Brind'Amour: 'Obvious' Bruins are targeting Hurricanes goaltenders (TSN)

Starting in place of the injured Frederik Andersen, Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta was forced to leave Wednesday's 5-2 Game 2 win in the first period after ...

But one was legal, one was not, if you really want to break it down.” The goaltender responded with a jab of his stick, then his own shove as the play was whistled dead before Marchand fired back by swinging his stick and striking Kochetkov in the right arm. “I don't think there was any intent there at all.”

Bruins Lacking Discipline & Finish in Game 2 Loss to the Hurricanes (The Hockey Writers)

While the Boston Bruins started to put together some good hockey at the end of the third period, it was too little too late.

The series heads back to Boston for Game 3 on Friday, and the Bruins need to clean up their act. But the blame is not on him for the performance of the rest of the team and he is only one player participating in the ultimate team sport. The Bruins lost their cool, and it showed in the on ice, as well as in the final score. Erik Haula was fantastic in the faceoff circle, and Patrice Bergeron continues to show that age is just a number. Their first goal of the game came off of the Bruins’ failure to clear the zone, giving them extra opportunities to get pucks on net, and their second goal came off of a net-front battle that they won. He can’t play defense, and he can’t help the team in the neutral zone. In fact, if the team plays in front of him the same way they’ve played in front of Ullmark, I’m sure they’ll lose Game 3 as well. They are taking advantage of their chances, while the Bruins have failed to do so during this series so far, and that’s why they are 2-0 in the series right now. The Bruins were facing off against the Hurricanes’ third-string goaltender for most of the game, something that should have been able to take advantage of. Now, the Hurricanes have not been saints and, as always, there are some questionable decisions by the referees, but you cannot deny that the Bruins took several bad penalties in Game 2. Carolina, on the other hand, has been able to take advantage of the Bruins’ challenges of clearing the puck, and have been winning the net front battles and scoring off of those battles. Playing gets tough in the playoffs, and guys need to take advantage of every opportunity given to them because chances are, they might not get another one.

Haggs: Boston Bruins In Big, Bad Trouble Vs. Carolina Hurricanes ... (Boston Hockey Now)

Certainly, there won't be any seismic damage done in the series until the home team loses on their own ice, but the Bruins have looked a step slow and unable to ...

Worse still, the Boston Bruins look like they’ve lost defenseman Hampus Lindholm after he was left dazed and confused by a punishing Andrei Svechnikov hit behind the Boston net in the second period of the loss. And the Bruins didn’t exactly make Svechnikov pay for taking a vicious, albeit clean, run at the Boston Bruins D-man while losing enough discipline to the point where the Hurricanes finished with nine power plays in the game. The Boston Bruins are in big and bad trouble in their series against the Carolina Hurricanes.

BOSTON (CBS) — The Bruins are not only dealing with an 0-2 series hole to the Carolina Hurricanes, but they'll likely have to live life without defenseman ...

“It looked high to me,” said Cassidy. “It was on time but it looked high. He was ruled out a short time later with an upper-body injury, and head coach Bruce Cassidy gave a pretty grim update on Lindholm after the loss. He went down in a heap and struggled to get up.READ MORE:

Carolina Hurricanes Boston Bruins Pyotr Kochetkov (Canes Country)

The Hurricanes, with rookie netminder Pyotr Kochetkov in net for most of the night, grabbed a 2-0 series lead Wednesday.

It was a rough, physical game with a few injuries to speak of, but the Canes are traveling to Boston undefeated thus far. There was a moment of scare as Patrice Bergeron knocked in his second of the night to make it 4-2. For the first time in a long time, the man-advantage looked good and was able to produce. “I had full confidence that he was going to clutch that out like he had been doing at the end of the season,” said Sebastian Aho. “Just a great goalie. From that point forward, seemingly everyone was always on a power play throughout the whole period. DeAngelo ended the game with three assists, continuing to prove that he fits like a glove on this Carolina squad. The guys responded with the way they played in front of him, but he responded with the way he played. It was Aho who further stretched the lead, with a tip-in from a DeAngelo shot that we all expect. The first period was a perfect illustration of playoff hockey. After Antti Raanta suffered an injury following a David Pastrnak collision, Pyotr Kochetkov was the only option left to head between the pipes. Svech has gotten so much better at doing it within the way you are supposed to do it in the last year or year and a half.” But one was legal and one was not, if you really want to break it down.

Hurricanes win game two after Bruins lose their discipline (Cardiac Cane)

The Carolina Hurricanes were able to capitalize in game two after the Boston Bruins lost their discipline. A tough game, but Canes lead the series 2-0.

Between the two of them, they really helped put the Canes in a position where they could command the game and help see this game through. Aho with a powerplay goal and a tip, Nino with the empty netter in addition to his powerplay goal. With his two assists on the first two goals, Slavin became the Hurricanes/Whalers’ all-time leading scorer among defensemen in the postseason. In a game where the Carolina Hurricanes were clearly the better team in terms of both sportsmanship and whistle to whistle play, they claim the victory in game two by a score of 5-2. Andrei Svechnikov laid a mammoth hit on Hampus Lindholm. A particularly clean hit going through the body with no head contact, staying on the ice throughout the hit, and planting his shoulder right into the chest of the Swedish defenseman that the Bruins picked up at the trade deadline. Starting with the hit on Antti Raanta that would see him knocked out of the game.

That doesn’t figure to change as the Hurricanes look to continue treading that “fine line” in Boston. “It helps when you get on the score sheet but at the end of the day it’s a team game. We’re going to go to the power play and try to capitalize there. DeAngelo assisted on the two power-play scores and had three assists for the night. We’re trying to play in between the whistles. “We’re not going to be pushed around.”
