The Avs won Game 2, and Connor Ingram is the big story. One, the Avalanche can bring the heat, get rejected over and over and find themselves in a tough spot — and still win. But Connor Ingram had his moment, and I expect a lot of folks out there can relate to what it meant. Two, the human side of sports always trumps the final score, and the opposing third-string goalie who climbed a personal mountain to get here should be celebrated. wondering if 1996 Patrick Roy had skated into net for the Preds. Connor Ingram was unbelievable. But despite the loss, the Game 2 story was Connor Ingram. He was shoved into action against the NHL’s best scoring teams, one of the best scoring teams seen here, and this was his second playoff game. This is going to be a long Stanley Cup playoffs run by the Avs. There will be lots of words and praise and criticisms written about Joe Sakic and Jared Bednar and Nathan MacKinnon, and they’re going to earn most of the above. Connor Ingram is why it wasn’t. The Avalanche and Nashville Predators went to overtime late Thursday, and the Avs won 2-1 when Cale Makar slapped in the game-winner. The Avs hold a 2-0 series lead. Hot goalies in the playoffs are the ultimate equalizer.

Predators news: Nashville reveals goalie move for Game 2 vs ... (ClutchPoints)

The Nashville Predators have named Connor Ingram as starting goalie for Game 2 against the Colorado Avalanche amid David Rittich's struggles.

The Avs will be attacking relentlessly all night, and there’s a real chance Ingram faces as many as 40 shots on target in the game. A matchup with the high-octane Avalanche offense is never a friendly scene for a goaltender, but Ingram will need to step up with the stakes raised once again and see if he can will the Predators to a win. The Nashville Predators got off to a disastrous start in Game 1 against the Colorado Avalanche, surrendering five goals in the opening period of play.

The Colorado Avalanche, who cooled off with Connor Ingram in net, snatched a 2-1 overtime victory out of tense Game 2 against the Nashville Predators.

In the opening moments of the second period, he helped kill two Colorado power plays. The Predators are not. While Ingram ultimately allowed the game-winner with 11:29 left in overtime, this “L” gets attached to the other end of the ice. They like being doubted and “have been at our best when we've had that mentality,” said Mattias Ekholm before Game 1. He kept us in the game." During their first power play of the game and the 5-on-3 stretch to start the final period, the most threatening shot attempt was by Avalanche superstar Cale Makar. Ingram, though, stopped him both times. The Colorado Avalanche, who cooled off considerably with Ingram in net, managed to finally put a second shot past him to snatch a 2-1 overtime victory out of tense Game 2. They didn’t do enough to secure a playoff win that was there for the taking Thursday night, having been nearly stolen by Ingram. But something from nothing still didn’t amount to enough. "He made lots of saves at key times. Against all odds given his lack of experience, Ingram was tremendous. He certainly provided that tonight."

"He made a nice play," Ingram said. "He changed the angle a lot before he let it go. "And that's the beauty of playoffs. "… I know what he's capable of, and I think we all saw it tonight. "I think when hockey's taken away from probably any of us, for whatever reason, lots of times you miss it and understand how great of an opportunity you have to play in the best league in the world, play a sport that you love," Hynes said. MacKinnon flew down the left wing and fired a rocket past Ingram's blocker, and Ball Arena erupted. Allowing a goal on the first shot he faced could have been crushing. Each goal Ingram allowed went in off a teammate. I think against a high-powered offensive team, you're going to need excellent goaltending to win games, and he certainly provided that tonight." Ingram spent most of this season with Milwaukee of the AHL, going 30-17-7 with a 2.70 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage. The Athletic reported Ingram spent 40 days in a mental health treatment center in California, where doctors diagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder that led to anxiety, drinking and other issues. It was a bitter ending to an unbelievable, inspiring performance.

The Ingrams arrived at Ball Arena on Tuesday “totally relaxed,” Joni said. The sting from the loss had dulled. “Just the way the game had gone, it was too bad. Former Blazer Connor Ingram steals the show in NHL playoff game (KamloopsBCNow)

Looking for Sports news for Kamloops and Area. We have Blazers, Rattlers, Storm, Broncos, Excel, and so much more local sports news.

Back in January last year, Ingram voluntarily checked himself into the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, after he was suffering from the effects of OCD syndrome. Ingram ended up having an incredible career with the Blazers, starting 158 regular season games in three seasons, sporting a 81-50-18 record during that span. Eventually, Colorado finally got past the brick wall in net, as Makar’s 12th shot of the night eked through to give them the victory and take a 2-0 lead. He got into a couple of games this season, three in total, with the Predators, and had his first win in October, a 5-2 triumph against the Minnesota Wild. "Look at this performance. Game two was shaping up to be the same unfortunate result for the Predators, as just a couple of minutes in, Nathan MacKinnon streaked by on the left side and scored on the first shot of the game to put Colorado up 1-0.
