St. Louis Blues vs. Minnesota Wild: 2022 Round One, Game 6 Preview (The Hockey Writers)

The St. Louis Blues host the Minnesota Wild in Game 6 Thursday night with a chance to close out the series.

The Wild have yet to make changes to their lineup this postseason, but they might be forced to if they want stay alive in the series. The Wild are headed to St. Louis for a do-or-die Game 6. “The goal is for the team to play well, and we didn’t win. “The goal isn’t for a player to play well,” Kaprizov said. Ahead of Game 6, captain Jared Spurgeon said, “We have all the confidence in ourselves. The forward scored 47 goals and 108 points in 81 games during the regular season. He scored his second goal of the game 1:23 later, and his third on an empty-net goal to secure the hat trick at the 18:27 minute mark of the period. The 25-year-old Russian’s seven goals are tied for the league lead in the playoffs. Sporting a black eye throughout the game, Bortuzzo managed to record two hits and one blocked shot. He has the feet to stay with him, and that’s important. Not surprised he made this play, and that was a great play and big goal for us.” While the 27-year-old Buchnevich has yet to score a goal in this series, his four assists are tied for the most on the team this series.

The St. Louis Blues easily eliminated the Minnesota Wild from the playoffs Thursday night, which means it'll be the Colorado Avalanche vs.

There could be a bunch of Game 7s on Saturday, and the NHL doesn’t want to upstage any of those games with a Game 1 of a Round 2 series. For one thing, they have one of the Avs’ top-six wingers from last year, Brandon Saad, on their side. Blues for the second straight year.

St. Louis Blues Pros/Cons 2022 Playoff Game 6 Vs Minnesota Wild (Bleedin' Blue)

The St. Louis Blues had a fantastic finish to Game 5 to take a series lead into a potential clinching game. They had to weather the storm early in Game 6.

The Blues had crashed out in the first round the last two years and needed to get a win. On top of that, the Blues gave the Wild two first period power plays. The power play didn’t muster a shot on every chance it had either. They were going to sit back a moment, weather the storm and then get to their game. They failed to generate even a shot and that gave the Wild some life. The Blues have been defensively challenged, but they played reasonably well in this game, minus the penalties. The Blues could not afford any softies to go in against them, especially early. The offense continued to be a little sketchy early in the second. Nevertheless, the Blues made the most of their looks. The Blues earned a power play on a rather dubious call where Jordan Kyrou actually grabbed his opponent’s stick. The St. Louis Blues knew the Minnesota Wild were not going to go quietly into that good night. While all the offense for either team was sparse at first – just five total shots in the first eight minutes – St. Louis still had to be on their toes.

Colorado Preparing for Matchup Against St. Louis (BlueJackets.com)

After a few days of waiting to see who the opponent would be, the Colorado Avalanche will officially take on the St. Louis Blues in the Second Round of the 2022 ...

"Our mindset from the start was we were so dialed in," Erik Johnson said. "They're a physical team, a big heavy team," Mikko Rantanen said. He also noted that it was a good matchup for the group to get engaged right away, especially now as they take on another hefty opponent in St. Louis, who successfully slowed down Minnesota's speed and transition game. Colorado knew it would be a physical test as Nashville had finished the regular season with the most hits (2,470) and continued that physicality into the postseason. The Avalanche enter the Second Round coming off a First Round sweep over the Nashville Predators, whereas St. Louis took care of business in Game 6 against the Minnesota Wild in order to advance. St. Louis' depth is one of the team's strong suits as they boasted a league-high of nine skaters score 20-plus goals during the regular season, where Colorado recorded the second-most with seven.

It's disappointing we didn't win tonight and we didn't win in the first round of the playoffs. … Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek.took a stick to the mouth from Kulikov in the first period and left the game before returning for the second with a cage. It allowed us to go out and kind of realized what we had to do better and play better in the second period. 'Leds' makes a great play and a great goal and that just kind of helped us to kind of settle down and build our game after them kind of thinking they outplayed us going into the second. "We had a good first period and kind of weathered the storm," Binnington said. "I was doing everything I could to stay ready," Talbot said. Cam Talbot made 22 saves in his first start of the series after Marc-Andre Fleury started the first five games. Talbot appeared to be screened by defenseman Dmitry Kulikov on the play.
