The 16 Ronald McDonald Houses provide out-of-town families with a home to stay at while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital, while the 17 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide a comfortable place for families to rest and recharge, right inside hospitals. In an average year, the RMHC network of programs in Canada helps to keep more than 26,000 families close to their sick child and the care they need. Of the almost $1 billion spent on food, more than 85 per cent is purchased from suppliers in Canada. For more information on McDonald's Canada, visit mcdonalds.ca. Support from Canadians helps families stay close together, and close to the medical care they need – like the Stockford Family, who spent 71 nights at RMHC Southwestern Ontario while their daughter was in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). In both franchised and corporate-owned restaurants, nearly 100,000 people are employed from coast-to-coast, and more than 90 per cent of McDonald's 1,400 Canadian restaurants are locally owned and operated by independent franchisees. More than ever, being able to give back and spread some joy is something I think we all really need during such challenging times."

Mary-Anne Frith, co-chair of the Moments Matter campaign says each patient and their family gets about 35 square feet of space to deal with the difficulties they are facing. Jason O’Neill, who operates four of the McDonald’s restaurants in Barrie, says funds collected in the city will benefit two children’s charities – the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at RVH and Ronald McDonald House. “In the past, we raised close to $50,000, within the Barrie area, as well as Orillia and Bradford. This year, we hope to match that, if not exceed it. If they can’t make it to the restaurant, and they can utilize McDelivery, they’ll receive free delivery on orders over $15.”

Fort St. John celebrates McHappy Day (Energeticcity.ca)

McHappy Day 2022 has arrived, with funds being raised for the Fort St. John Child Development Centre, and for Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon.

“It’s been really important for our centre in particular, but also the families we serve, who access Ronald McDonald House,” she said. “I often think about the families who have to rush their child down to Vancouver. As a mother that’s huge, when your child needs you the most you don’t want to be separated.” “A lot people don’t think the house is local, but about 25 percent of the people who use it actually come from Northern BC, and they have to travel the most, and often don’t have the resources,” she said.

Elliot Bonner suffered from a condition called hydrocephalus, which necessitated brain surgery at B.C. Children's Hospital.

“There was a lot of support there as well and we were able to participate in a lot of activities there that helped address that stress,” says Elizabeth. “It was a safe place to go after having a long day at the hospital.” “Hydrocephalus is fluid on the brain and it was causing pressure in his head, so while he was at Children’s he needed brain surgery and they removed the excess fluid.”
