Cruise, 59, is reprising his role of Maverick over 35 years after the original Top Gun hit theaters in 1986.

"It just opened up the whole movie. 🖤✈️." Sporting American Optical's pilot sunglasses, Cruise smiled as he exited the aircraft and walked along the tarmac, buttoning up the jacket of his bespoke navy Brioni three-piece suit. Earlier this week, Cruise stopped by The Late Late Show and talked about just how big of an impact the song has on the sequel and how the "incredible" Gaga is "not just on the soundtrack" of the movie, but also "helped compose the score." It later had release dates set for July 2, 2021, and then Nov. 19, 2021. Recently, Cruise took time to sing the praises of Lady Gaga, whose new song on the soundtrack "Hold My Hand" he said is "the heartbeat of our film."

Inside 'Top Gun: Maverick's' San Diego Premiere Spectacle ... (Hollywood Reporter)

Tom Cruise landed a helicopter on aircraft carrier USS Midway on Wednesday to kick off the film's world premiere.

“That Goose thing, being the ultimate wingman that Anthony [Edwards] did so well — he and Tom, you can just tell they’re having a blast in that first one,” said Teller. “I think if anything, Tom really wanted the actors to feel comfortable; they got cast for a reason and trust your instinct — and if your instinct was wrong, Tom would let you know. “We probably all had four or five layers of different types of oils on us to really make sure the muscles popped,” Ellis joked. “When you have Maverick training you how to fly and that enthusiasm, it really rubs off on you.” The producer also confirmed Cruise really is behind the dash in all of those action scenes (“Every time you see him flying, that’s him in that jet”) and said that no stunt was deemed too big for the star: “You can’t pull Tom Cruise back. “It was a very emotional day — you saw Maverick and Iceman back on screen again after 36 years.” The over-the-top move kicked off a premiere spectacle, with jet flyovers, uniformed servicemen and a star-studded cast to the long-awaited sequel.
