Vivien Epstein decides to suddenly start a new life in London after a lover goes there from her hometown of Manchester. Soon she is entangled in a network ...
He tells Vivien to forget about Jack and to take a train back to Manchester the next day; her father will be waiting at the station. Vivien falls to the ground in the ruckus and is pulled to safety by Stevie, whom she has just met at the salon where she has taken a job. David decides to check in with Sol to see if Vivien is in London. He tells Liza that Vivien is safe in London with a friend and will return home soon. They need Vivien to visit the hospital and check in on him—it would be suspicious if any of them asked after Jack. Jack’s not at the hospital, and Vivien can’t find any information about him there. The next day at the salon, Stevie tries to give Vivien a leaflet and convince her to join a campaign to change the law so that the NSM can be prosecuted for hate speech, but she demurs. She is startled to see Jack standing next to Jordan, and calls to him. They’re taking her to meet “Peter.” They drop her in a train yard and then drive off. Vivien shows up at the shop on Ridley Road where Jack was meant to deliver suits and asks after him. First, she finds lodging with a Christian woman named Nettie, taking Roza’s advice to use the surname Evans. Nettie is a regular attender of local action meetings where people complain about the changing neighborhood and rising costs—that’s why Nettie has to take in Vivien, for extra income. Don’t let anyone know you’re Jewish, she advises; use the last name Evans. Vivien is a hairdresser, so she can find work at a salon in London to pay the bills. Vivien wants to openly admit to the relationship, but Jack moves on—they cannot be together.

Aunt Rosa is pretending she has no idea where Vivian is even though she gave her the idea to run away to find Peter/Jack. Jeremy’s family is angry about the clearly broken engagement. Peter is taken to the hospital but the Jewish leaders lose contact with him. Vivian thinks she’s getting kidnapped but they tell her she’s going to find out about “Peter”. They drop her in an empty railyard and she sees Jack hiding. At the same time, a fight breaks out between the fascists and antifascists, knocking Vivian to the ground. He’s also biracial, but Vivian is mostly paying attention to the fact that while he’s nice, he’s not Jack, who she still needs to find. Vivian Epstein is a young Jewish woman who lives with her parents and aunt in Manchester. She’s engaged to be married to Jeremy, but she’s not happy about the arrangement. Stevie manages to see Vivian in the melee and they escape. Vivian finds the address where Jack is supposed to be for “business” but a nerdy guy with glasses answers the door and says Jack’s not around. Armed with a new wardrobe to win Jack back, Vivian ends up in Trafalgar Square. Colin Jordan, the real-life leader of the National Socialist Movement (played by Rory Kinnear), is yelling about deporting every single Jewish person from the UK. There are also far right meetings interspersed with the rally. The next morning, Vivian finds out Jack is headed to London, supposedly on tailoring business errands. He also claims Jack has a million girlfriends, and “apologetically” tells Vivian to move on. The episode starts with a blonde woman and a young boy who is her son (or stepson) in a very nice stately home.
