEN: Sunday, May 15 @ 8:00 PM Pacific

Thomas missed Game 1 in Colorado but returned for Game 2 and not only scored but finished the contest with a +2 rating. First, Tkachev fed the puck to Akil Thomas, who was open on the inside of the right circle in the Colorado end for a one-time strike that got the Reign back within striking distance. Back-to-back losses to start the series in Colorado has the Reign on the brink. He has great vision and a great ability to make things happen and he definitely did that tonight. Colorado has used its speed and aggressive playing style to force the Reign into playing a more conservative game while they were on the road. EAGLES VITALS: The Eagles were able to pick up a victory in Game 2 and stay unbeaten in postseason play without some of their impact players. Annunen made his fourth consecutive postseason start and kept the Reign at bay until the final minutes, stopping 32 shots to stay unbeaten during the Calder Cup Playoffs. However, the four goals allowed were the most he’s given up in any of his appearances. Ontario. Defenseman Jordan Gross, already honored as the league’s Defenseman of the Year for his performance during the regular season, also posted a 3-point night with a power play goal and two assists in Friday’s game, while leading all skaters with eight shots on net. At this time, it’s unknown whether Villalta will be available for Game 3 on Sunday night, but the Reign can now feel confident that if needed, Sparks is healthy and up to the task in a must-win game. With goaltender Matt Villalta unavailable for Game 2 due to an emergency recall by the LA Kings, veteran Garret Sparks was called on for his first action since mid-March. Sparks delivered for the Reign with a performance that kept his team in the game. Getting anyone back would force a hard decision for the Reign coaching staff on how to structure the team’s lineup. It’s not a lot of time for recovery but rest assured those who have played in every one of the team’s four postseason games probably needed a day to heal some bumps and bruises and clear their mind.

Again, Mayor’s Manor has been told decisions on those players will also come Monday. Chromiak would most likely receive heavy consideration; especially given his time with the Reign last season and the fact he’s expected to be in the AHL next season. Below is a guestimate how things will be put together based on the limited amount of information available come playoff time. Given how Colorado has tried to push around Ontario, it was a bit surprising to not see 6-foot-6 Samuel Helenius in the lineup for Game 2. Should the Reign win, Games 4 and 5 would also be played at Toyota Arena. As reported Friday, Alex Turcotte is expected out for the foreseeable future after taking a vicious cross-check to the head in Game 1 (video here). After dropping Game 1 by a score of 10-1, the Ontario Reign managed to rally late and force overtime in Game 2.

Angeles Analysis - Round 1 - LA Kings Insider (lakingsinsider.com)

As I begin to reflect back on the 2021-22 season, I keep looking back to May 13 as a benchmark for how far things truly have come. May 13, 2021.

A few ideas in the works for that time of the year, with some much-needed rest and relaxation to be scheduled as well. I’m hopeful you were all able to enjoy that coverage and the insight and information provided across the course of a full schedule for the first time since 2019. But his words summarized the approach of the small picture and the big picture, with a look ahead to what’s to come, and perhaps the difficult work that lies ahead to take the next step forward. It was a different job for me, being in the office full-time, outside of the bubble, with certain elements helping the product here on LAKI, and others I think holding it back. Despite a rash of injuries that had the Kings among the NHL’s Top 5 in terms of man games lost, especially on the blueline, a resilient and structured group found a way to reach the postseason. a few areas of my own I’d like to improve with site coverage for next season, but without the community here sticking to it, those improvements would be for naught. The Kings had to play games that late due to COVID rescheduling, games that were lame-duck games for the Kings, playing against a team fighting for the Presidents’ Trophy. They lost the pair of games against the Avalanche by a combined 11-1 score, games that were not competitive between teams in two different places, with different motivations, in their final two games of the regular season. He ended his opening answer from last night’s press conference by noting that the 2022-23 season starts today and that from his experience, it’s going to be a tough one. There was obvious sadness and disappointment in the room last night, publicly personified by Anze Kopitar. His emotions allowed him to get out just five words when asked about Brown, holding back the emotions as best as he could, a picture of the friendship the two have forged over the last 16 years. The LA Kings boarded a flight to Edmonton to prepare for Game 7 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In 365 days time, the Kings went from playing meaningless, scheduled games to being on the verge of the organization’s first playoff series victory since 2014. Brown will break that trend and start a new one, with three of his current teammates to follow when their time comes. The LA Kings lost the second of two games in Colorado to close out their season.
