Islam Makhachev rips Charles Oliveira for denying UFC title shot ... (MMA Junkie)

Islam Makhachev finds it laughable that Charles Oliveira is willing to give Conor McGregor a title shot, but not him.

Makhachev might end up having to notch at least one more win before earning a title shot after UFC president Dana White said that his fight with Dariush will have to get rebooked. Makhachev ran through Green in Round 1. Makhachev is referring to when Oliveira stated this past December, after submitting Dustin Poirier, that he’d be willing to give McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) a title shot in May, despite the former UFC dual champion coming off back-to-back losses and having just one win at 155 pounds in the UFC.

With lightweight champion Charles Oliveira being stripped of his belt, only Justin Gaethje can walk away from UFC 274 with the title.

The title fight is a rematch of the first strawweight title fight in UFC history back in 2014. Chandler came close to winning the UFC title last year before dropping a back-and-forth battle with Oliveira. He then lost an instant classic to Gaethje in November by unanimous decision. As a result, the title is now considered vacant -- and on Saturday night, only his opponent, Justin Gaethje, is eligible to win the belt.

UFC 274 Betting Preview: Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje (Sports Illustrated)

Plus, Rose Namajunas vs. Carla Esparza and Michael Chandler vs. Tony Ferguson.

If you're looking for a bigger payout, I'd look into the odds for Rose to end this early. In the main event of UFC 274, I have Justin Gaethje finishing Charles Oliveira. I think this fight is going to be a war, as both men are going to engage in a quasi-kickboxing match. As a UFC fighter, the thought of having “do Bronx” latch on to your back is one of the most terrifying positions you can be in and while Gaethje is an accomplished grappler, wrestling isn't BJJ, and Oliveira is one of the greatest of all time. And I honestly feel most for Justin. What an absolute let down for everyone in the division.— Paul Felder (@felderpaul) #sadday May 6, 2022 We only found out when we were informed as we were coming down to check our official Weight. Luckly I was under so that didnt hurt me.— Ariane “Sorriso” Carnelossi (@ArianeSorrisoo) May 6, 2022 Making weight is always hard. This is not the first time that Oliveira has had difficulty at the scale, though his previous misses came when he was competing as a featherweight. UFC 274: Oliveira vs. Gaethje on May 7 has all the makings of being a fantastic card.

Chandler to go the distance (+150): Both fighters are in the twilight of their careers and are coming off multiple losses in a row. UFC 274 is one of the most fan-friendly main cards the organization has ever assembled. Charles Oliveira missed weight for his main event fight with Justin ...

Both are willing to test their mettle (and chins) every time they step inside the Octagon. Esparza outmuscled and submitted Namajunas to win the inaugural 115-pound title when they met in The Ultimate Fighter Finale late in 2014. On the flipside, three of Chandler’s past four losses has seen him get finished within six minutes. Namajunas has more ways to win this fight as the better finisher and her dynamic style as a champion is more marketable than a controlling wrestler who rarely finishes her opponents. Two action fighters on losing streaks are sure to put the crowd on its feet. Not surprising considering each fighter’s propensity to avoid the judges. If you plan on betting the Oliveira side, this odds change benefits you. Dustin Poirier’s best punch landed on Oliveira in their December fight at UFC 269 was a clean right hook that sat the Brazilian star down.
